Why didn't BioWare just remove the character-customisation completely?

- I'm having a hard time understanding what the purpose of the character-customisation system is, considering it flat-out sucks.

The developing team basically said "**** it" and casually strolled over fixing the obviously flawed design, leaving us with the exact, same old crap from the original Mass Effect that no one liked.

It doesn't make sense that the default (male) Shepard has a hairstyle, facial hair, skin and what have you, that at least look decent but the custom Shepards don't have access to even the same hairstyle! Even Kaidan Alenko's hair looked great but we still can't use it - that's BS. Mostly, custom Shepards look like deflated baby-dolls with manufactured hair-weaves. The male buzz-cut, for example, reminds me of a sheep's wool.

So, why not just take the character-customisation system out completely if the developing team is going to be lazy with it and give us basically a ******-poor excuse for customisation. Hell, UFC Undisputed 2009 (a fighting game that has SUB-PAR GRAPHICS with little emphasis on customisation) blows Mass Effect 2 out of the water in that regard!

I have a difficult time believing that one of the most frequents complaints about the first Mass Effect WASN'T the crappy character-customisation system, as well.

Even if it sucks, why remove it?

Having something optional and bad is better than not having it at all.

- Well, there's no point in having it if they aren't going to improve on it (even minisculely) with each new game in the series.

Yes, they should of removed something you didn't like for the sake of the other people that did.

That logic is infallible.

The rage displayed in that post is quite epic indeed.

Because the OP is a moron. Also, this is an anwser to half of the toppics this forum has. Not happy with it, don't buy/play the game.

It's a limitation of the technology they use.

It's not like "hair styles" are modeled separately for characters like Kaiden or Sheploo. The character's head is a single model. This allows them to use higher resolution textures because if they were to do so with the generated characters you would have a good chance of having horribly distorted skin textures on the face and what not.

It would have been nice if they included a few more hair styles and what not, but it's honestly not the end of the world. I kind of liked the way my Shepard looked in ME1.

Ok then let make you understand why then

the reason the standard shepard looks more detailed is because they actually scanned an actors face into it. Thats why when you go to make a custom shepard your character looks like a NPC, unless you spend good ample time making him look more than that.

Bit much to say nobody liked it.  I didnt like it, but i'm sure there were some who did.  imagine the uproar if they decided to do away with it, especially for all of those that would have been hoping to use their custom characters from ME1.

Why wear underpants anyway? You'll just end up putting pants on over them.

Cerbin aep Dol Blathanna agrees with it both handily, both legly and with his nose.

I liked it. I found the customization in the first game just enough to make a character that looked like me. (Well, maybe a more bad a** version of me, and considering how bad a** i am that is hard)

I think my Shepard's look pretty good... I hate the default Shepard and making my own gives me loads more immersion ingame. I would love to have a different voice too, because the voice doesn't fit my black shepard :D

I thought the character creator was pretty good to be honest. Mass Effect wouldn't have the same appeal to me if they got rid of it.

Female sheps can look good, I never tried to make a custom guy shep. I don't really see a problem... it's not the best but it's not terrible.

No, you're the ****** here. Op complains about something that could be better and you spout LOL DON"T BUY THE GAME IF YOU DON'T LIKE THIS ONE ASPECT.  If Bioware hadn't listened to criticism in the first game we'd still all be driving the bouncy castle over planets that all looked the same.

I like the Character Customization system. I really like the signature handlebar moustache of my main Shep.
