Why didn't BioWare just remove the character-customisation completely?

Or just flame away - if that's the best you can do...
I like this feature for letting me make my Shep exactly I'd like him/her to look like. Even if it takes hours to do that.

Actually I have plenty of patience for these sorts of things (my characters in DA, Fallout 3 and Oblivion confirm this....not that you can see them
I didn't like the ME1 character creator as you could never imo get a really good idea what your character would look like in game. I'm not flaming BW just giving a bit of feedback. Ended up using the defualt male-shep and will do so for ME2.
PS you shut up!

Thoughtful, Bioware are pleasing both sides of the fence, if you don't like it you can just choose default Shepard, if you do like it, customise away..

- It has little to do with either patience or 'skills' (or both). It has everything to do with the fact that the system flat-out sucks. The options are limited, all the hairstyles are ugly, the facial hair looks like it was slapped on from Microsoft Paint, and the colours are generic.
To suggest that you can spend 'hours' on Mass Effect's character-customisation system is a difficult thought at best... you spend more than two hours tweaking a handful of sliders that have ******-poor variety?
Well, at least you (and others apparently) are happy with the customisation system. However I still feel that it needs vast improvements and a huge re-vamping... and I think we could all agree to that.

Also, anyone who keeps bringing up how the engine is the limitation, check out this link, it's of a game called APB that also uses the UE3 engine, same as Mass Effect. disclaimer- I'm in no way asking for this games level of customization, simply pointing out it's not a limitation of the engine...

I do recognize how limited it is though, and hope Bioware will expand on this system in later games, if not in the Mass Effect series itself. I will never understand however why any game developpers never bother putting more than a handful hairstyles in a game. As a modder with 10 years of experience, I can tell its not exactly long to create these things. Scaleable body proportions is very difficulty to implement, but a few hair style models is all too easy.

Being genetically restructured with additional cybernetic/mechanical insides makes the "dead people" argument kinda lame, lol

Also the engine doesn`t limit the number of different hairstyles or beards. As it was said before, other games have better cc`s and Mass Effect didn`t even take the tiniest things out of things we had years ago in fighting games like King of Fighters. Instead of putting a nice big color palette like in Sims we need to click us threw the whole bar. Are these minor things? Yes they are but just these things are something to bother about. If it`s such a minor thing, it should be one of the first things that are changed in a sequel.
In ME2 the characters look better, I wouldn`t deny it but still I can`t see how my FemShep should look as good as I want her to look.

Bioware, place tell me I'll be allowed to rotate around Shepard's face when I start ME2.

Personally, I don't mind that Bioware didn't change anything. The only downside for me is I find it incredibly hard to make a FemShep I'm happy with, and I think the long neck all FemSheps have is partly to do with it.

I like the way my Shepard looks, sure the CC could use more options but I think its good regardless.

Anyway, what they didn't fix for ME2, they may fix for ME3. It is (for now, at least) an ongoing process. Which is cool! I would have liked them to improve on the character customization, but hey, I can live with it. I still prefer my custom Shepards over the defaults. Anyway, there's doubtless going to be a topic by the devs to post critique/suggestions for ME3, so you can voice your issues there when the time comes.
