Elven mage stories mixed up, and a couple other oddities

I started the game as an elven mage, which makes me Dalish.  Yet several conversations act as if I'm a mage from the Ostwick Circle.  The first such erroneous story element happened right at the beginning, when Cassandra described Solas as an apostate, "unlike you".  There were at least three other conversations (thus far) which erroneously treated my Dalish character as a former Circle mage.

I also noticed a couple conversations where two voice-acted lines played at the same time.  The most recent one was by Cullen after finishing the mission involving Alexius.  The two lines had common elements, so were perhaps meant to be different lines used to fit the exact circumstances of the mission ending.

The last oddity I found was quite bizarre.  I had taken a few staff shots at a very distant ram in the Hinterlands - not enough to kill it, and it disappeared over a small hill.  When I closed the distance, a rage demon came shambling back over that same hill.  When I killed it and looted the demon remains it left behind, they contained ram leather (plus another item).  Did the ram get pissed off at being attacked and become inhabited by a demon?  There were no rifts anywhere nearby.

There are known bugs with the races. Only way to fix them is to restart the game. And demons do wander on their own, but not in the hinterlands. You may have encountered Lord Woolsley, but I'm not sure if he appears prior to his quest.

I noticed similar issues, in conversation choices, and in options on the war table that referred to "family" nobility squabbles.

Then, the cherry on top of the sundae-when i got to specialization quests, the experts sent were...

Wait for it...

ROGUES.

Not mages at all, so at this point i've abandoned that game, which was 60 hrs+, and have started a different character.

Great game for story, art, music, character-what the hell is going on with the simple underlying technical structure?  How does it get this borked and not get caught before release?

There is a bug that causes the game to think you are a human female rogue regardless of the race/background/class you pick. The workaround is to switch back and forth between male and female a few times at the start of character creation. That causes the game to recognise your character's background properly.

Dont see the issue here. Mage assassin? Who wouldnt want that? :P

Anyhow, I think that none of this happened due to no outside POV, something i think that should be done. Say, in August, they bring in 20-30 or so new testers to play the game. If they actually do this, then their QA is just entirely incompetent.

The worst thing about this bug is that you can`t wear race restricted armor.  I just found an armor that could only be worn by elves, which of course I couldn`t wear even though I am an elf. Only decent armor for ages and I dont want to restart my 50+ hours playthrough just because of this simple bug. If there would only be a way to fix this without restarting.

Mm.. that does sound buggy and I'm not quite sure what to recommend. I suppose with all the variables, it's unsurprising that there have been similar complaints i.e. voice, gender, etc. It shouldn't happen and it's frustrating, so I hope Bioware addresses this in a patch soon.

There were no rifts anywhere nearby.

.... but then stuff like this makes it awesome.

I had heard there was a gender bug, but not the relation to it in the races.  Ah well.

Just wish I'd known that before I got 60 hours into my first playthrough...

I'm rolling a male human mage to cleanse my palate... and I was hyperfixated on all the race/gender relevant flags  in the intro. lol.

We'll see how long it takes befoer I decide to go back to my classic starter, but I knew I wanted to try both male and female mages for the different romances anyway.  *shrug*

Just such a stupid glitchy thing to have undercut a massively beautiful game.

I got to the specialization part, and it's definitely bugged.  But in my case, at least, not simply.

At first pass, I picked the specialization mission at the war table, and Leliana was the only option to handle it.  As soon as that was done, however, it showed up on the map again.  I picked it again, and this time Josephine was the only choice.  After leaving the table, the cutscene of specialists entering started playing, and the game crashed.  I reloaded, did the same thing again (this time it was Josephine first then Leliana), and the game crashed again.

Guessing the crash was related to doubling up on that mission, I did only one.  Selecting the mission randomly chose either Leliana or Josephine to complete it.  I went with Leliana to start with, then left the war room.  That resulted in rogue specialists appearing.  Reloading, I selected and cancelled the mission until Josephine was chosen, and that resulted in mage specialists showing up.

So it's a pretty serious bug, but apparently has a workaround.  It will be interesting to see after I've completed the specialization tasks whether or not the duplicate mission remains on the war table, and if so, what happens when I complete it.
