Hey folks,

 

I'm running into a weird issue here, I was doing perfectly fine on normal difficulty until I did the Val Royeaux mission where you find out that the Lord Seeker is a giant douche-bag (although I loved his introduction...that punch ^^). After that mission I went to recruit Blackwall, the little skirmish with bandits had one archer put a single attack on my main, 3/4 health gone...okay checked their level and they're level eights and I'm seven, weird. Moving on I went to Valammar, every fight in there has been hell and now I'm stuck on the vault area with the Hurlock fight. It's kinking my a** and I'm not sure what the heck is going on, my party used six potions within ten-twenty seconds.

 

Anyone else experiencing this issue? I should also mention that I re-specced my main from a two-handed to sword and shield (though the gear is still the same).

Recheck that the difficulty hasnt been changed?

If not...

Go craft and upgrade your gear.

Have you got a mage in your party using barrier?

 

I didn't for a brief time and was getting absolutely pulverized every fight. I added a mage using barrier back into the party and everything is going ok again.

I do actually, just switched to Vivienne and changed her tactics/skills. I'm currently off to make sure my equipment is fully upgraded, but like I said the damage to health jumped so I'm not sure what happened.

I've found that enemy AI sometimes likes to gang up on party members no matter how much aggro my warriors throw out. Despair Demons especially seem to do this. When it happens it's fairly obvious, my guys go down really quick. If that's what is happening the only counter I know of is to back off, draw them out, and use your rogue as a medic constantly stealthing to get teammates back up.

 

Also make sure to change the settings on Stamina/Mana reserve. Unlocking that other half of their reserve has profound effects.

Well here's my update before I try and get some sleep: I'm not entirely sure what happened, but that weird difficulty jump only occurred inside Valammar. Once I finally managed to clear it, which I will not lie was a pain in the a**, the difficulty spike went away. I went outside and fought random spawns for at least the next hour to make sure, so now I'm confident that the difficulty spike only occurred while I was in Valammar, and only with the Hurlocks. If anyone else has this issue as well please post it either here or in a new forum post, I'd like to see if maybe I just got the short end of the straw on that glitch.

Your level is most likely too low. Valammar has high level enemies.

Actually mate, as I stated above my level was seven and the Carta and Hurlocks were eight. The Carta dealt normal damage and went down normally, the Hurlock damage was insane and they took far longer to go down, three arrows from a Hurlock archer would kill anyone in my party (two for the mage). I honestly think it was some kind of bug, for example I dealt roughly 1200-2300 damage with Varric's Full Draw against a Carta, and 300-500 against a Hurlock (non-alpha or berserker).

Dude. Idk. But wait till u get to hissing waste in the venatori ruins. Hurlock archers are taking my lvl 16 tanks " cass and blackwell" down with 3 or 4 arrows. They both have like 55 constitution also. Im on nightmare but still. Its ridiculous. I really starting to think its a bug or something. My armors at 200 and hp at 1000 how can 4 arrows. Bring me down. Cass and black used to be able to take massive amounts of damage.
