DAI seemed to have pretty good buzz to me right before release but the rather messy state of the game seems to have really affected it. Even with DA2 I didnt see the volume of "refund" posts on BSN.

I think at this point there are legitimate concerns about the future viability of the brand and Bioware Edmonton.

First big game? You're 14 years too late if you're talking about baulders gate.

DAI does seem to be selling well though.

By big I meant expansive or open world.

I don't really think you can gauge the success of a game by following it's online forum community. I was an active member of Skyrim's online community, and let me tell you, in the weeks after release you would have thought Skrim was one of the worst Elder Scrolls games ever released and was on it's way to certain failure. Almost every major topic on the forum were people ranting about how dumbed down it was, how it wasn't Morrowind, how buggy it was, etc. People were also demanding refunds with a fair bit of frequency.

Obviously, all that meant nothing in terms of the game's overall success. I think we'll just have to wait and see before judging DA:I based on forum postings.

Based on what exactly? 20/30 threads saying people want a refund. I'm sure bioware are quivering in their boots.

Found this on Eurogamer:

"Sales of BioWare's role-player were on par with 2011's Dragon Age 2, but it's worth remembering that UK numbers company Chart-Track doesn't count digital sales, of which PC copies through Origin will make up a decent amount."

Pretty sure that Denuvo made some people buy the game. And made some people not buy the game. But the question is how many bough vs how many refused.

Ugh! So much innumeracy in this thread. What percentage of sales for DA:2 were digital downloads? How about DA:I? Which percentage will be higher?

Also, comparing RPG sales to sales of major sorts games and FPS?!

True, true. It had a solid open week, I did forget about that.

Willie, not everyone possesses the inclination toward learning the nuances of the market like you and I have done, nor do I blame them.

Sales on par with DA2 physically as of launch week are what I expected. The test will be whether DAI nosedives as it did and what sort of digital numbers it's pulling.

Something else to consider for those fretting over "5th place" -- November is the hardest month to place in. This is peak holidays. DA2 was released in March.

That might be an artifact of refunds being easier to get for DAI.

The game should be should be selling better than most on PC, due to its unbreakable Denuvo anti-tampering software.

For reference, 2 out of the 3 other games using Denuvo are completely uncracked long after their release. I believe FIFA 15 remains uncracked after almost 2 months. Although I believe cracking is still inevitable, gaining 1-2 months of piracy free launch should boost sales immensely.

Ha, first, you can't judge how well a game is doing based on the BSN.  Official forums are always the whiniest bunch of people with the loudest complaints.  If you looked at the WoW forums to judge whether it was doing well, you'd think the game was the biggest piece of crap ever.  Skyrim was mentioned as another example.  As I understand it, Origins and all three Mass Effect games had tons of negative posts on the BSN when they first released as well.

Hell I think the BSN is actually taking this pretty positively, all things considered.  Maybe there's more hate in the Spoiler Scuttlebutt, but here it's very tame.

Not to mention in other places, the game is being received VERY well.  On Reddit, all I've seen is how amazing the game is.  Even some of the more wary subreddits are basically praising the game for being really good.

What I mean is that it is a HIGHLY successful MMO.  Though I do think it's also an amazing game (one I haven't played in years, which sucks because apparently Warlords of Draenor is the best expansion to date, but you wouldn't know that from the official forums).

Indeed! Hah! that's why forums are mostly just good as a means of entertaining you while having a pause on the game for a while. That Skyrim-game was kinda successfull, wasn't it ? ^^

i hope it is selling well.

but im surprise a remake of GTA V on the PS4 is actually selling better than this game on Amazon.

GTA V is a great game but it is a remake of a barely an year old game so i really don't see why it should be selling better.

Feel kind of sad for Bioware.

Why are you suprised? weren't you the one saying "leave the past in the past"? The Dragon Age IP was firstly created as a PC tactical RPG game, and now due to consoles and trying to catter to the masses, it's trying to become something more to the liking of the masses.

Apparently tactical rpgs are a thing of the past, and so, a game that started as such, and retains the same name, shouldn't outsell a GTA, a Fifa, a BF, a COD or an AC. Triple A games for the masses ;)

I don't think it's selling really bad

I mean, FIFA, CoD, GTA... To oversell these is impossibly difficult for an RPG game

This gen it seems everything is a secret. We dont know any sales numbers NPDs have turned classified. we dont even know console sales. But im guessing the game must have hit 1 million mark by now at the min.
