Hello

I haven't finished the game yet, so please don't spoil anything significant! I just want to discuss Bull calling the Inquisitor "kadan".

Bull says that "kadan" means "my heart". As most of you are probably aware, Sten in Origins calls the warden kadan if you have enough approval rating with him.

Does that mean Sten had romantic feelings for the warden?

Bull does mention that in typical Qunari relationships, you don't have sex. While Bull isn't the typical Qunari, Sten definitely is. Could he have seen warden as a romantic interest, in the way the Qun dictates?

I haven't read any novels etc. All my knowledge about lore and so on, comes straight from the game, and I apologise if I have missed out on something obvious. I would just like to hear what others think!

(Not sure if this belongs in the DAI forum or Origins forum, but since it contained spoilers for DAI, I figured the post should belong here)

Kadan: Term for something one values highly.  Or sometimes the center of the chest. literally means, "where the heart lies."

Does not require romance.

"Kadan" is their all-purpose word for "person I care about in some way and hope doesn't die in a fire."

Also in the comic "Those who speak", Sten called Alistair Kadan too.

Wasn't that obvious? I thought it was pretty clear that Sten had romantic feelings towards the Warden, the strong internal conflict and crisis of faith between his feelings towards the Warden and his devotion to the Qun is what made Sten such a great and relatable character.

Shale as well, multiple times.

  • Shale: I have a question of religion, Qunari.
  • Sten: For you, kadan, I will answer.
  • Shale: I have heard an interesting tale of the Qunari.
  • Sten: Speak, kadan.
  • Shale: I wish to say that it has been pleasant fighting at the Qunari's side.
  • Sten: I feel the same. You are a remarkable construct, kadan. A warrior to be feared.

It wasn't obvious to me at the time, but looking back, it kind of is! I always assumed it was pure admiration from him though, with no romantic feelings, but recently I have been looking back and thinking twice. I'd like to believe that in "my" story anyway, it is the truth that he did have romantic feelings, as far as the rules of the Qun goes anyway :D
