How to pick skills on companions when mostly using AI in combat?

This might have been better placeed in another sub-forum but since it is specifically about the companions I thought this might be best.

 

I play on hard and due to some personal issues with the tactics mode I tend to mostly play just my own character and pause as needed to give me time to reflect. I do switch memebers or go to tactics mode when needed but especially tactics mode is rarely needed (so far).

 

Given the limitation with the AI I feel that I should adapt the skill choices so that I pick what the AI can deal with. However I'm unsure how to best go about this. Looking for ideas. For instance picking fade step seems to be a skill that the AI would not use well.

 

Running with a pretty static group of mage, Cas, Varric and Vivienne. Williing to change Vivienne if AI is not good with her KE skills.

 

How do others in my situation reason when picking skills for party members when not micro managing them?

Well i found varrics specialization tree all but useless if you go with him as an archer.

I can see that being the case. It does look a loot like a skill tree where you need to mico manage as the AI will not be able to use it to its full potential.

I'm thinking that the best option is probably to go with pure offence and passives and stay away from things like CC and things where you need to properly set up the attack to make it usefull. Will then focus on those skills on my mage.

Pretty much. Also cole i respecced him for archer assassin as with daggers he is useless. For blackwall do not make him use line in the sand as he always wastes it so turn that of in tactics.

 

Viviane does not use her knight enchanter tree properly sometimes. Solas as rift mage works alright on AI.
