Ok so I am playing a Mage currently and am loving how it is. I always make future playthroughs in my head though and I have one for a Templar specialization. I am very certain of my race choice but I am wondering if a two-handed Templar spec is viable. I am not a big fan of Reaver, I just never liked it since way back in Origins. I have looked at the tree and I didn't see any shield specific abilities or anything like that.

From what I understand (from wiki, not sure about actual gameplay), Templar is a more supportive role, so it could go either way.

 

Champion is the Tank Spec, and Reaver is all DPS.

I think Templar can go either way.  I am doing a Templar run and was thinking of two-hander dps for it but just respec'd into tank sword and shield.  With battlemaster and two-hander trees you should be fine dishing out damage.

2H Templar is powerful DPS wise if you use combo wisely.

Keyword: spamming Spell Purge as much as possible

The con is that it's ineffective against non-demon bosses.
