The Warden, The Champion, The Inquisitor... even The Marquis of Serault. In what order do you favour your custom protagonists in the Dragon Age series?

 

I haven't yet played Inquisition yet (it's top of the Christmas wishlist), but for the rest: Marquis >= Warden > Hawke. I know most favour their Warden the most, and while I still like mine, I've realized how ultimately depressing my Surana is, especially with headcanon taken into account... very much the "fight for a better world, but sacrifice his own happiness" type. Jeralde de Serault has gone through his own tribulations, but he's pulled through just fine with his own (admittedly smaller scale) goals accomplished and having consistently happy endings. As for Hawke... well, I think he and Merrill make a cute couple, but aside from some cool moments and good friendships, he seems like someone a lot more boring that Varric made him out to be.

Hawke-> Inquisitor-> Warden = Marquis.

 

Sarcastic Hawke was fun. Inquisitor is a little bland, the warden didn't have much personality outside of head canon.

I liked all of them, but I fell in love with my Lavellan far more than any other character to date. Don't get me wrong, I'm fond of my Amell and Surana as well as Hawke, but the ones from Origins are less characters and more blank slates. That works in a game, and I won't knock that, but from a purely character perspective I found myself rallying around my Inquisitor more.

I'll never forget the quest where Hawke hands over the sack of bones to Ser Thrask and says "Recognize your mage?".

My Hawke and my Inquisitor are both actual characters in their own right while in DAO I felt much more like I was just a mannequin surrounded by far more interesting characters.

As a character Hawke was better then the Inquisitor. Unfortunetly the Warden has no personality and was a pretty bland character.

even though i like DA:O better then DA2. DA2 had the better main character as hawke was actually a character

For me, Warden > Hawke=Inquisitor.

 

Warden felt much more like a character I was crafting and filling out personality traits myself, and thus...I got more attached. She felt much more like my own personal created character to me rather than somebody I was just puppeteering. I could get much more into her head.

 

My sarcastic Hawke was entertaining, though there wasn't really any of that involvement I felt with my Warden. He made the transition to NPC pretty seamlessly for me, and I'm not sure if that's a good thing.

 

I put my Inquisitor on equal standing to Hawke at the moment, because I haven't finished the game yet. Enjoying her so far though, I feel like you can get a bit more upfront personality this time while actually still feeling like they're sort of your character again.

You got more OP equipment, runes and abilities in DA:O making my warden almost God like. The last 2 dragon age games has a nerf on equipment, runes and abilities making hawk and the Inquisitor weak compared to the warden.

It's a toss-up between Hawke and the Inquisitor, with the Warden coming in last. Love the Warden and all, but a plank's a plank. The Inquisitor kinda brings back some of that, but at the same time, you can occasionally squeeze a little personality out of the character which I found to be pretty entertaining.

Hawke all the way. Inquisition made me realize how good Hawke works as a character, because even if I wasn't controlling her, she still sounded like my Hawke from DA2. The Inquisitor comes in second, although the character is a bit bland, which does make it easier to insert headcannon. The Warden wins in that regard, if you want to form your own character, the Warden is there for you. But I like personality from my characters and that's why it is:

 

Hawke> Inquisitor> Warden.

I think the fact that you often get those expressive dialogue wheels gives inquisitor far more personality than Hawke. Sarcastic Hawke was pretty unfunny and lame to me. I've had a lot of moments where my Hansard Trevelyan surprised me by his range of acting performance (voice 1) and how heartwarming his conversations can be with squad members.

When you pursue Cassandra's romance there's a point early on when she complements you, and you can go "You're flattering me!?" and once she starts trying to dodge the fact you start laughing at her. That moment alone was almost enough to win me over.

Hawke would have been a great protagonist in an action\adventure game, I think. Not so much in an rpg, since he is basically a character someone else has made for you.

I almost put Shepard above the Warden lolol I was never, ever attached to any of my Wardens. They felt so incredibly lifeless.

Hawke is the best voice acted in my opinion (and looks the best in the Champion armors) but I love the race options for the Inquisitor and their story/role really interests me. I love the Warden and their backstories but I hate that there's no proper voice for them.
