Quite a few times now I have had the option to respond to my followers on the field but I don't know how. It comes up with a faded out dialogue wheel but I have no idea how to actually select the options. I have tried every button on my controller ugh.
How do you actually respond? I don't wanna miss any more.
I play on Xbox One.
I got this same issue when playing on PC with 360 controller. I've missed quite a few conversations already. 
Click the right stick to open the options. I think it's bugged though, a few wouldn't work for me.

Seems like its bugged for me then. I remember it opening one dialogue but after that it stopped working.
I think it has only worked for me once, but I can think of multiple occasions were it hasn't worked. It's quite frustrating, it should have been a great feature.
Add it to the list. I have encountered so many annoying bugs,
Getting stuck in conversations, getting stuck on the spot, being unable to tab between companions... there were more.
I don't know whether it has been mentioned before, but I have had glitches where the radial menu won't work, meaning I can't drink potions during battle.
Most of these are fixed with a save/restart. But its still annoying.
