What underwear? You can't be shirtless in this game, ot at least my male human mage can't..
Exactly. You remove your armor, and your character is wearing the casual outfit. Which is why I think its more long underwear then pjs. ![]()

I remember being told a while back in life how much beige is a no-no. Its a boring, unpopular color. ![]()
At least if it was a olive or forest green, I'd feel a bit more like an actual Dalish Elf.
I think the formal outfit is approriate...it's supposed to be military formal. I think since the herald isnt exactly a king or queen, they wont look too extravagant, however the inquisitor should at least wear their armor in skyhold ....every npc wears their default armor outfit yet the inquistor does not lol
I think they should have dedicated a little time in that extra year to make race specific casual outfits. Again...that outfit does not make me look like a Dalish. Not at all.
But being the only person in Skyhold not wearing armor is necessary! How else will the assassins find me? In fact, this way they could easily snipe me from a league away. ![]()
I've said it before, I'll say it again: the Inquisitor should be ready for another Haven scenario.
What was I thinking?
More than 1 drab outfit.

Am I the only one who wanted to see the NPCs casual like me? I mean I get that we need to be prepared like Haven, (I really like that my character would 'learn' that and have that mentioned in banter as I look at my map) so I like the idea of auto armor in the war room, but I'm at 'home' I don't want to wear armor running around my castle. but it was irritating that I was casual and no one else was. It made me want to change my outfit more, when I didn't really mind what they had me in. (Mind I was a human female which I've just discovered is one of the only ones to look normal in it
)

Some of the non-official characters like Solas, Sera and Varric do wear casual clothes. But that's just it. They are unofficial members of the Inquisition, while you're the bonefide leader. I'm sure there was a place for casual clothing, especially when entering your living quarters, the tavern, etc, but any show of leadership/discipline/force should have been made in armor.
It also falls to what kind of leader your character would be. Some would be more social people people with a down to earth. Others would take their role as the Herald of Andraste to heart and never be caught wearing casual wear. I don't ever remember seeing the pope in jeans. Meanwhile others may approach it with the gusto of a no-nonsense military leader.
I agree with some of the previous opinions. Allowing us to pick our Skyhold outfit would be best.
This has grown into the issue that bothers me most. In every cutscene that takes place in Skyhold except in my personal quarters I'm in serious danger of being mentally kicked out of the story because the Inquisitor is horribly underdressed in comparison to everyone else. This needs to be changed!
OP is correct. ME games provided casual attire options. This should have been added to DAI.
For my part, I think it looks acceptable on human males, quite good on elven females, and unspeakably bad on male qunari.
So, there are two places where non-armor is worn: The pajamas in Skyhold, and the red military outfit in the Winter Palace.
Here are my suggestions:
Winter Palace Outfit
Before leaving for the ball, you are given a small dialogue/cutscene where your three advisors speak to you about what to wear. Your dialogue wheel would have a few options, and when you pick one, you would "try it on" (so you can see it in action), with your advisors stating what they think of it. If you like it, you select "This one will do." If not, select "[Back]" and choose again.
I would include the outfits from both genders for this selection. My ideal choices would be:
* Gender-neutral military-style uniform (as already seen)
* Orlesian men's wear
* Ferelden men's wear
* Orlesian women's wear
* Ferelden women's wear
Skyhold Outfit
Have a dresser in your room that you can use to set your outfit. Have a few default outfits, and let others be found or bought or crafted. (This has the added bonus of making your bedroom have a function). In fact, whichever outfit you pick for the ball should unlock as an option for your "walking around" clothes.
Include some racially- and regionally-related items. Dwarven clothes, Elvish clothes, Ferelden clothes, etc.

Very true. It's a colour that my great grandmother used to wear back in the day.
Would really love to see some of the options Maclimes suggested, such a shame that this game seems to be hard to mod.
Adding in a color wheel at least seems like it would have been really easy to implement. Obviously multiple outfits a la ME2/3 would be the best option, but a color-wheel at least wouldn't require any new modeling/rendering on the part of developers...
Honestly, I feel like implementing a variety of clothing wouldn't be all THAT time-consuming, anyway. Clearly, the models already exist in the game. Yes, they would need to be tweaked for the different race/gender combos. But it's not like creating a whole new set of models and textures from scratch. Admittedly, though, I am no fasionologist, so I don't know for sure.
Yep, I'm throwing in with this: it's absolutely horrible. Bioware, get with YOUR OWN program. You already do this better in games you've previously made. Why take two steps back?
I totally bet that they're going to make clothes part of a DLC pack where you fork over 15 dollars for a mediocre quest, some items, and possibly a storage chest.

The hard part would be actually implementing it into the game. They'd have to write a whole new UI back end to make you able to choose outfits. And then not have it bug with anything else. That can be time consuming. Not impossible, but harder than you might think.
Just put it in the merchant store, let me buy it, and then have a little option like they do with the stables, to real quick pick what to wear. Or let it be when you buy it, that one becomes your new default outfit. To change, you have to buy another outfit.
Or just let me wear my armor. ![]()

Be careful what you wish for. You might get Sera's clown outfit.
I actually find that outfit to be adorable. XD
I think they should've added atleast 2 outfits PLUS one more being just able to wear your armor. Frankly, I think the armor looks pretty good in my opinion. Looks like an armored trenchcoat.
They're in the freezeurnipsoff region of the world, you'd think some warmer clothes would be in order. I just got to Skyhold, so I dunno if you can stay in other places besides that (don't tell me). If you can, then just figure something else out that would go well with whatever environment.
The Inquisitor's casual outfit looks so weird that I actually just started to think of it as a power move. Cullen's decked out in full armor with fluffy pauldrons, Leliana's doing the whole hood-and-chainmail thing, Josephine's, uh, getting ready for some kind of circus performance I guess, and the Inquisitor just rolls into the War Room in beige spandex. "'Sup guys?"
