I'll attribute lack of outfits to my guess that they were too ambitious with the game and ran out of budget as is evident with a lot of things in the game. The seekers didnt even have seeker armor, just using templar's armor that was reused from DA2.

What underwear? You can't be shirtless in this game, ot at least my male human mage can't..

I notice the same thing. You cannot be in your undergarment  in this installment. Everyone is wearing their casual armor when you remove the equipped armor and weapon (and shield for sword and shield warrior); it seems that it is what they wear under their armor. :P

colour would be cheap fix though, and not appropriate. Beige pyjamas or green or red pyjamas would still be pyjamas. What is needed is something armor like, something that shows what the character the inquisitor is, maybe different depending on class or race, ofcourse thats a lot extra work , but that's what is needed.

I think they were going for a medieval version of the "Mao Suit" and missed the mark completely.

Male Elves in particular look spectacular unimpressive in their taupe PJs

The hard part would be actually implementing it into the game. They'd have to write a whole new UI back end to make you able to choose outfits. And then not have it bug with anything else. That can be time consuming. Not impossible, but harder than you might think.

As someone who's done this kind of mod for countless games over the years (since 1997) I can promise adding onto the UI is hardly a difficult task, even in games that have no actual modding support. They wouldn't be writing "a whole new UI back end", they would be writing an extension. For a good programmer/designer, that's a few days worth of work at most. There are plenty of similar systems present in the game already. Don't kid yourself, this is hardly the difficult task Mike Laidlaw wants you to think it is.

UI coding is the least demanding aspect of such a "wardrobe" type system.

My theory is that you could originally wear your armor (as depicted in countless trailers and screenshots). They came to realize (late in development) that there were issues with various animations, especially when sitting down with anything that has a tailcoat, and in a panic rushed out a simpler outfit. Sadly, they did a pathetic job with the design. They could/would not spare the ressources required to put something together.

Has anyone else encountered the bug where you start the last battle with Corytheus wearing your PJs? Sure you can equip your armor right before the battle but during the cutscenes it's rather errr... strange.

Massacring his armies in every region in Thedas wearing an epic set of armor but when facing the main boss! Do it in style! Do it in your PJs!

I suppose you are right, I don't have that much experience with programming so I'm forced to go on what people tell me. Still, it's more than simply adding in a few extra armor skins and not done in 5 minutes like some people seem to think.

I had that happen too, I sure hope that's really a bug and not as intended!

While I think you're absolutely correct this was an "oh crap!" moment late in development (I think community expectations of a casual outfit surprised BioWare), it seems strange that they then went out of their way to give us this very mediocre outfit as opposed to using models already in the game--like the ball uniform, for example.

The casual outfit is really a nightmare. Both the color and the form. It's so skintight, I really wonder how long it takes to put on so tight pants x_x or get out of them again XD

I wanted to look like the Inquisitor, maybe with a long black cloak with the sign of the inquisition on my chest when I wander around my fortress or judge people in court. Or at least my armour. Anything would be better than this...

I imagine this piece of clothing was already created. I'd wager it was always meant for you to wake up in Haven wearing those after the introduction.

When I craft an outfit I'd like to see it on my character right away, but can't because I'm still wearing my pjs.

yeah it would be nice if you could preview the outfit before using the mats.. that being said, you CAN preview the outfit in the inventory screen before you equip it.

I'm pretty sure Bioware just ran out of time before implementing their full range of ideas including decent home-wear.

I agree. The Inquisitor looks so drab in Skyhold. I want to appear as a huge, imposing figure that presides over an entire faction. Why do I have to look like a common villager? While Cullen gets this wicked cool outfit with feathers and stuff, I am forced to run around like a skinny orphan boy.

Bleh.

I actually find that outfit to be adorable. XD

That's because it is adorable. I love her outfit design and its color variations.

Really? I mean, of course the community would have expectations of the casual outfit if they ARE FORCED TO WEAR IT AT ALL TIMES IN SKYHOLD. Think, Bioware, think.

The first time I walked into the war room I honestly thought it was a glitch and I was in my pyjamas. Skin tight beige pyjamas? Really? It makes absolutely zero sense that this game lets you customize the appearance and gear of your character as long as you aren´t in skyhold, if you´re in skyhold you have to look like a dolt.

At the very least couldn´t they add an option to just use your standard gear while in skyhold? There´s a hide helm option, can we please have a hide PJs option? Thanks.

lol. I like a hide pjs option. I'm pretty sure its just a simple Boolean variable in the code that flags the game to hide the armor when you are in Skyhold. It wouldn't be to much trouble to turn that off or make it into an option in the options window. (if they kept it that simple)

But I mean...after all those images of the Inquisitor standing over the war table in full armor...the pjs are sort of a wtf moment.

So last night I played chess (or fantasy variant) with Cullen. On one side of the board, there he was, sitting in his glorious armor. On the other, there I am sitting like a stooge, clad in my drab pajamas, the slits at the side showing just how poorly I dress. Can't even wear my pants at a proper height.

Thumbs up, Bioware.

I've always hated the colors of the outfit, since before release.  I thought it silly looking and bland.  Then, I had this bug happen last night that I like to call "PJ Booby Cam" (warning, minor spoiler:)  This only served to show that not only is the outfit colors still bad, but my dwarf now has cone boobs.

Spoiler

Bonus points that the first time I saw the thing,  I was waking up in bed in Haven.  I think that just removing the flags that prevent us from seeing our armor at Skyhold would be awesome.  If a person likes the glorified sleepwear, then they can keep it that way.  For the rest of us, it seems like just allowing us to wear our armor would be enough to start with.

More options on that end would be a blessing from the maker. I'm pretty sure even Mass Effect gave multiple options for casual outfitting.

I wouldn't mind something less bland than what's available.

I guess it's okay for my female Dalish mage, but for my Male Dalish rogue? No.

It's like the clothing looks to small on the character models, especially on Male characters.

It just looks so tight in the chest, like he's about to rip it with one flex of his muscles.

A mod for that is on the works, at least to change the color of the dreaded brown jammies, if Bioware doesn't want to spend time on it :) We found the texture and mesh for it already the tricky part now is to put it back on the game asset files (CAS) that are called from a secured table of contents (frostbite signs each entry on toc O.o)

Is there any word from bioware on this? This is really bugging me and effecting my enjoyment of the game. If there is any chance that this might be

changed in a future patch then I think I will stop playing this game until then.

What are the chances of them changing this?

I would say it's highly likely given the outcry. Question is will it be in a patch or DLC, and when?
