Well this is disappointing I just found this forum and tried every possible fix written and nothing worked. I'm on a PS4 I've played the game a little over 20 hours and have had 3 total convos. There's also virtually no music in any of the worlds.
Here's a question: I noticed the fix using the war room just says sky hold. I'm not there yet I'm still at haven. Does this quick travel war map fix only work at the war room in skyhold, not haven?

I believe that's the case - only works from Skyhold. I'm in the exact same situation as you (PS4, 20-ish hours) and I haven't gotten Skyhold yet. None of the fixes have worked for me either, apart from a few sporadic banters and inconsistent background music.

Edit : I have noticed that music + banter only occurrs if I hear music during/after a rest or travel to a region, but it never lasts.

Ah I see thanks guy's.I will try that now with the camp. I just finished hushed whispers...am I close to skyhold?

Haha Skyhold is the breaking point for the bugs. Or u get glitched or it can help fix your game. After u get there u can use the wartable fix, that seems to work for many. Before it does not work

A couple of page back I said it is working now properly for me. Had 3 interactive banter too.music comes and goes evey 2 minutes for 10 second. Did not get the horse. And now no ghost neigh either. Today I make my way to skyhold. Very very curious about it.

I restarted the game and was very conscious about it. If had any problems in tutorial I restarted again. What seemingly helps a great deal for me is sleep in tent over and over till I hear the sleeping music.
Beware: from the 2 tents only the main tent with the Inquisition pole has music

I actually followed what you did - restarted until I noticed everything working properly - and I haven't had any issues so far. Music is fine, banter is fine, etc.

I'm only 5 or so hours in but nothing has broken yet, so I'm optimistic.  :P

The question is though, why did it work? Is there something in the intro/tutorial that affects the RNG? Is it just one giant coincidence that everything decided to work at once? So many mysteries.  -_-

For me getting to Skyhold fixed the banter bug (but only on my second playthrough).

Just to make it interesting. That is where I lost all sound, fight sound, background music and banter.

Hey, so what things should I look out for when I start a new game? Like which things sometimes do not work "properly"?

What do you mean by the music is fine? Do you get it constantly like out in the hinterlands? In Val R? Or does it come and go in the hinterlands and not at all in Val R? Do you also get music in all combat?

It's more likely that it took that long for people to realize the game was so quiet. I got to this thread looking for a lack of music, only to realize I haven't had banter, either. (And I have yet to get to Skyhold)

I'm 90% sure that completed quests are the cause of the no banter. I am doing another playthrough and noticed when I completed the inner circle quests to recruit Vivienne and Sera they did not go into my completed quest log. So could it be possible that since the companion recruit quests don't appear as completed the game thinks you don't have that companion and therefor don't get banter?. I was getting banter fine for Varric,Solas and cass(I got about 5 in an hour) but since recruiting viv and sera I've had none in the last 2 hours. I have had sera and viv in my party too for those 2 hours.

I think the music in game really just come and go by design. That's the case in bioware's videos.

Hey, so what things should I look out for when I start a new game? Like which things sometimes do not work "properly"?

Straight off Cassandra should have a combat soundset, this was my big clue. Listen for her saying things like "Maker take you" or "Dead!" (ahah...oh, Cassandra). Once you get Varric and Solas, if anyone falls in combat you should listen for reactions from the other party members.

Also keep in mind that the banter during the tutorial is scripted and always happens in the same spots!

If you need any other things to look for just let me know. :) I've played the intro enough times I know it by heart now.

Music isn't constant but it should play every few minutes. It fades out after a minute or so.

I'm not sure about Val R yet, I haven't gone back there. I should test that.

Aaand it seems like combat music is mainly scripted cues - like in the Hinterlands during the Mage/Templar conflict, dragon fights, etc. I think there are random encounters that can get combat music (Emerald Graves in my old save comes to mind), but I think by design it's not in every battle.

Also bonus: There should be a little ditty that plays when you rest.

The last two banters that I got was Sera talking about a] peeing, and b] having farted.

I hope I have the banter bug so I won’t have to listen to more of this stuff.

yeah I've pretty much had this all correct then and my save isn't bugged. I seem to be getting everything properly. Gonna restart soon.

I'm yet to see anyone have a more enhanced experience than this in lets plays or even Bioware's own gameplay vids. I'm not at all suggesting that people aren't getting alot of these bugs + other ones, but I am starting to think that some questionable design choices have left players thinking they have the bug when they might actually not.

If I could like this 100x I would. If the dev's would just make a statement about how the audio is supposed to work, it would help clear up the confusion that many people are having.

Mark Darrah did say that music wasn't supposed to always play. He asked someone if there were getting anything more than just footsteps in combat. I assume you should just get the occassional combat chatter between enemies and your party + plus weapon sounds and background enviro noises.

Yeah, but "isn't always supposed to play" doesn't really confirm anything, ya know? It just basically says "you shouldn't always be hearing music" but that doesn't say anything about how often or long you should be hearing music, i.e., should you hear music for 30 seconds and then have a few minutes no-music before it begins again, or should it play until something interrupts it (such as combat or party banter).

Fair point; however, in Bioware's gameplay vids the music is sporadic, starting up about every 2 mins or so for 30 seconds. Their vids didn't have some combat music that played every time. Only time I saw them have combat music was in a fight against a dragon, and only once the dragon landed. I also saw a part where music started up before combat and just kept playing through some combat. I've had the same. That's about as good as a confirmation as anyone should need.

There is also no way that that the majority of the music is supposed to play constantly. The soundtrack for the hinterlands for example: every song is structured with a beginning, middle and end. If you put something structured like that on a loop and have it constantly it gets annoying very very quick and is just plain wrong. We've done that before in the game that I work on and some players complained. The drums in Haven on the other hand sound structured to play constantly, and for me they do. They're initially loud, but quickly fall back to a looping background beat.

EDIT: There's a lot of scripted music early on in the prologue and also when you're in the hinterlands certain quests have music tied to them such as the mages fighting in the open area. To me if they didn't have the scripted music at the start, I doubt as many people would've noticed the lack of music as much once the game opens up.

I'm happy to report that going offline plus fasttraveling directly from the wartable have greatly improved the situation for me. I had five banters triggered while doing the quests for ram meat and apostate caches, banters I've never heard before.

While I'd still be happy for a patch to fix this, for now this workaround does seem to do the trick for me. :) Thanks a lot for those suggesting it!

I definitely agree. I think the OP could benefit from some clarification on what is normal vs. maybe a severely bugged/glitched game.

But! I also don't think it's a stretch for people to assume because they experienced X or Y bug, that the fact they also haven't heard banter in a long while is related.

It seems like most of the players posting in this thread have noticed or made a connection between the 'banter bug' and other bugs/glitches affecting their games, whether or not the bug is an actual thing or just really, really, really unlucky RNG.

For me personally, whatever the case, I'm just glad I've got combat soundsets finally. Combat before was like hitting toys together and pretending they were real.

I wasn't sure if my banter was glitched or not and I'm still not, even though I haven't had a ton of banter. Often it fires all at once and then I won't hear anything for a good long time afterward. I'm 90+ hours into the game (just finished the plot line), and I heard enough banter to keep me happy but... banter's not supposed to recycle? Because my Varric and Cassandra banter recycles all the time. I think I heard that conversation about Cassandra recruiting Cullen between them at least three or four times. Is this a reported issue in this thread? I don't really have time to sift through 100+ pages. If it's not a reported problem...well, this is me reporting it I suppose. If devs need my save file, I'm happy to give the information...

What do you mean? What were you getting before? Just your footsteps? No actual sounds when you attack or anything?
