No combat sounds at all? Like hit sounds and what not?

Well, it really depends I should say, some more observations:

- as soon as I started using the war council table, the bard is glitches out beyond repair and does not have music or lyrics, nothing I try makes it better. This is sort of unnerving, as I am assuming an audio glitch there and I don't know whether it's just about the bard

- what usually gives me reliable banter is fast traveling from the war table in Haven to the 1st camp in the Hinterlands and checking if music is playing when resting/using the tent. As soon as I start exploring, wandering around, doing quests, the tent stops making a sound -> then I have to go back to Haven and use the war table again in order to have the resting at the tent make a sound ->  banter is usually relatively frequent and reliable then, every 10-15 minutes or so, background music remains for mostly about 10 seconds

- sometimes using the 2 autosaves, which the game regularly creates, is giving me banter more frequently

Are you averaging one every twenty minutes while actually playing or idling? I found Asunder to be pretty meh and could easily play a game and read it at the same time, heh. When I recorded a video while AFK for about an hour and a half, I was getting quite a bit of banter. Unfortunately, they stop talking when I enter the room, much like my days in high school.

Just wondering what your rate of banter is while interacting with the environment.

Also, wondering how Jeff's stream went the other night?

The time from prior to tonight was while playing normally.   So, while out and about, I was still getting banter around every 20 minutes.

I loved Asunder and I was reading at my desk.  ;)

Thanks for all of your work Natashina! I hope they are also looking at footage where no workarounds (codex cleaning or otherwise) have been done, as 6+ banters in 90 or so minutes would definitely be an improvement. I can't wait to see how they respond to your testing!

I wonder, the people who are experiencing the bug: do you use the search ping often? Someone posted in this thread a couple days ago saying they had their ping interrupt playing banter twice. Maybe banter only occurs an X amount of time after a ping? I know I'm constantly pinging like a mad man, so if there's any relation it would make sense that I'm rarely getting banter.

It's probably nothing, but might be worth looking into. I won't have any time to play for the next couple of days so I can't check this myself.

I was the one that posted that up but sadly I haven't had the time to test it out myself as I'm building 4 PC's for some friends and family for Christmas so ill be busy for the next few days since the parts just arived and i only have one finished and tested so far

You all are very welcome.  I'm happy to help.

They likely are looking at footage from those that haven't done the cleaning.  Or for those that have new characters.  As I told Conal, I had already done the codex and journal cleaning before testing for him tonight.  I also let him know that I wasn't up for rerolling again, which he was totally fine with.

I can tell you guys that, unless they ask for more footage, I'm pretty much done with testing for now.  I'm going to be going back to just playing the game in a more natural style.  I'm going to continue to clear any new codex entries and quests, and not using my mount much as well.  I also rest every time I go back to a camp.  From here on out, my observations are going to be more informal, but I can share my experiences if you guys want.   :)

Just wanted to note here again, in case it got lost, that my Twitch footage is non-workaround, deliberately so. The only thing I do is avoid war room fast travel as much as possible (if it gives me the option I always decline it), otherwise I mostly play as normal (or, well, casual in my case ;)).

Cool, I'll try to look at that later. (I'm already running late for work because of this thread!) I did start watching Natashina's video, but realized I don't want to hear banter unless it's coming from a game I'm playing myself. I am slightly concerned that they are still asking for footage.. does that mean they still can't reproduce the bug?

Hi everyone.

I've been trying this method, and it works for me 100%, so I hope it helps.

First delete all your manual saves except for two.

Then when you enter an area, make a new save, wait for the game to make an auto save, then delete a manual save, then wait for another auto save, and finally load that last auto save. After all this you should have normal Party Banter.

If you enter a to another area and notice that again the Party Banter don't work, repeat the steps above.

As I said so far this works for me the 100% of the times.

Wow, the Skyhold war map travel solution fixed the music issues and this fixed my banter. :)

Had Dorian and Bull chatting away and Cassandra talk for the first time with Sera, I was in Crestwood and then in the Mire.

Hope it will stay this way..! Playing on PC and first playthrough was a silent one, this is the second try.

Stopped getting banter after an hour using the codex/journal/rest/autosaveonly/wartable fixes but before that nanter was cery regular once every 10 mins.

I have a suspicion that restarting the game will bring banter back will report back tomorrow

I haven't followed this topic anymore because I had the banter problem in the beginning but now it's fixed, I did nothing in particular but after about 40-50 hours of gameplay I started getting a lot of banter. I think it depends on how you spend the first hours of your run, I lingered too much in the Hinterlands and almost never returned to Haven, this way I spoke very little with my companions and didn't flirt with anyone because I was afraid to spoil my romance with Blackwall, but I think this way the companions never get the chance to know each other, nor the inquisitor, so they have very little to say one another... is it possible?

All these workarounds don't really help the developers or ourselves. In a way we are screwing with the game, achieving banter, being constantly paranoid, and making it seem as if our games are actually working. Mixed signals and all that.

These workarounds are not real fixes, they are not reliable and don't work for everyone. *sigh* I'm not saying that we shouldn't do it, but it just seems like we are getting nowhere whilst achieving little.

I somehow preferred to the silent game with ignorance, because then I could actually enjoy the game and not think about the damnable bug every 5 minutes.

My stream had me standing precisely where Conal suggested (because it's nothing but raaaaaams) for two hours. I brought my least-used combination of Vivienne, Sera, and Cassandra (it's one of the least used, in any case) and waited. Cass and Sera chatted twice; that was it. Bonus points because it continued the 100-hour tradition of Vivienne having never fired off a single banter for me. >___>

I gotta send it to Conal today. Finals week had it not even recorded until yesterday. Thankfully, I can proudly announce that I actually completed a story mission for the first time since a day or two before I started this thread! A momentous occasion. Our tips and tricks have netted me enough banter that I finally felt ready to press onward.

Quinton Trevelyan being Level 19 with a one-handed mace capable of about 340 DPS sort of made Here Lies the Abyss play more like "Here Laughs the Inquiss", but I'll take it. Great quest, even if it felt like I was running through Chrono Trigger with a bunch of Triple Techs or something.

I had barely any party chat in the early game, Hinterlands and such, but once the story moved from Haven to Skyhold, I suddenly noticed a lot more. I'm now getting at least two conversations kicking off in each area. I'm not exactly sure why but that's my experience so far.

I really wish they had a "mark them all as read" option in the codex. :/

It would also be great for the journal and inventory, but that might actually mess up the game even more  :)

Indeed! I'm still hoping for some out-of-game, synced reading on the Keep, so I could read everything during work meetings. I mean, in my free time.

The wartable fix hasn't helped much for me. Though I do use the same party consistently. I still only get banter every several hours. Though the mount/dismount/rest trick seems to get me two banters about ten minutes apart and then it stops again.

Mark Darrah said 30 mins without anything isn't unlikely.

I've been hearing a bit in my new game. Maybe one every 40 mins or so. Varric just said something to Solas and to start he called him Chuffles or soemthing.

Can anyone remember that nickname getting established for Solas earlier than this bit of banter? Its the first time I heard him call Solas chuffles and I was wondering if it'd skipped banter.

There is a difference between having a pause of 30 minutes once in a while and having 1 hour long (or more) blocks of silence all the time.

Reading every codex entry and "cleaning" the stars for every item seems to help too

I think the ideal fix is to give us a function key or menu option to get banter on demand. And repeat banter that you heard before. This way players can pace the banter to their own taste. And have a favourite banter replayed.

I can't count how many times I walked around Kirkwall, hoping for my favorite dialogues <3

Chuckles. He calls him Chuckles. And he can/will call it him from his first cutscene in the game if you tell him you're pleased to meet him on the convo wheel.

I've been away for a couple days, and from a review of this thread it seems that the scuttlebutt is BioWare is still looking into the banter problems (as evidenced by private messages/tweets) but have still been unable to reproduce it? I was trying to wait it out for a fix but it sounds like it won't be forthcoming any time soon and I don't think I can hold off any longer.... I'm itching to play this fantastic game, plus I'm getting paranoid about the increasing risk of spoilers as we get farther from release.

My experiences with the proposed workarounds - the journal/codex clearing worked for a glorious 1:15 minutes in which I had 9 (!!!!!) banters... since then, despite meticulous clearing, I've reverted back to my regular 1 every 60-90 minutes.  No luck with any of the others, including the War Table fix. But still very thankful for the info and work put in here because I did get a whole 9 extra and glorious banters I never would have had otherwise!! Including the first and only times I've ever heard Vivienne or Blackwall banter :D

Haven't tried the deleting the manual saves trick, though; possibly the next thing to try!

This! I’ve mostly fixed my playthrough, so my vids aren’t very helpful right now.

If anyone who is still affected by the bug (as in, let’s say max 1 banter/hour) could upload footage, that might help. I’ll walk you through setting up recording for Twitch if need be (but it’s really very easy just following their guide + making sure you go to Twitch settings and select to archive your videos, which is off by default.) After that you just click to stream, start playing, and it’ll magically stream and store the video for you.

I still have a save that's fresh after the prologue, as well as a continuation of that where I've just started the Hinterlands. What's the recommended testing procedure? I'm on PS4.

Update: My second playthrough is going much better (more banter firing). This time I'm playing a female human mage (first time I was a female elven rogue). Both times used Alix's VO.

Still have all sound (including combat/ambient/etc) drop out randomly at the beginning and end of combat- I've noticed it will also drop out if my character falls (I'll be up and walking again before the "umph!" fires and sound resumes). But this time my starting party actually spoke (first playthrough, Solas, Varric and Cass didn't say one word to each other) a few times while exploring, so I'm wondering if it might be tied to the race/class combo? IDk- just trying to help.
