An update would be nice, even if it's just to say they haven't found anything yet. Instead, they leave us in the dark.

They did found something. Everything works as intended.

Anyway since they've already said it won't be in the first patch, I'm guessing they already have a list of bugs they'll address with it, so they are focusing on fixing those while ignoring this one.

Update on my experiment from last night: confirmed I was still getting banter in the Hinterlands. Did the Val R initial stuff. No music while walking around. Traveled back to Haven, then back to Val R. Still no music. :(

Gonna ask again if anybody who’s still definitely suffering from the bug (<1 banter/hour or so) has or would like to record some gameplay? Here’re instructions to set up on Twitch: http://help.twitch.t...caster-software

(Plus, you have tick the Archiving box in your Twitch settings.)

Thanks for the proactive support Jeffzero,

A clean install does help, in some cases and I've noticed small "Dialog history" deviations when backing up to a milestone.  This inconsistent game behavior between players is puzzling, its difficult to reproduce.

Good luck

I'm on may third character and banter is heard between characters

1. me, cass, varric and solas

2. me, viv, sera, cass

3. me. sera, bull, viv

4.me, cass. bull, viv

5. me, sera, varric, cass

PC here, btw

I'm convinced the War Table fix doesn't actually fix anything. I don't think the War table music is supposed to play constantly in Skyhold. And I don't think the orlesian music is supposed to play constantly either. I think we're just bugging the music.

I have a question... How does interactive banter work (on pc)?

With the workarounds I got more banter now, but at 130h I had not one interactive banter in all that time?

O.o

It's suppose to be you have to arbitrate or give an opinion on some conversation between two characters in your party. That's my understanding anyhow.

I know its not releated directly but since we all waiting for a patch here you go, posted from twitter https://twitter.com/BioMarkDarrah

"I realize that many of you are looking for clarity on the 1st patch. The goal was Dec. 9. We will be missing that on most platforms."

Well since it has been over a week since they've known about it and there's still no update of whether they've found what's causing the problems (if they are actually looking for it that is), giving up is pretty much all we are left with.

Damn, that is disappointing. I run around for hours and get absolutely nothing, I purchased the game for more than just the main story line, but apparently that's all we get. Having to speed through main quests just to get some interaction with party members is bogus.

That's awesome news from Mark Darrah! In case anyone didn't see, he says that the PC patch will be on December 9th (I'm fairly sure if I'm reading between the lines correctly), but the patch will be delayed on one or both consoles for a while due to difficulties.

Gonna make one more character before giving up until it's properly patched (not gonna hold my breath on the first big one fixing it). That's what I keep telling myself at least... fourth time's the charm...

Except they've already said that the first patch will NOT fix banter and other audio issues.

Yeah, war table fixes nothing regarding banter for me. I've tried in the past few days and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes I get 3 banter in 30 minutes, other times I clear a whole region with no squeal from anybody.

Music appears to be be better with the war table though.

They only said banter, and I never said it did. Is something wrong?

Yes. You announcing the "awesome news" of a patch release in a thread about a problem that will not be fixed by said patch release. It is very misleading to any casual reader of this thread.

This is old news, but I'm adding another voice to the Western Approach being a dead zone. I spent 3.5 hours roaming around yesterday after unlocking the area for the first time in that playthrough and switched my party at least once. I rolled with Dorian/Varric/Iron Bull and then Blackwall/Cassandra/Vivienne. Dorian and Varric had never been in a party together before that; same deal with Blackwall and Cassandra. Absolute silence.

What's weird is that the music, combat comments (i.e., "Bits up, face down!"), and environmental responses generally work perfectly for me. Companions will say one-liners in response to something (Dorian will comment on how he gets seasick just looking at the shore in the Storm Coast, and everyone will pitch a giant coughing fit in response to the sulfuric gases in the Western Approach). Occasionally I will not get any music on rest. I do notice a delay in sound sometimes. Jumping noises will not always sync with actions.

Clearing the journal/inventory/codex does seem to work temporarily. Sometimes traveling from the war table helps and sometimes it doesn't. Deleting a bunch of my saves (I just moved everything except the autosaves out of the save folder) worked quite well for a bit. Triggered 3 banters in about 45 minutes - in that playthrough, I averaged less than 1 banter/2 hours. Going offline doesn't seem to make a difference for me.

The fixes that work make me wonder if this is not necessarily an audio problem, but possibly related to memory or priority processes somehow. I have no idea.

Hopefully the BioWare devs will give us some kind of update soon.

For me it seems like banter and music work as intended for me, IF I'm just idling around.

I'm no coder or anything, but it really feels to me like a priority issue.  As in, the party member to party member banter seems to be lower priority than environment comment and quest comments.  I say that because, when I'm walking around doing stuff, exploring/closing rifts/setting up camps, I would get very little member-to-member banter, but I would get one-liner comments like, "Ouch."  "That's rather grisly."  "This desert is so big." etc., as I pick up quest items and whatnot.

I do consistently get music as I'm exploring.  Consistently getting "combat banter" as well, such as when combat ends, party members will say taunts like, "One down!" During combat, I'd hear things like "Kill the warrior!" "Solas needs help!"  I also noticed is that things like "We should set up camp here" takes the place of intra-party banter.  Because sometimes I walk up to a camp site I haven't claimed yet, and nobody in my party says "This looks like a good place to camp." Then about half the time, right after I claim the camp, I'd get a banter right away.  If someone said, "This looks like a good place to camp," I would claim it and then no banter.

Anyway, it was still bugging me because while it's nice that I get the combat/exploration/questing comments, very rarely do I get party members talking amongst themselves.  Which is why I think even more that it's an issue with priorities.

So I had some work to get done over the weekend and I thought that was a good opportunity to do some idle-in-a-camp testing.

Loaded up an Autosave 67 hours into current playthrough, in the Path of Flames camp in the Exalted Plains.  Turned around and walked to the World Transition point instead of bringing up World Map from the Menu.  Party is Vivienne, Sera, and Blackwall.

Quick Traveled to Hinterlands, Redcliffe camp (the camp, not the town).  No mount/dismount.  No resting.  I just accepted the Requisition and idled in the camp from 1:22 p.m. to 4:58 p.m., and I think the pattern I got is what's intended.

The background music triggered like clockwork, every 2-3 minutes I would get a clip of music for about 7 - 20 seconds that has a natural-sounding fade-out.

In the 3.5 hours of idling, I got 22 banters, counting one-liner comments on environment.  I got a healthy variety of A with B, B with C, A with C.

First one at 4 minutes

Then 9 minutes

43 minutes

46 minutes

56 minutes

57 minutes (yes this one was back-to-back pretty much)

69 minutes

73 minutes

76 minutes

86 minutes

93 minutes

103 minutes (Sera one-liner comment on environment)

113 minutes (Blackwall one-liner comment on environment)

128 minutes

131 minutes [Followed by the longest silence yet, but music still triggering every 2-3 minutes]

169 minutes

171 minutes

175 minutes (Sera one-liner)

186 minutes

195 minutes

210 minutes,

and finally one at 215 minutes.

I noticed that the one-liner comments seem to take a "slot" of a member-to-member banter.  One more reason that makes me think it's a priorities issue.

By the grace of the Maker, I set out to beat Inquisition this weekend and lo and behold, I actually did it. It's almost eleven at night and I need to be up early in the Monday morn, but I beat it. Whew. I hadn't expected that to take me three weeks, but a week of it was religiously posting in this very thread while running tests and stuff, so I guess it's closer to two. :P

Well anyway, I'm back for good and stuff. But I have a looot of catch-up reading to do. If anyone wishes to PM me with a list of things I ought to include in what would be the first OP update in over a week tomorrow, please do. That'd be mucho easier.

And if your bug isn't so bad anymore thanks to the work-arounds, go forth and beat the game if you haven't! I feel so fulfilled. Good ending was good.

To those who haven't been able to find a way around it, though, my heart goes out to you. And my hopes. This thing needs to go away permanently... eventually.

Unfortunately, I have no idea as well. In my case it was converstation between Varric and Dorian about Inquisitor's  chances of final win.

However, it seems funny they claim there's no bug whatsoever, while we're clearly going through some serious issues during gameplay. I think that theory regarding saves might be valid. I deleted majority of savegames and then saved manually into existing slot- banter occured right after that. But who knows.... the bug can have its roots in all of these theories altogether- war table, saves, mount/dismount etc etc.

Hahaha yes, that was mine as well... I've had no other repeats, but I have heard that conversation 9 times at last count :P At least I can amuse myself by picking different dialogue options at the end each time!

Same here ! :D i guess i could count 5 times of this happening altogether. I might not have had a lot of interactive banters but this one is surely gonna be memorable, haha...

And seriously, this bug is so frustrating. What I'm afraid of is that I might be missing some of comments on my romance. All in all, I must admit that I'm playing DA games mainly for interaction with other characters... so this kind of bug makes me sad to even bigger extent.

Allan Schumaker is a cool guy, he has done a lets play of DA:I, maybe we can use that to determine whats normal for banter and what isn't?

I think there is definitely a sound issue on the PS4 version.  I was playing last night and as I exited the war-room I noticed all of a sudden my armor made sounds.  Leather creaked and metal armor jingled.  That never happened before since I started playing the game.  Then it disappeared after I zoned from the quest map out of skyhold.  I don't know if that's related to the party banter stopping (which I also have, no one in my party says a word anywhere in the Western approach zone).

Hahaha.....I am not sure to laugh or to cry....there is sound effects for clothing? This is my 6. realisation I am missing something connected to sounds ( background music, banter, fight music, fight talking, menu clicks?, and clothing sound)
