Played a solid 3.5 hours tonight. Had one banter between Cass and Blackwall on the Storm Coast.

Also spent ages in the Western Approach in complete silence :(

I second (third, fourth?) the sentiment that is like to hear something official about this from the devs. I'm not expecting an instant fix but just that they are aware and will try to figure the problem out.

Allan said he was going to experiment with this and he's a developer.  I know it's not the same as a clear answer, but we aren't being left out in the cold here.  It's very likely we'll hear from him within the next day or so, and see what he found.

I am getting the issue too  - very little banter between the party members, Varric and Cass the most.

I used to be a software test manwger so I'd be happy to help by running test scenarios, if anyone would care to give them to me.

/A

I think my party just got angry at me for walking around the Hinterlands for like 20 hrs, and this is there way of getting back at me. (hey, at least it's plausible!) :P

Using the 'Repair Game' option from Origin didn't work for me either, nor did starting a new game.

Also if it helps I'm playing on PC, digital download, I don't have the deluxe edition but I do have the pre-order bonus.

I wonder what happens if we use and test out the same save file from a person who has constant party banter. It's probably more of a client issue but who knows :\

Wow! So many people have come out of the woodwork now, it seems this bug is more common than I originally thought. On one hand, it's awful so many people are missing out on such an integral part of the experience, but on the other hand, this is actually a good thing. The more people report, the less the devs can ignore this and sweep it under the rug. We cannot let this die. And to think that there are probably many many more players blissfully unaware, chugging along quite happily thinking this is intended.

I'm going to do some more experimentation later today.

Oh and just to clarify, I am playing on NON-deluxe, 360, physical copy. Since it's happening across all platforms and all versions, we can safely rule that out. I wonder what the common denominator is then.

Maybe, "we're all descendants of Tevinter magisters who entered the Golden City." :S

You're absolutely right, though. Lots of reports generally means more likelihood of progress. A higher priority for the larger-than-I-originally-anticipated number of people impacted.

Hmmm....and not everyone seems to have pre-ordered as well.   I'm not entirely sure.  I based my experiments last night on what Allan had experienced.  I'm not saying his is the end-all-be-all of what the developers intend.  Allan had said that he had left the game idle for about 5 minutes on the Xbox One while he was doing some other stuff and heard the banter kick in.

I used the "British" female voice on my characters, if that helps.  I can try with the American female later, but I don't think that's a factor.

Funny thing: One of the two banters I got in the Storm Coast happened when I was looking through one of those skull binoculars.  There was this very eerie echo when Varric and Blackwall were talking.

For those that don't know, we have a thread open here and there has been some folks posting there as well.  I've been reassured that the developers are reading the threads there.

I went ahead and renamed the thread for easier comprehension. If it causes confusion instead then I'll bring back the original title.

I'm not sure the cadence.  I remember waaaaay back in the day just sitting idle with the game on my XB1 sitting idle hearing banter go off as I worked on other stuff.  I loaded up my game now, and in 5 minutes I heard a banter, but then waited another 10-15 with nothing (I did have some combats in there though)

EDIT: I'm about to play now so I'll keep an eye out for it.

So how is it meant to work? What actually triggers the banter in the first place? Is it just on a timer?

Jeff, perhaps you can add the HQ thread to the OP so people can report there as well.

Now that I know this I'll have to put my playthrough on hold, because honestly, this for me IS a game-changer.

My party has been Varric-Cassandra-Solas throughout my whole 15 hours in the Hinterlands, and they NEVER ever talked to each other.

Same for me, and a lot of people.

And as I play, it is something that is constantly on my mind. "Will I hear any banter today?" "Maybe if I loot this chest, it will trigger" etc etc. Very frustrating!

Haha, yup. As I stated yesterday, my playthrough is definitely on hold. And if I need to lose the 50-odd hours and start again fresh once this is resolved in order to experience the vast wealth of script I've been denied then so be it, I shall. ~_~ Hopefully not, though!

I was honestly suprised when wondering around the Storm Coast with Balckwall, Sera and Cassandra they actually started a conversation.

First thing I thought was "So you people are not mindless puppets just following me around. Good to know ahah"

This is really frustrating :(

I'm on PS4 and there seems to be very little of party banter. Maybe once or twice while running around places or complete silence. Told my boyfriend who's playing on PC to try same party at same place as me. Lot's of banter :(

It's hard to know if one is affected or not. There have definitely been hours of exploration where no-one says a thing. Followed by other areas where the group is more chatty. It definitely feels on the light side for my play through. I'm on PC.

Human male mage, with flame of the inquisition DLC & digital deluxe DLC. I have also accidentally downloaded the english voice over pack.

I mounted a horse once to complete the hinterland quest, but have never got on since. Even bringing in a party with the 3 other mages (who have never been in a party together, since i always bring one of each class), i do not get banter.

I'm grasping at straws here, but how many times have each of you started a new game? Do you have the digital deluxe DLCs installed?

Perhaps bioware could share what the mean time between banter is scripted to be, and what triggers stops banter from occurring?

I beat the game last night and it was mostly silent the entire time. I probably had about three dozen banters during a 55 hour play time.

Thank you so much for this thread! I'm having the same issue :( In 50+ hours (ps4 player, digital deluxe download) I've hit maybe 6 banters. 2-3 in the Hinterlands, 1 in the prologue (the interactive one) 1 in the Fallow Mire, 1 in Crestwood, and none nowhere else. My normal party consists of Solas/Cole/Cass, but I switched out for "team YOLO" since I figured maybe they would end up talking more, and they haven't had a single one yet and it's been hours.  :(

I ended up making a 2nd playthrough to see if that would help, and I'm still having the same issue on it. 3ish hours of the Hinterlands and I've had zero banters with my group so far.
