So I ran through the exalted plains again (on foot) with a new crew viv varric and Bull nothing for almost an hour and then 3 quick brief ones in under 30 mins.

Location specific one liners are triggering just fine. Viv at the citadel, Bull at the hand and Varric at the river but defo my Bull and Vivienne are having problems, the parties I have them in seem to have less banter for long periods.

In my experience the bug isn't limited to any one location. It seemed at first like the Hinterlands were a little better at first, but on my second run through I realized most of the comments in the first hour or so there are scripted.

Could any devs explain how the banter is supposed to function maybe? Timer? Random? We're kind of stabbing In the dark...

I'll comment on this as well: my party members banter with each other if the topic is directly related to story events somehow but nothing light-hearted or anything that isn't tied to story events I've done. I've had Blackwall and Iron Bull in my party for probably 10+ hours and they haven't spoken once.

EDIT: My friend who has been experiencing banter as normal gave me some of her savegames so I'll do some testing.

How did Bioware miss this during the extra month they got to squash bugs? This is a miserable glitch because the world feels DEAD without party banter. I went two HOURS without a single peep from my companions when exploring the Hinterlands. :(

Yeah, Allan addressed this earlier in the thread. But yes, both this and the gender bending bug should have been picked up in QA. However, knowing how testing works, it's more challenging to pick out these types of intermittent issues. Much easier to test do this then that happens type of scenarios. Also, bet they were squeezed for time at the end and could be a later build introduced this issue, but they didn't have the time to fully test through everything. Anyway, all of this is pure speculatio, iimportant thing is they acknowledge the issue, identify what is causing it, and fix the darned thing!

Used my friend's savegame and got one to trigger in a spot where I knew I'd heard banter before, but that was it. It was between two character whom she never had in a party together before so it was their first conversation. Maybe I'd have to play more to get a more accurate look on it but there's that.

I do agree that would be very helpful.

Good on Mark to officially assign someone! We may have a couple of people at work on it now.

I didn't realize I had this problem until I saw this thread, and it's both a sad and a relief at the same time? Like, I thought there were just fewer banters, or I wasn't in the right place, or something -- but it being a glitch makes me feel better because a glitch is, hpefully, fixable!

For what it's worth, British male elf mage Inquisitor, did not stay silent in any dialogues, PC, digital downlod, Deluxe Edition -- I think these are all the variables people have considered? And I've had the "low dialogue" problem in every region so far.

Just rechecked this thread...let me just say that I am totally surprised and relieved that someone is actually working on this issue. At least it's a step in the right direction! :)

I have the same problem with rare banters. I have about 30 hours worth of playtime with 5 major areas explored and maybe a 10 banters or so. With a bunch of different party combinations too. I'm on Xbox 360.

Yeah, I think I have this glitch because I'n 47 hours in and I may have heard my party banter very little. Sometimes it will be hours before anyone says anything and it's kinda disapointing. I set up my groups to hear the most banter and they stay in complete silence lol. I'm on PC

I'm wondering if it would help the troubleshooting process if some of the players who have experienced this problem provide their save files to Bioware for analysis. If it's happening consistently when you save and reload, it may point to some anomaly in the save file, where something is set to an unexpected value.

Just a thought.

Some posts earlier, parara said normal save file from his/her friend didn't help.

I'd gladly donate my file for analysis, although it may require a bit of a hoop because I'm on PS4. If it's possible to do so and Allan or anyone else believes they can scope it out then just point me in the right direction!

^Maybe a few more would help them nail it down?

Or not. Shrug.

Happened to me too, on PC.  Say about 65 hours, and maybe a dozen banters, total?  And for none of them did the option to join in appear.

Okay how about this instead: someone with normal frequency party banter posts her save, so people experiencing problems can do a test/comparison. Ideally we all record our frequency, including those without the problem.

My party banter seems all over the place. I switch out key characters for quests and such, and I've noticed this: Blackwall and Vivienne speak a lot. Varric and Vivienne speak a lot. Sera bantered with somebody, although I can't remember who.

However, my main party for everything general is Cassandra, Cole, and Vivienne. And when I have the three of them together, I don't hear any party banter. At first I thought, "Maybe Cassandra and Vivienne just don't speak to Cole at all." But that doesn't explain why Cassandra and Vivienne don't at least talk to each other.

I have experience this issue as well. Mostly I do not hear any talking. I was surprised when I first started playing and realized how quiet everyone was being. I do get some interaction but I would say it only happens when I fast travel and then change my party members at a camp. Then I might get one or two conversations but now that is overshadowed by the majorly game destroying audio glitches that do not allow me to even hear the banter. I am beyond frustrated with the experience. I really hope they fix the audio glitches and this one as well. I cannot get into the game anymore and frankly I cannot play it with the glitches that are present on my PS4 right now.

I'm on PS4 and experienced  very little banter, clocking in at 86 hours and rolling with various parties. I was like... so, they only talk once per area? The only time Varric talked to anyone the entire game was during his personal quest (and only with the person who joins you on that quest). Vivienne only spoke once, to Cassandra. Dorian only talked once, to Solas. Sera only talked to Solas (and then only 3 or 4 times). Iron Bull only talked to Cole (maybe twice). Blackwall had three banters total (one with Solas, one with Cassandra and one with Cole), and he was in my party all the time. They commented on things in the environment, they just didn't talk to each other. I kept trying different parties, thinking maybe the people I had together just didn't like each other, but it was pretty quiet the whole game.

Oh yeah, the story of my playthrough. I finished the game and It feels like I missed out of a huge chunk of it. The characters were the best part of the game to me and it's such a huge shame that I didn't really experience them to the fullest. Such colourful characters and they barely interacted with one another. There were times I literally heard one banter per zone. It got very lonely at times and made me want to just rush to the finish line. I do want to play again to make different choices, etc. So hopefully it gets fixed so I can do just that without the bitterness.

And the problem was just with them talking to each other, they commented on the environment when we came across something strange - in dungeons, etc.

I do remember that once Varric and Dorian kept repeating the same banter at least 5 times in one zone. It nearly drove me insane. Mostly because they barely spoke at all and then just started repeating the same lines over and over!

This is on PC by the way.

I would expect more detail from Bioware than "(somone) is looking into it".  It seems to me to be how it's run now.  I don't even remember a decent apology for the original ME3 ending (which I believe was deserved).  Dragon Age: Inquisition seems to be another example of a game not in a good state at release.....

Yeah, I think one thing I'm prepared to say with relative certainty is that the "single companion comments on specifically-environmental thing" system is intact for most of us. What is broken is the banter between companions.
