Yeah, idling around in a previously unexplored area with one companion I’d never had, it seemed to be something like 15–30 minutes between chats.

Obviously if being anywhere near combat breaks the timer rather than pauses it or blocks it, that’s a huge design flaw. I can’t imagine that’s the case, though, since lots of people have had normal banter and presumably played the same zones as we have…

Well, from my experiences after Patch 3, you're only guaranteed banter every 10 or so mins if you stand in one spot doing absolutely nothing.

Tried completely emptying my journal of unread quests, tried playing offline, tried playing without Origin, tried only leaving Skyhold via the War Table teleports, nothing seems to fix the bug. I'm unsure why the devs thought increasing the rate of banter would work...no matter what you multiply zero by, you still get a result of zero.

At least there's Youtube. :/

Currently on eight hours playtime on my third character with a party setup I've never used before... which is why I was looking forward to hearing them speak. Nope. They've never said a word to one another. I've done every work around listed and am currently idling in place while playing a mobile game on my phone. Silence. I'll play up until Skyhold, if it doesn't fix by then I guess I'm deleting my mage and starting over. Which pisses me off.

The party in question being Cassandra, Sera, and Blackwall.

I'm sitting at 44 hours and I've had, at max, 10 banters so far.

I'm guessing that isn't normal, right?

Banters are still very rare for me too even after the new patch.

Rolled new character (4th playthrough) and no banter in the Hinterlands after 5 hours, with a newish party composition as well. I might start over again... I notice that every now and then I'll roll a character who seems to have more issues than others, so if I catch it early I have to start over.

I've completed 3 playthroughs, the most recent one with the latest patch.  I had banter 5 times in my most recent playthrough, and I never used the dang horse.  Seriously Bioware, how hard is it to fix this? The least ya'll could do address the community and tell us how close we are to getting a fix...

I have encountered a higher ratio of banter in the dark desert. It was possibly every 20 minutes or so, usually it happened conveniently while triggering another event which meant their lines were cut off :D.

Hinterlands is silent, no banter at all, other are scarse too. And for example, Iron Bull/Sera/Dorian never leads to any dialogue.

Played yesterday and today with the new patch (PS4). I've run around interlands (no horse used) for a good amount of time. One hour or so. I trigged two banters, the first from when I started this run (I just have meet Mother Giselle) and I was estathic. For the first time I heard some enviromental music.

Than I explored the Oasis. For. two. hours. Only two breach closed, and no enemy of others type around. I have walked around finding shards. Not. even. one. banter. Only the ones in the temple. Than total silence from the party members. And no music at all from the start of the area. Only some sound in the gallery. Than nothing again.

Is starting to became frustrating. Banter should came out naturally, without having to constantly keep the diary constantly checked, or having to do X things in hope something happen. :(

Just wanted to share this.

Redditors found a mod that may fix the problem (however leveling is also affected).

Supposedly using the save game editor (from Nexusmods) may also help. Haven’t tried myself…

(One reason I’m slightly skeptical is that they—supposedly—weren’t able to reproduce the bug with save files earlier.)

I don't know if this has been posted, but I noticed it's not listed on the main post as a possible fix. However it seems to have worked for a lot of people. I would suggest added it to the original post so people can find it easier.

http://www.reddit.co..._of_the_banter/

Disconnect your console from the internet (fixes both party banter and music bug), fast travel from the war room, and do not change party members from camp locations.

EDIT: Nevermind. It is on the main post. I'm dumb. Sorry, ignore me.

BANTER BUG

After all patches, still LITTLE TO NO BANTER...

What i have noticed is...at the ending of an act...sometimes a great many quests will update (ones that did not have a tick next to them...even as far back as Haven quests)..

Could this be the problem?!!!    The quests are not updating so the banter is not moving forward???

Please fix...I love DA and this bug is HORRIBLE!

I'm with everyone else. After all the patches, I can still go ludicrous amounts of time without getting any banter. I hope this gets addressed (again) because the banter in Inquisition is great and having to wait 20+ minutes to hear it is a real bummer :(

Approaching five months after release and I'm still lucky to get a dozen banters through a full play through.

I like to imagine that the Inquisitor's party members just *really* don't like one another. So the Inquisitor is forced to small awkward small talk in the mist of adventuring in an attempt to break the icy silence.

"So... Dorian. Tevinter huh? That's crazy man."

"Sera..... why's it Red Jenny? Why not Blue Jenny or Green Jenny?"

"Hey, Iron Bull, anyone ever tell you you're head's a bit... disproportionate?"

And the party members just loathe each other so much that NOBODY answers, and the horrible silence endures.

So, I timed it.

Half an hour spent in the Exalted Plains and ZERO party banter. This is not an unusual length of time to go without banter for me either. Half and hours, 30 minutes of wandering around all corners of the playable area collecting shards, closing rifts, killing Gurguts, completing quests, and nothing. Absolute silence.

I'm pleading now for the folks at Bioware to fix this issue, because it's really ruining my experience with the game. The companions are one of the biggest aspects of Inquisition, indeed of any Bioware game, and to have them not talking to each other is a huge issue.

So apparently party banter is using the same RNG system as loot. Go figure.

I posted a new party banter guide: http://forum.bioware...y-banter-guide/

This one hasn't been updated in a while, and from my own gaming experience, I feel there's other factors to take into account as to why people might not be hearing banter.

I also timed my banter, and I've had nothing for the past hour in Western Approach.

I get banter once every few hours... I thought I was not hittting the location triggers so I ran around randomly a lot, but I heard they're supposed to trigger every 15 minutes. They're not triggering! I've timed it without pausing or teleporting to camp.

Could someone please fix this? The issue has been going on since the game released!

I posted this in the other banter thread, but - does Bioware know about the no banter in the Western Approach problem, or does that work fine on their end too? Or is the Western Approach issue only for some players?
