I posted this in the other banter thread, but - does Bioware know about the no banter in the Western Approach problem, or does that work fine on their end too? Or is the Western Approach issue only for some players?

Good question if BW knows about it - they should, shouldn't they? The WA banter bug seems to be the easiest to reproduce for a lot of people. I have seen some people claiming that they got banter in the WA but the WA has a lot of scripted conversations so maybe people confuse the two. There may be some areas in WA where banter does work, but I haven't found any. There was someone claiming they had banter in the Still Ruins but that's not the WA map anyway.

Back when the CE banter trigger was working I ran around in WA and tried to trigger banter everywhere, to no avail, even when it was working fine everywhere else.

Maybe someone should ask the BW team on twitter?

I also timed my banter, and I've had nothing for the past hour in Western Approach.

I get banter once every few hours... I thought I was not hittting the location triggers so I ran around randomly a lot, but I heard they're supposed to trigger every 15 minutes. They're not triggering! I've timed it without pausing or teleporting to camp.

Have you tried other locations? The Western Approach is reported to be completely bugged with no banter happening there at all. I get banter every 15 minutes in my games, but nothing at the Western Approach.

I've actually had banter in the Western Approach. I rarely get banter (I heard nothing in the Forgotten Oasis, for example, and only one banter in the Hinterlands) but it did work in the WA for me,and yes, it was banter and not location specific comments. So, perhaps it's not a universal issue?

That's so weird.

Lately, it seems that the only time I get banter is immediately after combat. In zones that I've cleared and therefore have no combat: nothing.

No banter still after all the updates. Nice going.

That's so weird.

Banter can (and does) fire in the Western Approach.

It almost never will, however (there's something that keeps it from working right most of the time).

I'm sure BioWare is aware of it; there's no indication they'll ever do anything about it (there may even be some reason for it). It doesn't lead to any lost banter or anything, so it can't really be a huge concern.

Have you tried shooting critters?

I haven't noticed any difference in behavior since they removed most of the randomness. Save/load is the banter killer (I wish they would halve the minimum for the first timer, since it always inits on load).

I had a working Banter until Patch 5. Not working ever since.

I've had banter in the Western Approach, but it's extremely spotty and tends to only occur in certain areas.

I don't get banter in the Western Approach. I get the quest dialogue and location specific stuff, but normal banter doesn't fire.

And that's normal.

Banter can fire there. But like I said, it almost never will.

It's "normal" in that something that's supposed to work, doesn't?

It's not a major issue in that it doesn't stop players from progressing in the game. But from my understanding, it is an area where banter is supposed to happen. And given that you can spend hours in any given area, and banter, when working properly, fires every 15 minutes - I might not be "missing" banter in that any dialogue I don't hear could be triggered at another location, but I am missing banter in that for every 15 minutes I spend there that's one more banter dialogue that I'm not hearing.

That means Bull's and Dorian's relationship is not progressing. I'm not getting anything from Blackwall about his feelings for Josphene. If I want those things to trigger in game, I have to go through the dialogue. The Western Approach is preventing me from going through and learning about character arcs and relationships. Meaning, that I have to hope I can make up the time I spend there and get that banter to trigger in the amount of time I spend in other areas of the game. Meaning that while in the Western Approach every 15 minutes is wasted in terms of progressing banter. And by the end of the game, I might not have gotten those character arcs or relationships to trigger.

Bioware might not see that as a problem, but I do.

havent played the game for months since I completed it the first time, decided to go again, hoping there would be less glitches but whaddaya know, the party banter bug is still there, there is now a bug where birds just sit mid-air doing nothing and more than once when you talk to npc's but not in a cutscene they seem to be possessed by the spirit of everlasting jump. I love bioware games but man why do they have to be so buggy?

Quit playing back in early January because of this glitch. Quit again after the Jan. 20 patch because it still wasn't fixed for me, despite a fix being suggested in the patch notes  Just picked up up again and have been in the Western Approach for 3 hours with no party banter (which I know is a common place for the glitch but ce la vie). This game would be so great if I could just learn anything about my party. Right now I have zero attachment to them except Varric and Dorian (because of Dragon Age 2 and his questline respectively). They aren't characters; they are tools to complete combat. So bummed out.

I really want to like this game but it's so hard when party members have always been my favourite part of Dragon Age. I still remember specific banter from the first two games. Even though this game has a strong story I'm not sure I can finish it. =(

Okay. I'll end my whiny rant here. I guess I can always go play Mass Effect again.

Funny thing, a friend has this game with patch 2.5 I think. Cracked version and the banter works pretty often. I got game fully updated and I am kinda disapointed. Waste of money in a broken game :[.

Has this issue gotten fixed yet? It severely reduced my enjoyment of the game before, and none of the fixes in this thread worked for me (I had both almost no banter, and also music would only play for like 5 seconds when I entered zones/areas instead of for their full duration).

If you play on PC, use cheat engine to trigger them. I think you're out of luck otherwise.
