Here on the official forums I dare say it'll be far more difficult to find actively posting players who have used a default state, really.

Alright, I'm going to take a weird guess. My friend doesn't quick save, and she doesn't have the ambient dialogue problem. I doubt it's related, but it's the only thing I can think of that we do differently.

@JeffZero
I agree. Figured I'd ask though. I figured it might rule out the possibility of it being a dragon age keep related issue if we had someone who has used it. I won't be able to run a test on it for a few days (other obligations) but if someone had already done a run through it would quickly eliminate that as a possible cause.

I wasn't even aware that could be disabled, haha. You're talking about what is also known as autosave, right?

Also just came out of a discussion earlier in this thread, where people thought maybe their choices in the keep were influencing whether they picked up the bug or not ![]()

I think he may be talking about the PC function where you can press F5 in order to do a quick save.

Actually I did! I play with the default world state simply because I had invested too many hours to start over when I noticed that it didn't import.
Now I too have the banter issue, I've played 57hours so far (my first playthru still) and I got roughly 15 banter max! It's just seem so little and defy the point of having a party at all. They are just like mindless zombies following me around.
If it is any help to the dev: Location doesn't fix the issue, I'm on PC and from europe, I've also installed the english voice pack.

Ahh, OK.
And sorry I'm not replying to some other posts right now but my phone is acting up at the moment.

Like others have reported, I'm having the same issue.
Platform: PC
World State: Custom
Quicksave (F5) Use: yes, frequently
To me, it seems to be based on party composition AND region.
- Blackwell, Solas, Varric: abundant banter in the Hinterlands, the Storm Coast, and Crestwood, zilch in the Western Approaches
- Cassandra, Vivienne, Sera: sparse banter in the Western Approaches, zilch anywhere else
- Blackwell, Cassandra, and Vivienne: nothing anywhere
- Blackwell, Iron Bull, Dorian: nothing in Hinterlands, but that's the only place I took them
- Blackwell, Varric, Dorian: abundant banter in the Hinterlands, the Storm Coast, and Crestwood, zilch in the Western Approaches
- Cassandra, Dorian, Sera: zilch
- Cassandra, Varric, Dorian: zilch... except *maybe* once in a Hinterland camp. It was after a rather heated discussion they had about a secret ally. I could have sworn that Varric poked Cassandra, Cassandra shoved Varric, and then neither of them faced the other. It was hysterical, but it might have been a random fluke, the result of ambient animations and proximity.

Alright, clocked in another couple of hours of gameplay.
I spent one hour at the Storm Coast. 30 minutes with Blackwall, Bull and Sera. No banter. Then switched for Cass, Viv and Varric. I got one banter between Cass and Viv. Then I went to the Hinterlands and had Bull, Sera and Solas (really trying to trigger the so-called hilarious banter between Bull and Sera if you couldn't tell!). Within 5 minutes there was banter between Bull and Solas. Then straight after Bull and Sera. 30 minutes later I got the famous "mayhem" banter between the two. Four in one play session. I feel like a spoiled girl right now. Really hoping the frequency stays put but probably just an anamoly.

Oh, it is a bug? I assumed that there was just very little banter. Could play for hours and hours without hearing my companions say anything outside of combat lines. All sad now, seems like I missed out on a lot of character interaction : (

I have a strange version of this bug - there is loads of banter in my game (PS4), but simply none between Solas and Cole. I've spent a dozen or so hours with the two of them in the party and I've been consciously looking out for their first banter, but it hasn't triggered yet (travelling with them in the Hinterlands, Forbidden Oasis, Storm Coast and Fallow Mire). All the other companions banter every 20 minutes or so. Solas and Cole speak a lot with everyone else in the party, just never with each other. When I took out an incomplete party with only the two of them, they still didn't speak, though Cole spouted the occasional barmy one-liner every so often (which makes me wonder if that is special 'solo banter' that the game is triggering instead). Solas did not have any of these one-liners.
Just trying to be as specific as possible in case any of that points to any problem in particular.

Uhh i might have this too, played 34~ hours, not experienced much banter, a little from time to time. I did have thoughts that things are pretty quiet, but i thought it was normal.
Oh, well... i suppose i will pay extra attention to it now. Maybe it is fine, maybe not.
Solas and Cole are having a good deal of banter in Crestwood for me.

Have any of you tried reinstalling the game entirely? Not just repairing it on origin?
I just tried to repair and got one banter between Cole and Dorian in Western Approach, but that's it. I have tried all kinds of companion variations, didn't really see a noticeable difference.

Yeah, several of us, on multiple platforms. Thanks for the suggestion though.

60 hour playthrough. I went very long stints in silence which was very lonely. The banter I did hear was awesome though! But I feel like I'm missing such an important part of the game -- a part from cutscenes at Skyhold etc. I didn't get much of an idea of who gets on well with who and so on, which is a real shame as I love seeing how companions get along. Going to have to youtube banter at some point if this doesn't fixed soon, it does sound like a nightmare to sort out though.
Hopping to camps often made me get banter, as did ending a side quest like closing a rift or something and sometimes just standing still triggered some stuff. But honestly it was so damned sparse and quiet. I wanted Bull, Sera and Dorian to be my main party but they never talked so ended up with Blackwall, Dorian and Varric as they seemed relatively chatty for me. I even got one banter where Quisi could join in with them. There should have been a lot more, though.
Hope the devs fix it soon. I am sorting out the Keep now for my second playthrough but the areas are a grind as is without it being damned silent as I trek through it all.
Thanks for making this thread OP!

I played a handful of hours last night on the xbox one. I was getting A LOT of banter compared to what I remember from my playthrough on the PC (not that I think the platform matters).
I think party combination has a great deal to do with it. On my near silent PC playthrough I played a lot with Cass, Iron Bull and Dorian. While Cass and Iron Bull had a few memorable exchanges, I cannot remember much between the others. Fast forward to last night, I had Sera, Vivienne and Cass. Because Sera and Vivienne seem to have a general dislike for each other, they were constantly (wonderfully) bitching at each other about every 20-30 minutes. I think that they just don't have many exchanges between certain characters and if you happen to be running said characters, you will get near zero banter. Curiously I don't think Cassandra said a word last night to her companions.
I mostly played in the Hinterlands last night.

Unfortunately, after a great deal of playtesting, for myself at least there are several companions who have never had banter with anyone else despite being in plenty of combinations for several hours. It's possible that this is some hellish scripting priority bug which makes certain groupings far more likely to trigger anything than others but then scrambles those groupings between players or something, though maybe.I played a handful of hours last night on the xbox one. Yeah, I think one thing I'm prepared to say with relative certainty is that the "single companion comments on specifically-environmental thing" system is intact for most of us. What is broken is the banter between companions.
Yes, I don't have any issue with the environement comments but a little to no banter at all. It's really sad for a game I've played for +50h and counting.
I hope this will be addressed with the same urgency than the other issue.

For me it's the opposite. The most banter I get is with Cassandra. Doesn't matter who I pair with her, they will engage with her the most. Dorian would be the second most chatty for me... not that that's saying much since they rarely talk anyway.

After I got Skyhold I went out and had about 7 conversations in like less than 30 minutes. But still no possibility for my hero to participate in the dialog.

A friend pointed out to me, and I can't believe I hadn't noticed, but the characters rarely talk during battle either. I've heard, for example, that Blackwall apparently says the same thing as Garrus when he takes down an enemy, but for me they're mostly silent except when somebody is about to die ("Help Solas!"). I wonder if this is connected?

They are supposed to talk during combat?! I only have them ask for help and that's it!
