Bump. Same issue.
I saw in the other thread that you had better luck in new regions. Hopefully that helps to resolve the issue for you or at least lessen it! Unfortunately that doesn't appear to be universal. No one has ever said a thing in hours of play time at the Forbidden Oasis, Western Approach, or the unlocked-just-last-night Exalted Plains. I've spent like six hours playtesting for workarounds now and nothing has worked. If anything I've had marginally better luck at early regions. D:

After that first initial participation discussion that seems to pop shortly after getting into the Hinterlands, I have heard very few instances of banter outside of the party members occasionally chiming in about a note or discovery. I know it exists, as I've seen it in videos and read other people's accounts of it, and the fact that they continue to remain silent makes me want to scream at them. "DON'T YOU KNOW YOU SHOULD BE TALKING GUYS?!?! TALK, YOU BLASTED FOOLS. ENTERTAIN MEH NAO!" Alas, I wait and hope for the fix.

Cool, I'll check it out once I get back to the game. Gonna keep an ear out for when the first patch is out and boot it back up then.

Created an account just to say I'm having this issue too! On PS4. When I first got to the Hinterlands, I got maybe 2-3 banters with Solas/Cassandra/Varric, but after that it has slowed to a crawl. No improvement in other zones or after fast travel. And I never use the mounts. After about 30 hours, I have probably heard... 6-8 banters? And some people like Bull and Sera have never spoken, despite the fact that I've heard they're really chatty in other people's games. It's bumming me out.
I'm restarting tonight to see if it fixes the problem. I hate to give up all my progress but I love banter and not having any is really hurting the game for me. I really hope Bioware can find a fix for this, it's my favorite part of the series ![]()

Yeah, that must be a bug. My party members will not shut the *bleep* up.
If that's how it's supposed to be, then mine is definitely bugged too.
They also stopped commenting about camp-spots being a good place to rest.

Has anyone gotten a reply from anyone at Bioware on this issue? Or any info on how banters are supposed to trigger?

Hours of game play and very little dialog. Glad I saw this post...since I didn't realize it was a bug. I was considering trying solo since I wasn't missing much. Prior versions of the game it was the opposite. I was always panicked about conversations I might be missing. It made picking the party of tough call, because they all had great dialog. On a PC btw

Although when I consider how much time I have now spent testing different things to try to fix this... I guess that is not so drastic as it sounds, haha.

Why do you think this is a "bug"?. It seems to just be the way it was designed. I just finished an 80+ hour playthrough and my banter was VERY sparing. I attributed it to the notion that they did not want them to repeat so they used them ultra sparingly. I would actually prefer they banter more often (even if I get repeat banter).
I sure do hope they "up" the frequency of these exchanges, as they are what separate this from Skyrim.

Don't think the horse plays into it. I rarely (like almost never) used a horse in my first playthrough, and my companions were very shy rarely saying anything.

I'm gonna try to keep this bumped as well because I am in the same boat. The devs REALLY need to see this.
I haven't played since acquiring Skyhold, and since some people have been saying the banter frequency picks up from there, I will test this out and report back.

Because some people have been saying that their companions banter ALL the time, so there's gotta be a lot of material.

ive noticed sometimes that the sound gets real quiet.. combat doesnt seem to sound correctly, hardly any music, etc.. when i come across this, i simply hit start and then go back to the game.. it suddenly starts working as normal again.. and the banter, etc seems to work as expected. not sure if it will work with the banter, but it might help. did for me anyway.

Because there is written and recorded evidence of at least some players having parties that are as talkative, if not more so, with one-another as with previous titles.

I'd recommend also hitting up this thread on Answers HQ:

(Just to increase chances of it being seen and the volume of it. I know Answers HQ gets a lot of visibility from more people than just BioWare/DA staff to help collate the data)

This is also hapening to me. A shame, since party banter has always been one of my favorite parts of the franchise. 30 hours in and I've had it occur maybe a half dozen times. I hope they manage to resolve it.

Alright, I posted a reply in that thread Allan suggested we check out. If anyone else is up to dedicated a few moments of their time toward logging into their Origin accounts and backing me up, I believe it will only serve to promote awareness of the bug.
Here's what I said:
Hi, littlebrightp. This appears to be a far more widespread problem than it may originally have appeared. People on the official forums are oftentimes not reporting it because they're making the assumption, given what they've experienced after (in some cases) completing the entire game, that there simply is not practically any "banter" in Dragon Age: Inquisition at all. This is (thankfully) quite erroneous, as I have discovered via written accounts of copious volumes of companion banter whilst other players have explored the field, as well as user-uploaded gameplay videos expressly detailing all those myriad encounters which many fans such as myself are missing out on entirely.
This is the thread I started on BioWare's forums this morning:
http://forum.bioware...are-reportin...
Note the number of people not only to have confirmed they're having this issue but also to have stated that they didn't know what they were missing out on and were prepared to deem the lack of banter a flaw of the game as opposed to its misfired coding. Ultimately I am certainly glad to hear that some players are wandering around with chatty companions, but nothing on my end has changed the fact that in 51 hours, spanning all party members across at least six regions of the game's world, I've had perhaps six or seven instances of party members conversing with one-another. The same can be said for many other players, although some have reported the scripting error "seemingly fixing itself" eventually. None such luck here. The bug appears to span multiple platforms.
A quick recap for BioWare employees: "party banter" -- AKA companions conversing with one-another in the field -- is exceptionally rare for an apparently-considerable number of players across all platforms, regardless of where we are, what we're doing, how far into the game we are, who we're with, or any other quickly discernible variable. This is confirmed not to be our personal objective opinions on how much is "a lot" because we have seen videos of other players whose levels of party interaction have been magnitudes far, far greater than what we've experienced.
I have decided to halt my progress on what is otherwise a fantastic game because this element of the Dragon Age series is a personal favorite of mine. I play BioWare's games (and indeed, most games I dabble in at large) for the rich storytelling that is made possible by talented authors coming together to weave exceptional stories into terrific characters. This bug disallows me from hearing much of that content and is essentially a game-breaker for me until it's resolved.
Thanks for your consideration and congratulations on a stellar Dragon Age: Inquisition.
