WOA ok guys I don't know if this is a fluke and I'm scared it will never happen again, but I literally just got 6 banters in one hour and a half. SIX.

Here's all I did:

I was in the Hissing Wastes, with Solas, Blackwall, and Dorian.Got banters for Solas-Dorian, Dorian-Blackwall, and Blackwall-Solas, including a romance specific one and obvious story progression specific ones.

I mounted a horse, dismounted, and rested in the tent. I did the "setting up camps" mission, so every area I went was new. Every time I set up camp, I rested in it.

I don't know if that will help any of you, or if this will be repeatable....but man. It is night and day how it feels when they actually talk. I know how all three feel about each other now, for example, and an idea of the conflicts they have with each other. It's blowing my mind.

I just tried this, in the Hinterlands and it worked.  Here's what I did:

I hit up every camp in no particular order.  At each camp I mounted, dismounted and rested.  To be thorough, I did all the camps in the area.

As of 11:01pm mountain time (so top of the hour,) I was done with the quick travel and did my last mount/rest at the camp near the Farms and waiting.   I made sure I wasn't near the sounds of horses ;)  and I made sure that no NPCs could randomly try to talk to me.  I did jog around and grab some elfroot though, so I wasn't just standing the whole time.

At 11:02pm, Dorian and Blackwall started snarking at each other.  At 11:03pm, Dorian made a comment about mages in the Hinterlands.

At 11:11pm, Dorian and Blackwall started bantering again.

I'll let you guys know if it works for longer game time, or if you need to do this every time to get the banter going.  However, please try Veeia's trick, it's actually working so far.   :D

Veeia, put your idea in into this thread as well.  http://answers.ea.co...ght/true/page/4

After starting a new game, playing through the prologue, and then at the first opportunity traveling back and forth several times between the first camp in the Hinterlands and Haven (as suggested by another commenter), I have noticed that party banter seems more frequent than in my first playthrough. I'd be very wary of drawing any conclusions just yet (correlation != causation, small sample size, etc.), so take my experiences for what they're worth.

Will do!  It's a very painless trick.  I'm beginning to suspect that the mounts are somehow screwing with the banter in the game.  Well, off to reload my save.  If I get something in about 15 minutes, I know it worked for a long term solution.  If not, I'll repeat some of the steps (not mounting, but resting, ect) and keep you guys posted.

Oh and I wanted to mention that I'm doing this with my main character, and not a test dummy. ;)

Still we should not have to go threw all that to hear banter, hope they fix it soon, I have not heard much a all and am hearing how few ppl are hearing these awesome conversations. I beat the main story so everyone is quiet as a mouse at the skyhold

Ok, I've unlocked all the camps in a few areas too, so I'll try the fix out now.  Cassandra, Solas and Varric never speak to each other at all in my game, so I'll swap over to them and see if someone starts chatting.  I'll let you know if anything happens.  :)

Keep the data coming.  It'd be useful to know if only some (or one!) of those steps listed is necessary, because it would really isolate what systems can remedy this, and by extension what systems are affected by the various work arounds.

I'm testing this with just one single camp atm to narrow it down, will report back.

Oh, guys, to clarify...what I did was not after I unlocked all the camps. It was during while I was unlocking them...which I was specifying so people knew I was always going into new areas, if that's a trigger.

I didn't have to unlock them all first. It just seems like resting at a camp + dismount was enough to trigger the banter to come back so I was going from camp to camp to test it. Tried this again at the Exalted Plains for an hour (which I already had mostly unlocked), and wasn't quite as successful, but I still got two banters + a Varric comment on the scenery, which was more than before. So!!!! (WAs surprised about that though, I was using a new party configuration with supposedly chatty people - Sera, Varric, IB)

I'll post it in the other thread if  it's confirmed we did similar things, Natashina! Don't want to confuse people. Do you mean you were travelling around with your party from camp to camp, doing the resting + dismount/mount and it didn't trigger banter for you until after all the camps were done? Because I didn't need to do that much.

Either way it seems like dismount + rest seems to be a good step in the right direction. Glad you got banter!! :DDD

Huh, I thought this was intentional honestly so it'd be more atmospheric exploring the world, but yeah I've noticed not a lot of bantering, and then in some zones I'll get 2-3 in 15 minutes or so (Forbidden Oasis seemed to be working properly).

I'm at my parents for Thanksgiving but I'll test above method Friday when I get home.

Luckily I'm planning to play this game 2904 times. :P

Results! Traveled to the Hinterlands, Upper Lake Camp to be exact, brought Blackwall, Dorian, and IB who have been in my party for a dozen hours without speaking. I quick traveled there from Skyhold, immediately rested and stood in the water and idled.

Bam, banter within less than a minute.

Also affected by this problem - around thirty hours in and had maybe seven banters in all that time. Really disappointing! Hope this gets fixed soon.

I'm about to play normally for a few hours so I'll come back here when I'm done to report on whether this works with extended play, but that was legitimately the first thing my companions said to each other in probably twelve hours or so. Fingers crossed!

It would be so helpful if we knew how the triggers work, otherwise it's hard to do any proper testing. For instance, does resting makes the scripts run from beginning and re-check all the conditions? Is it same as reloading a save? I ask this because in my game, it's repeated loading and fast-travelling that fixed the problem, at least temporarily. Mounts make no difference, because I haven't been using mounts since 10 hours ago and still managed to get frequent banters if I tried hard enough.

Ok, I've just had the most bizarre thing happen.  It's so weird in fact I don't know what the hell it is.  I tried the fix 10 minutes ago and although it's too early I suppose to say that anything has worked or not worked on that end.  However while wandering through the Hinterlands, the background music cut out and I started to hear almost out of earshot some mumblings in the headphones.  Anyway I wondered if this was banter playing (although nothing was flagged on the portraits) but just coming through very softly so I stopped in different places and reorientated my characters to see if the sound would come through more clearly.  It seems to be a male voice in a non English language, it's very soft and barely audible unless you listen and look for it.

I can't make head nor tail of this but it's weird and I've never heard it previously but then again if you were playing normally I don't think you would notice it.  Anyway I don't know if it's related to our issues but it definitely odd and I can't imagine it being a feature deliberately placed there.  Let me know if anyone else gets this or I'm calling poltergeist in the game!

Edit - I haven't got a clue how to record this but I'll try and find a way, so I can show you that I'm not completely crazy.

Enemy mages do this. Was one sort of nearby?

I've had this a few times too and I chalked it up to the Venatori mobs that were near. Maybe that was it?

I have the issue as well, 51 Hours into the game, I get a banter once every 2-3 hours if lucky, I used to get them more frequently. I'm going to try a new game and see if anything changes. Somewhat saddened but i'll be able to try a new class and new party composition. Maybe i'll be able to play without Varric...

I get banter here and there, but not much.

When I saw "silence glitch" I was thinking of this glitch where there's dialogue happening but the screen just stays on the other person instead of switching back to my inquisitor for a reply wheel. Then I have to mash buttons to force it to move on, which apparently skips a bunch of dialogue. It's a little annoying. I'm on PS4.

This happened a lot with Stroud when he met up with me and Hawke.

I don't know, I'll look for mobs somewhere.  There was a very dead bear but I hadn't seen anyone else around.

Edit - no enemies anywhere that could be making the noise.  Just a couple of blue wildlife dots and no red even on the borders of the mini map flagging a potential encounter.  I don't know how to post the video that I captured on fraps, if anyone knows please let me know so others can say if they are getting something similar.  Anyway then I exited and restarted the game and the sound had disappeared and the music returned.

PC. I've heard my companions banter maybe half a dozen times. I'm on my second playthrough now, moving out of the Hinterlands. Haven't heard it once. I also rarely get music in zones.

What you're describing sounds familiar to me, though. I've heard it lots of times, and usually there's enemies around. Male voice, kinda deep, mumbling, sounds like he's doing some kind of ritual.

If you wait a minute or two it will progress naturally. Not ideal but you won't miss dialogue.

Tried mounting and unmounting, resting, traveling from Skyhold, changing mounts, changing party members, changing zones, reloading, reinstalling, repairing. So far each of these has manged to force at least one conversation, but usually only one, or at most two before everyone goes silent again. Otherwise, without actively trying, it's complete silence for hours.
