so after walking around the hissing wastes for about a half hour in complete silence, I fast traveled to one of my unlocked camps, mounted and then dismounted and rested, and about a minute after that sera and dorian started talking

I'm hopeful...?  x.x  kinda sucks if that's temporary though.  buuut I'll update if it holds up.

well in the past hour-ish of running around the hissing wastes since doing this, I've heard 5 banters in my party, which is probably more than I'd heard in hours prior to this.

not sure if this is something that works even if you've closed the game and reopened it later or no.

I've noticed that when I deliberately pick a party composition I haven't really used before I get a short flurry of banters, but after that it goes quiet again.

Same "problem"

I'm on PC and have like 70 + hours and it is rarely i hear anything from my companions, and when i do it is mostly because they comment on something in the world and not just because they have random conversation. Other than that, fantastic game BioWare!

So, yesterday I created a new character to see if the bug persisted.

The first to hours in the Hinterlands I had like four banters between Cass and Varric.
I saved the game and went to sleep. Today they are all silent. I tried both the Haven-Hinterlands-Haven-Hinterlands and FT-mount-dismount-rest fix attemps. They are still silent as a grave.

For the record, I'm on ps4.

Any suggestions?

I had quite a little bit of banter at the start in the Hinterlands and then it became very irregular. I've went 25/30 hours with rare banter and it's awful realising how much I've missed in character development. I played for 5 hours in Western Approach last night and didn't get a single party banter unless it was triggered by something, no conversations.

Some banter videos are starting to pop up on Youtube, and hearing how amazing some of the stuff that's in the game and not used is just making it even more upsetting. The Dorian and Cole one is amazing, yet I ran around for hours with those two and they never even acknowledged that each other existed.

I must say that the party banter in my playthrough is also very sparse. I get it maybe once or twice per hour when I am in the "field".

I'm about 75 hours in at this point, and party banter has been scarce to the point where I have to stop everything I'm doing whenever someone speaks up (I don't want to miss a single word). Spent nearly 6hrs in the Emerald Graves, I think I ended up with two exchanges between members.

Party makeup (most often) - Dorian, Cassandra, Vivienne. I've swapped Varric, Solas, Cole, and Bull in and out of the group as well, just to see if there's any difference. Nothing.

Keep the data coming.  It'd be useful to know if only some (or one!) of those steps listed is necessary, because it would really isolate what systems can remedy this, and by extension what systems are affected by the various work arounds.

There is a reddit thread as well in addition to this one and EA support one: http://www.reddit.co...re_affected_by/ it has 108 replies so far.

This issue seems to be more common than I iniatially thought .

Unfortunately I'm experiencing the same bug and have been trying to find a workaround or solution.

I've tried deleting and reinstalling DAI's gamedata but it didn't work. Tried reverting to an older save (prologue) and play from then on but the same bug showed up. The Haven-Hinterlands-Rest-Mounting/Dismounting tricks trigger 1-2 party banters in an hour, but nothing after that. Starting a completely new game ends in the same result, with banter dying out as I get to the Hinterlands.

I'll keep 'testing', because playing on seems like a waste at this point. Loving the game, but this gets in the way of fully enjoying it. For reference: Playing on my Ps4, Deluxe Edition on disc.

Something I was wondering is if the online connection could have any influence? I know some games (The latest Assassins Creed) experience problems due to connectivity issues. Will try some things out.

Made an account so I can report on this for PS4. In my first playthrough there was next to no banter, but I didnt really notice it because I thought thats just how it was. Now on my second playthrough it's glaringly obvious. First trip to the Hinterlands, for the first quest and it was constant chatter, but now that I returned to the Hinterlands: nothing. I've been walking around for about 40 minutes and the only speech I heard was my MC commenting on a house. It makes me sad :(

Omg I thought it was how the game works XD Comparing to DA2 where nobody shut up, I was like huh this is the quietest Dragon Age game I'll ever play in my life. Then my friend who was on the PS3 said they talked FOREVER and I'm like WHUT

I was playing for 12 hours yesterday and I can only remember Vivienne and Sera talking like TWICE at a camp and that's about it. :(

I'm on the PC, with digital deluxe.

At this point I think it's safe to conclude it's affecting a fair number of people (though thanks for the heads up) :)

I've had a few amusing dialogues. Cole and sera is good.

Maybe I should stop swapping parties?

In an 80 hour game, I think I heard the following:

2 banters between Solas and Sera

2 banters between Iron Bull and Vivienne

1 banter between Iron Bull and Blackwall

3 banters between Cassandra and Varric

2 banters between Iron Bull and Sera

3 banters between Sera and Cassandra

1 banter between Solas and Cassandra

I don't recall any others. Even if I'm missing a few, that's fewer than 20 banters over 80+ hours. 1 banter every four hours is not the way it's supposed to be.

I'm on PC, Windows 7, with the Digital Deluxe edition, which I preloaded.

I very rarely use a mount.

I also have the issue with missing banter. But it always occurs with other soundglitches in the mix. For example missing background music during exploration and foodsteps that sound chopped off or not played at all or only extremly silent (footsteps on wood and ladder). Also some sounds come out wrong from time to time. Best example for this are smithing sounds in Haven where the tune is completly wrong (happens a lot when i leave the store in the smith at haven). Maybe wrong sound mix? But the sounds are normally not there when i just stand in the smithy. I alsow have sound issues with hall in caves or hall aplied wrongly outdors.

I have a hunch... and if i´m right this this seems a lot like audio related issue that result out of playback/sound-mix issues (wrong mix setup, playback does not start correctly because of performance stutter) or performance/framerate (playback does not start correctly because of performeance caused fps stutter ) issues. Soundsource wrongly positioned?

I play on PC and use the theater sound setup with G35 Logitech headphones. Will have to turn down my graphic settings to test this out later this afternoon. I will also try out different sound setting.

Well, I'm sorry to report that no amount of jumping on or off horses and resting has made any difference to my party.  Solas, Varric and Cassandra still have absolutely nothing to say to each other outside of a mention of a plot related (spoiler free) big bad.  I did get some more weird voice but I don't know what that's about.

The only thing that may be interesting is that mounting/dismounting and resting forced the game to finalize some quests that had been completed days ago but wouldn't register as finished.  I don't know if that's relevant to anything.

Still it wasn't a total loss, I got bored and went and killed my first dragon and that was very, very cool.  :)

Same issue for me. I got exactly one party banter in three hours yesterday, and it was with a party that I had never taken anywhere together before. I've noticed it out in the wild in general when I'm looking for crafting materials, etc, but it was particularly horrendous when I was in Valammar (which, ironically, is also apparently the location of another major bug). I ran around that area for hours trying to figure out where I was supposed to go thanks to said bug, and got only one party banter when I first came in, and then literally nothing again after that.

I'll get maybe one or two per each trip out for crafting materials, which amounts to maybe one per hour at this rate.

When I first started the game, the characters were incredibly chatty. Now I've rested, mounted, dismounted, etc, and it seems to remain the same--silent.

And I had no idea there were ones you could participate in, because not a single one has ever showed up for me and I've logged 60+ hours of gameplay.

Hi There.

I have this issue too.

I thought at first that there was just barely any chat, or that my party was made up wrong.

I have played 20+ hours and have had maybe 4 instances where the party talk to each other.

Really sad :(

The only way they talk is if I warp back to a captured camp, they will say one line.

The battle noises etc will dissapear.

They come back when I teleport.

agreed and not only combat sound, ambient music (background music) vanishes, footsteps vanish when you are on a ladder or on sound weird/wrongly mixed, etc.

From what I can gather after reading everyone's posts and my own testing it seems that sound related issues and timing seem to be the common denominator. Almost everyone is experiencing some issues with background sounds/music/ambient noise in some form or another and having trouble triggering party banter.

I'm assuming party banter is triggered in a few ways; by reaching certain areas, performing certain actions and 'random' party banter that seems to be time-based (ergo; you're suppose to get a party banter to trigger when roaming about every X minutes). If working by this assumption it's likely that there seems to be something off with the way the game tracks time and the passing thereof.

This is supported by the claims that quests don't always show 'completed' immediately after completing them, certain audio not triggering or triggering later (combat music, area music, effects, ambient sounds etc,etc.). It seems the game is 'late' to respond, thus missing certain triggers unless we manually 'reset' it. We do so via the 'Haven-Hinterlandsx2-Mount/Unmount-rest'  tricks. This temporarily works.

Unfortunately this reset only works for a bit, till the game goes back to tracking the 'wrong' time, being late again. This is supported by the fact that our workaround doesn't last and needs to be repeated with each start up/load/new area. Every time the game loads up something new, it 'forgets' the timetable we reset it to and goes back to being late.

At least, that's my theory, from what I gathered here. Problem could be in the way the game tracks time and triggers internally.
