I'm not getting much banter here either, I can spend and hour in an area sometimes and nothing...sometimes more.  :pinched:

I'm trying the recommended temporary fixes/triggers that other have suggested...we'll see how that goes.

Hopefully it gets fixed because I want some of this interactive dialogue people keep talking about, I've only run into it in a couple of fixed/predetermined situations so far.

Also want to add the sound goes missing alot of the time.

The battle noises etc will dissapear.

They come back when I teleport.

Yeah I get that issue too, although mine usually come back when I reopen and close my radial menu. opening sometimes seems to cause certain sounds to disappear.

EDIT:

I ended up only sticking around 50 minutes, but I did end up getting some dialogue.  First after trying suggested fix, nothing much happened in first few moments so I jumped to a few other camps and 10 minutes in one of them triggered a banter between Cole and Solas.  I then wandered around for a bit doing some quests, killing some baddies and about 40 minutes later I got a second lot of dialogue with Sera and Solas.  Cole also had a couple of area specific comments to say, if that is at all relevant.

Same issue here, seems to be random. I really hope they fix this, I've stopped playing until they do.

I have the same problem, I heard only a few banters during my playthrough, none of them were interactive. After reading the theories, I tried the fast travel trick with a new character. Started in Haven, fast traveled to the first camp in the Hinterlands, back to Haven, back to the camp. Then I let the game run in the background for an hour, the party remained idle in camp.

If the starting point of the experiment is 0:00, I heard the first banter (Varric and Cass) at 0:05, followed by Varric and Solas at 0:21, a third one appeared at 0:31 (Varric and Solas again). Then silence descended again.

I haven't even been near the horse farm, so that can't be the (only) problem.

To add my playing experience to the time theory above: During my first playthrough some dialogues in Skyhold weren't triggered properly. Some Conversations about an earlier part of the mainquest did not appear until I completed the ball, and so on. I'm also pretty sure that I missed or couldn't access some of the companion's content in Skyhold. I can't be sure since I'm trying to avoid further spoilers, but the ratio felt off.

Music does not seem to be a problem in my game, but I can't hear many comments during combat, sometimes one or two sentences when the fight ends. Is combat generally quieter than in the first two games?

If it helps: I'm playing on PC, pre-ordered and pre-downloaded, installed the english voice pack.

My companions were chatty during the prologue, but since we got to Haven they've been stone silent. The one time I have seen a banter was when I loaded a save in the Hinterlands and Cass and Vivienne were already in the middle of an exchange, which (1) seems especially odd, since I'm pretty sure neither of them were talking when I saved, and (2) makes me feel like the party's talking behind my back now... I'm only about 8-9 hours into the game, so hoping there will be a fix before I miss too much more.

Playing on PS4, physical disc.

Same issue here, about 40 hours in and I've only heard about ten banters (2 or 3 in the Hinterlands, 2 in the Storm Coast, maybe 3 during Big Quests...). I didn't think to check if it was a problem until now, because I trusted the characters would chat during the important quests, but so far no luck. It felt like I was playing Skyrim and I'm incredibly disappointed. Like, I know this is no game-breaking glitch, but imo it's detracting from the story a great deal. So much that I'm actually considering stopping my walkthrough until the issue is fixed, because I feel like I haven't been playing Dragon Age at all!

I'm playing on PC, non-deluxe version.

Lots of testing while I was asleep. Such overtime! Much wow.

And the reports just keep piling in. I agree with Allan... I didn't want to make the statement myself because I'd rather not appear to anyone as though I'm inflating the numbers, but yikes, yes, I think it's fair to say a LOT of people are running into this.

Thus far I've only checked new BioWare posts; let me get some coffee started and I'll do a full read of what I missed.

I think I dreamt of party banter firing off regularly, by the way. That's kinda sad. ;)

55 hours on PS4 and it's like they all hate each other! I'm not sure whether to press on or quit until it's fixed.

Forgot to say - I uninstalled the game and I'm in the process of installing it again and trying my luck. I know a lot of people have already tried that but hey, I'm desperate. Will report back if there are any changes.

Btw, thank you JeffZero for creating this topic, or I would still be thinking my inquisition is just a bunch of antisocial douches refusing to interact.

Same here, fast travelling/loading would trigger around three banters then silence. Sometimes a forth after an hour.

Also having this issue, non-deluxe. Happened before getting a mount, only DLC is the flames mount and weapon,on PC non deluxe edition. 20+ hours on one playthrough, 45 on another, maybe ten banters overall. I really hope they fix this soon, though. I'm delaying playing and I'm going to restart when they do. It's not worth continuing to a silent party :(

OK, now I feel like I'm back in my QA testing days...

So I pulled out the character that is not getting much banter (the other character I'm playing seems to get a little more banter, but not nearly the levels that people claim).  I did:

1.  Brought Sera, Viv, Solas along, thought I would maximize chances

2.  Haven -> Hinterland -> Haven -> Hinterland

3.  Mounted, dismounted a horse

4.  Rested (start the stopwatch)

5.  Immediately upon resting, triggered banter between Sera and Vivian (yay I thought!)

6.  Stood in place in the camp.

7.  STRANGE OCCURRENCE: in minute 2 after resting, I saw one of the dudes in the camp race across the screen.  Not run, just move really quickly (like The Flash :P ).  Not sure if it has anything to do with the timer theory that was raised earlier.

8.  In minute 3 Sera + Solas had short banter (success I thought!  WRONG!)

9.  No banter for the next 35 minutes, until I stopped in frustration.  Here's what I did:

10.  At 14 mins, got bored, walked around

11.  At minute 18 - rested (but no mounted)

12.  STRANGE OCCURRENCE 2: Noticed that my mage's spells would flicker in and out.  Occasionally they would be greyed out (except for immolate, which makes sense since you can cast that without an enemy present), but occasionally they would be enabled.  When enabled, I can click on them to cast the spell (but on whom, who knows?).  This is while in camp, so no enemy present

13.  22:00 - Got bored, quick traveled to another camp

14.  24:00 - mounted / dismounted, rested some more

15.  STRANGE OCCURRENCE 3: My music also tends to cut in and out... occasionally there is a swelling music, then it will die down and I would hear only crickets (literally).  Noticed that sometimes upon resting, the music will swell again.  Goes to the theory that something is being reset when you rest.

16.  27:00 - fast travel to another camp, mount / dismount, rest - nada

17.  31:00 - fast travel to another camp, mount / dismount, rest - nada

18.  35:00 - Back to Haven, then to Hinterlands, mount / dismount, rest - nada

19: 40:00 - quit the game

So in 40 mins, I had 2 banters, all within the first 3 minutes.  Super frustrating and discouraging.

Really, it's only because we are passionate about the game that we are willing to do this level of testing, but this is getting ridiculous.

So is everyone experiencing no combat dialogue as well?

I noticed that during Sera's recruitment she has combat dialogue (no breeches, etc) but after that she's back to silence. Super weird.

My experience:

- ~75 hours playtime (I finished the campaign) and triggered MAYBE 15 banters, most of them with either Varric or Dorian in the party.

- No combat dialogue other than "X needs help!", "I'm falling back", etc.

- Some glitching/micro stuttering of the audio during conversations.

- At one point I got the dreaded "drums of Skyhold" bug, but it went away after a mission.

- I've never noticed music repeating, but sometimes there's very long stretches of silence.

Since some players have said they were able to play other's unaffected saves and trigger banter normally - while their own saves are affected - I wonder if this means that there's something wrong with the way our games are generating our saves to begin with?

Actually, Allan from BW tried this and I believe that affected saves when loaded on an unaffected person's game will somehow magically be able to banter as normal... very strange

Did he mention how long did he test this? Many players here can get normal banter sometimes, just very rare, like 6 within an hour then nothing for hours.

Don't think he mentioned, you can look up his post in this thread.... this is going to be a SUPER difficult bug to nail down cos it's would be really challenging to replicate and will take a while to verify that it has been completely fixed... worst kind of bugs.

I can quite confirm that if you have Sera in your party, your companions will talk to her most. Without her, there seems to be no party banter ever.

Once, the moment I load up my game in my camp, Cassandra was 'apologizing' to Sera in the most akwarded manner ever and it is so hilarious how Sera shot her down.

I am loving Sera now and is probably going to make her my romance (after deciding on Cullen, then Iron Bull then Solas then back to Cullen, then Josehphine and now her!).

I am also now using Sera, Cole and Iron Bull and both Cole and Iron Bull have 'insulted' Sera (like Solas and Cassandra) and the one with Cole was especially hilarious.

I am now in Fallow Mire.

Nor for me, Ive had Sera in my groups for about a total of 10 hours.. and shes said 1 thing to Vivienne and Viviennes said one thing to her... shes never spoken to any other companion.

Since I don't want to progress in the story while this is still a bug (luckily I'm "only" 13 or so hours in) I plan on doing some testing this afternoon/evening.

It would seem that we are too early in he process to have a definitive testing methodology, correct? Especially since it's something that's *not* happening, versus being triggered. :(

I`ve switched the dynamic range mode in audio menu to headphones and my party seems to talk more often, i even got a banter after just standing idle in a camp after about 3 minutes(never happened before). Perhaps it`s just a coincidence, but i thought it may help.

Almost 90 hours of playing game and I heard maybe 10-12 banters. Mostly between Solas and Varric.
After thinking about whole issue I concluded that after getting to the Skyhold there was no banter at all. Maybe 2 times it happened...

(I'm playing new game through Outcome, because I want to have subtitles in english and I noticed that I got few banters more (really not much, maybe 2-3), but still... I'm 6 hours in Hinterlands and my party is mute).

First half hour's results:

09:25 AM
Warped to Skyhold. Greeted by the war drums. ._. Oh well, I suppose it's fitting.

09:26 AM
Warped to Western Approach. Varric, Dorian, and The Bull shall be my assistants this morning. Immediately I mounted, unmounted, then rested. Moved several paces so that the Inquisition Scout wouldn't constantly address me. Stood in place.

09:37 AM
Blasted Qullback interrupted the standing-in-place schtick. Had to put it down. The camp troops watched on from afar. Beginning to question their competency as soldiers.

09:58 AM

Still nothing. Wondering if I should start fast-traveling around the Approach.

Reporting in. About 13 hours in, maybe had banter about 4 or 5 times. I'm on PS4, physical copy, regular edition. Playing as a human male mage, imported world state.

Also, I'd like to add that I rarely hear any music either. Maybe this is related? I was quite surprised to hear ambient music yesterday after about 2 hours of silence. I usually only hear ambient sounds, like birds.
