That reminds me. In all the hubbub, I never did mention it, but combat audio is potentially glitched for me, too. When someone is low on health there is chatter but I think that's it.
I sometimes have audio glitches, most often happens when I load while already being in a loaded game state. Going into the audio and tick one of the otions back and forth, then saving solves it.

Hmm. I'll investigate that when next I'm home, thanks. I've fiddled with that once or twice and probably to no avail, but it's possible I'm mistaken and it did help briefly.

Okay, didn't realize this was an actual glitch until today. So I've already finished my first play through (50+ hours) and the companions I got the most banter out of was Vivienne and Sera, and even that was maybe 4 or 5 times throughout the whole game. I never rode mounts, because I didn't want to miss out on any party banter, so that's not the problem. I'm really hoping this gets fixed soon, as listening to party banter is one of my favorite things to do in any Dragon Age game.
By the way, I'm playing on xbox 360.

Does anyone know if the Xbox one version is also borked?
I'm already using a controller and my Skyhold doesn't seem to upgrade, the audio is flaky and my companions never speak. If the Xbox version works I think I might just buy it and hold off on my PC copy until it's got some fixes. Of course my Hubby will be livid because he just upgraded the computer for me to play on and he isn't exactly a sharer where his console is concerned but I'm feeling really frustrated and it's a viable option if the other version is superior. ![]()

I believe there have been numerous X1 reports of this, unfortunately. Could be mistaken... but I think so.Does anyone know if the Xbox one version is also borked?

As for Skyhold not properly upgrading, it's possible I have that problem also. Not sure. I selected one of the major upgrades (an infirmary) and nothing happened. But I may have needed to leave Skyhold and then come back to actually see the results, so I'm not sure.

I'm having the same issue, 47h~ played and i'm getting about 1 banter every 30min/hour, some times not even that.
First i thought it was normal but apparently it's not, music works fine tho.
Also i'm running on PC

jumped on here to add my two cents: i have this problem -- 80-90 hours of gameplay and maybe ~20 instances of banter at max -- and my sound problems are much the same as other people have described. when i do get banter it usually comes one after the other in a very quick timeframe and then goes away completely. i don't get any dialogue in combat unless someone is low on health, and i have had a lot of problems with sound cutting out, sometimes frequently and sometimes rarely. same issue with music rarely ever playing -- just ambient sound.
tried some of the suggestions here with mounts and resting in the exalted plains. i ran around for an hour, closing rifts and doing quests, with a party of blackwall/dorian/cole (none of whom had ever been in a party together) and nobody made a single comment. fast traveled to a camp site, mounted and dismounted and rested, headed back out and played for another roughly 45 minutes, got one banter between blackwall and dorian and two between blackwall and cole. if it matters i'm running pc deluxe version installed from disc.

I completed all upgrades, but the courtyard and the tower haven't changed, completing parts of the main quest did not help.

10:00 Exited red cliff chantry, mounted/dismounted
10;06 cass/varric banter
10:15 cass/varric banter
10:30 cass/varric banter
I'm not sure how much they're actually meant to banter but it's a good start. I'm going to have a run around the hinterlands and try fast travelling to see what happens.

So much for the amazing buy your way out of issues solution then

How can it be that this glitch affects all platforms, yet not everyone is getting the glitch? I would have thought that players on the same consoles at least would all have an identical experience.
There must be something in common between everyone who is getting this problem. Maybe it's something in our playstyles?

I rarely rest at camps or use mounts. Usually if it's time for me to rest I have something to do back at Skyhold so I port back.

Did we all hang around endlessly in the Hinterlands? I was there for three days finishing off sidequests before I ever went to Haven, maybe I never triggered the start banter thing? Could be the horse, it's probably horse related.....horses are my new class enemy!

Same here. Never really used mounts, outside of the racing minigame in the Hinterlands. I also never rest, since your health gets replenished just by fast travelling to a camp.
Maybe people who aren't having this problem use mounts all the time?

I can confirm I definitely stayed in the Hinterlands forever. Not sure if I went back to Haven -> Hinterlands -> Haven -> Hinterlands to trigger the banter to work right. I also want to blame the horse.

I rest all the time, and I use mounts on occasion. Still have the glitch.

the first time i started the game i was in the hinterlands for...maybe three hours. it wasn't very long before i went back to haven, and in that time i had probably the second largest amount of banter i've had in game, probably 3-4 conversations between the standard cassandra/varric/solas group. when i went through a second time i was in the hinterlands probably seven hours before i did anything else, and i had maybe 1-2 conversation in that amount of time. the other time i had a lot of banter was in the hinterlands after moving to skyhold, in which i had maybe 6 conversations within the varric/dorian/iron bull group in about 30 minutes before it went silent again.
i didn't pick up mounts for a long time on either file. i don't ever use them currently, though i have them, and i rest pretty infrequently but i get banter most often immediately after fast traveling if at all.

There should be dialogue during combat too? O_O
Good lord, how much am I missing... It's like I am playing only one half of the game.

Just out of curiosity, is anyone who's experiencing the no banter bug playing at 30 fps capped? (PC btw)
When you lock the game's framerate at 30 you get double load times, so maybe even the scripts triggering the convos are getting delayed?

I was in the Hinterlands for ~10 hours before ever setting foot back at Haven, it could correlate. Wish the bog unicorn didn't already have that sword through it's head. -coughs-

Just uninstalled the game and installed it again, tried the rest/mount combo and nothing. The #YOLO Party is worryingly shy around my inquisitor.

I've left my framerate locked, I didn't want to touch anything that might have unexpected consequences.
