I should have checked these forums earlier, I spent over 40 hours of this game in silence ... ugh.

I'm curious how often we're supposed to have banter. Should it be every 5 minutes or every half hour or some other period of time? I think that would help to know if we're missing something or if it's working as intended.

When I was getting it consistently last night after the mount/rest trick, it was about every 5-15 minutes or so.  Usually I'd get them every 8 minutes on the average.

Alright! So I tried to mounting/rest thing and I got IMMEDIATE banter! I could scare believe my ears! However, if I have to do this everytime in order to get banter, that's kinda poopy. :'(

I have found a good general fix for this problem. I believe the frequency of the banter is based on your setup. What I mean is the game expects your party to be as follows: Rogue, Mage, 2 warriors. I barely got any banter before, but when I changed the setup to the "expected setup" (I.E. I'm a mage, I took varric cassandra and blackwall). Banter immediately started and has been very frequent since. So try using the meta setup if you havent already, because I believe the script for the banter is expecting this and doesnt initialize properly when you have something like 2 mages or 2 rogues.

so remember: 1. 2 handed warrior 2. Shield and sword warrior 3. Rogue 4. Mage

hope this helps.

I've had that set up since the beginning, as I am playing a warrior. I always bring another warrior (as I am not tanky in the least, so I make the other warriors do it), a rogue and a mage. Still have the bug. :(

Just reporting in to say that I have the same issue. It makes me very sad, since the party banter is one of my favorite things about Dragon age. My companions very rarely speak at all.

Is there a way to check if you have this bug?

Can I idle for X amount of minutes to check if it should trigger party banter or not?

Glad Natashina (and several other regulars!) on call, 'cause I'm busy with some friends for the evening. I'll swing by again before going to bed tonight and try to help out some more, though.

Well, what sort of ratio are you running into? (Sorry if you already posted about it, I'm multitasking at the moment so I don't have time to catch up on every post.) If you have banters fire off every 5-10 minutes or so you're probably in the clear. 15-20 minutes is apparently still within the norm at times. More than that is definitely pushing it, and some players are so lucky their companions "never shut up." Which might be the norm after all, not sure.

Given that people are finding workarounds via using various systems, I suspect there's a systemic issue and those that aren't affected are mostly lucky (or that they at least happen enough to not take notice).

I'm 20 hours into the game right now and I've heard maybe like 10 banters?

There was this strange period of about 2 hours, where I didn't hear any banter at all >_<

Yeah, for some those strange two-hour periods are the norm. But it's definitely not how the game is supposed to be, and hopefully not how it'll be once things are figured out. :)

DENMARK

My team is bantering aproximately every 20 minutes.

I have the normal retail four disc release (11026690330x) + downloaded the Digital Deluxe content.

Ok, I've got the results of my first test.  Firstly, I repaired the game in Origin and then I loaded a save prior to going to Skyhold for the first time because I had some issues with the specialist quests vanishing from the war table and Vivienne entirely disappearing from the game.  I took companions with me that I don't think I've mixed together before to maximize the chance they wouldn't have used up any available banter.

Without resting and horsing around here's what I got.

12.41  Storm coast camp.

12.42  Vivienne and Blackwall banter while idle in camp.

12.45  Music cuts out in combat and no companion dialogue.

12.52  Vivienne and Blackwall banter.

12.55  Combat music plays

12.58  Vivienne and Blackwall banter.

13.05  Combat without dialogue from party

13.06  Combat with dialogue from party

13.08  Banter with Cole and Blackwall

13.23  Music cuts out while exploring

13.28  Rest in camp

13.32  Banter

13.40  Leave area.

So it seems early on in I get banter coming in regular 10 minute bursts and then a 26 minute break with nothing until I rest in camp again.  This amount of discussion between party members is much more than I remember having with my default party of Cass, Solas and Varric, although perhaps my memory is at fault here and they have simply exhausted their conversation paths so far.  I have a resistance to progressing the plot in favour of picking over an area and perhaps this has an impact.

I'll try the horse fix later and see if I get different results with another configuration of party members who haven't travelled together regularly.

I've already finished my first playthrough and am on the 1/3rd my second playthrough and to be quite honest, I wasn't excited about replaying due to the fact that the silence was maddening. I didn't even know this bug WAS a thing until I found it, and I was really disappointed. On the whole playthrough that was pretty much six days, I had four to six panty banters, and they were less party banters and more quest related quips than anything. I'm trying to repair the game now to see if it works, but I sincerely doubt it. Just really hoping they fix it soon so I can replay again and actually have the experience I waited to much for.

Dunno if it's helpful, but I mostly used the double warrior - mage - rogue setup and didn't work either. Elven/Warrior/Male. And Qunari/Female/Mage. I don't think these have anything to do with it rather than it being a bug. Another thing is the whole custom Hawke affecting your voice when it comes to the race, changing it to the 'default' race voice. But I guess that's an issue for another topic?

Edit; Five minutes after repair I got a party banter between Sera and Cassandra but it cut really abruptly, without entering into battle nor doing any actions. Then radio silence. Tried the mounting thing, also nada. Will try further tomorrow. Hope they ask for our saves so this can be fixed asap.

Anyone mind posting a download link of their save if you think you're not affected by this. Right now we have no clue on how it's supposed to be, or if periods of lulled dialogue are common (though there's definitely something wrong).

Wow, I didn't realize this was a bug until I saw this thread yesterday. I too thought that the devs just wanted to spread the banter out, so that's why I wasn't hearing it that often in my almost 40 hours. Though I do specifically remember taking Blackwall, Iron Bull and Vivienne into the Fallow Mire and they bantered a lot! I will try the mounting/dismounting and resting trick and report back.

It's still not clear whether this is an issue embedded into the save, or whether is something to do with our installation, setup, etc.  So would be interesting if saves with the bug loaded by people without the bug are able to replicate, and vice versa.

Just wanted to say that I started my second playthrough.

I did that thing that was suggested with going back to haven then back again to hinterlands first time you arrive, but I got no banter for the duration of 2 hours I spent there. Then I fast traveled back to the starting camp and rested once, it took 10 minutes and Cassandra/Varric had their first banter.

Allan tested one of my saves yesterday and he got banter just fine, whereas I wasn't getting any on that character.  So there is something else going on here.

Hmmm, horse+rest trick isn't working for me. At least not in the hinterlands. I got only two banters, both with Dorian and Solas, in the two hours that I spent there.

That said, that's better than the 6 banters in 40 hours that I was getting before. I'm on PS4, by the way.

Please don't forget to put in your experiences into this thread as well: http://answers.ea.co...ht/true/page/17

Devs are monitoring that one as well, and any feedback/testing that we've done on our own might help. This feedback will help narrow down the cause of this issue.   ;)

If it's not embedded in the save then hopefully any fix they come up with will retroactively apply to our existing saves (fingers crossed!) however, he did admit in an earlier post that he didn't do long term testing (ie stand around for an hour or two). So jury prob still out...

I'm a bit torn as to what I should do at this point. For a while during tonight's playing, things seemed to be work normally, I suspect. This was while I was in Fallow Mire - but nowhere else. Since you can't mount here, I'm not sure if that was a factor in it working. There was a some banter, and consistent ambient music. (I get virtually no music anywhere else.)

At about 18 hours, so far I've been through a fair amount (I think) of the Hinterlands, most of Fallow Mire, a bit of Storm Coast, and Val Royeaux. Newest eligible party members are Sera, Vivienne, Iron Bull. That's about it, so I know I have a ways to go.

I'm just not sure I want to keep going with it unfixed, knowing that I'm missing a siginificant amount of the experience. It just wouldn't be the same in a replay as opposed to the first time.
