I have the bug, and I've only heard combat dialogue twice in 40 hours of gameplay. Trust me, it's obvious. The first time was Sera shouting about a shielded enemy, something like, "Big shield, big arse!" and the other was Iron Bull shouting insults like "Gnats!"
The only combat dialogue I've ever heard is Cass shouting 'Maker take you!'. As many others have said, this thread is enlightening, reassuring and heartbreaking at the same time, because I assumed combat dialogue for instance had just been removed for this game. Also, music in Val Royeaux? Damn, count me in as someone who's never heard it. Music in general is very sporadic for me, plus I've been getting the infamous Drums of Skyhold and lagging sound effects.
I had a go with the mount-dismount-rest trick and thought I was getting success with it, because after I tried it the first time a banter between Vivienne and Sera fired almost straight away. But it's like it's effects have been less and less successful since, and it doesn't seem to work for me now. I'll have to try the audio thing and see what that does. What's weird about the banter thing is that banter isn't totally absent; with my Vivi-Sera-Cassandra party I thought I might be getting somewhere when we were running around Emprise de Lion, because Viv chatted with both of them a few times, but then there will be huge stretches of total silence and it's just disturbing. Like others, I'm probably going to put my play through on hold until this is patched, which isn't too bad because I was planning on restarting this pt anyway. I really hope it does get fixed though.

Okay, so is there supposed to be background music playing in Val Royeaux during gameplay? I don't hear it. Is this game supposed to have BGM more like skyrim where it's pretty much constant?
Additionally, I have issues with sounds not playing initially until I use the ability or do the action a couple of times, then those SFX finally load. Maybe this has something to do with these bugs?

I know we are pretty clueless on this stil, but... What do we think are the chances a patch will fix this for current save files we have? Is it more likely to be one of those things where we have to start a new save in order for it to be fixed? I think I'll have to pause my second playthrough as others have said if this bug persists. Such a shame. I want Dorian! *sobs quietly*
Well, since the people were able to get banter on a saves from people who don`t, my guess would be the patch should fix it for current saves, with the info so far, it doesn`t look to be encoded in the save file itself.
Edit. Btw, is there combat music? Like, does music change when you start fighting a bunch of enemies?

There's supposed to be combat music. I'm trying to think of o get any myself. Will pay more attention to that tonight. I definitely don't have much music as a general rule though. Three second swells sometimes twenty seconds of it playing if I'm lucky. Kinda fed up of hearing my own footsteps and birds tweeting all the damn time xD.

Thank you!
When you click on rest(tent) at the camp, there is a fade to black and music should play, i got the music for the first couple of times, then it stopped playing.
Ahem... that's quite embarrassing but I discovered there's not the option to disable the autosave on the console either
sorry

How frequent are the banters supposed to be? While I think I have only heard the val royeaux song once, I'm pretty sure I never lasted an hour without at least 2 banters. Is my banter bugged? Cause some people are saying that after trying the mount fix, they get like 3 banters in 20 mins. So that's how frequent we really should be getting the banters>

I wonder if when they fix this, if it's going to be the party banter equivalent of blue balls. Will they mention things that happend 40 hours ago?
That'd be cool.
It'd be nice if someone posted a video to give us a clue of *how it should be*. So far the claims are 10-30 minutes, but over the course of the entire game? How big will the difference be compared to now?

SpoilerSo i was jumping in different areas now, trying to fight enemies and see if there is any music - nope. The only place i seem to consistently get ambient music (at least) is in Fallow Mire, no combat one though. Damn.
Well, that`s one lead gone, aw. Don`t worry and thanks for checking
I want to get home to test! But I have 4 more hors of work. Ugh! Haha! Glad everyone is trying to be proactive with this though. Togetjer us bugees might just help the devs to fix this sooner rather than later (one hopes). I shall see if my luck with banter continues when I play tonight. I was in heaven yesterday with Bull and Dorian banter. It was coming every ten mins if not more. But as others have said, these 'fixes' don't seem to last very long.
It is curious about the music also being lacking though. Are they related or are we being hit by multiple bugs?
I usually got a music swell and then a banter last night. Was bizarre. But could he coincidence as those swells were happening quite a lot even if they didn't last for very long.

Wow... reading everyone's replies makes me realize how much I am missing. No music, no banter, no combat dialog. I do hope the banter never actually triggered in the background, cause if it did that means tons of dialog has been lost. If it simply didn't trigger and a patch fixes it, at least the banter will start from the beginning properly. But the couple of banters I've heard seem to be a continuation of previous dialogs (as others have stated as well), so I'm worried that I'll have missed loads... Definitely putting my playthrough on hold till there's a fix.

For me at least.. It hasn't been silently triggered. Dorian and Bull had their very first banter yesterday and it was definitely their first one in sequence. And I had them in my party a lot. So that's good news. But it could be different for others, it would suck missing out on it because it's been silent in the background all along. That really would require an entirely new playthrough. *sigh*Wow... reading everyone's replies makes me realize how much I am missing. No music, no banter, no combat dialog. Interesting. If i teleport to the initial Fallow Mire camp, the one we start in - i get the ambient music. i get the rest music if i rest. Then, if i teleport in the second camp - no ambient music and no rest music. I`m going to test other locations, the thing is, it seems people get some banter at the start of locations and we start in those camps. Perhaps camp trick somehow tied with the starting camp.
Edit. LOL. Tested Hinterlands. Teleport in the initial camp - rest music - check, ambient music - check. Teleport on the other camps - no rest music, no ambient music. Teleport to the last camp that is near the dragon - Dorian remarks about cold, rest music - check. Teleport back to the initial camp - no rest music. W.T.F. GAME?!

I'm thinking about this whole issue. I think lack of banters is one subject. But the music being cut off ? This actually is quite an issue. Just imagine classic black Isle RPG games without all these amazing music bits. Kinda makes a difference, doesn't it ? Hah.
I would like to know what we are supposed to hear, vs what we think we are supposed to hear. I don't mind the games music as it is, the cutscene music all works fine - I'm just confused when people say Val Royeaux has music - do they mean during gameplay? Because I don't get any during gameplay and only small flourishes elsewhere in the game. If that's intentional, awesome! I would love someone to explain how the music is supposed to work - It could be that we think it's a bug when it's designed that way ![]()

Apparently there is supposed to be music like all of the time. :/

I didn't realize some of the music was missing too. And I thought I was getting "combat banter", but apparently there's supposed to be more than what I'm getting (basically I hear "help X" or "X is down"). So it's pointing more towards a general widespread audio issue than anything else.

I've been having the same problem as you guys. Been running around Emerald Graves with nothing but silence for about 2h. Then Cassandra bursts out "It's quiet, a bit too quiet". I laughed pretty hard

Yep, I think I'm also getting this issue. At first I just thought I had exhausted the banter but I tried different party member combinations and I was in an area for a couple of hours and didn't get anything. No combat dialogue either and I think the music is lacking (I don't hear any music in Val Royeaux). I hope that it can be fixed on current saves with a patch, I'm holding off on carrying on with the game until this and the cut scene dialogue bugs are fixed.
Edit - just checked for the music in Val Royeaux, it is present when I first fast travel there but just for 30 seconds or so, then there's nothing else again. Maybe that's what's supposed to happen?

Yesterday, Dorian said he felt sea sick and couldn't even look at the sea, so, naturally, I dragged him go the waters edge; he actually turned away from the sea so his back was to it. I know it was just an AI placement thing but it did make me laugh. Poor guy.

My understanding is that music should play, fade off in to the ambient sound, then play again in cycle. However, in my case, it plays once, fades off, sometimes clearly in the middle of the tune, and never comes back, until i teleport around. Imagine, you run all around the hissing wastes, looking for *something-something-spoiler*, for 3 hours, and all you ever get is ~1 minute music at the start and only winds howling all the other time. And spiders, damn those spider are annoying. I still love them though.

I know what you mean. It seems that music should be in the background all the time during gameplay as well, but perhaps somebody who has a working version could let us know.
The music being present in the background all the time is great IMO, it doesn't necessarily overcome the other sounds if it fits properly into the game. I'm sure you'd like it as well, let's hope we'll find out soon
