But I would never dismiss it outright, either. It is possible we're missing stuff there. As far as my awareness goes, it is simply also possible we are not. And the one instance I'vd heard -- Sera's "because too many britches!" -- at least two people here have reported never even hearing that. So...

I wish we had specifics, too. This "combat dialogue" thing feels like a bit of a falsehood to me based on my own limited YouTube investigations, really, which is why I've never included it in any updates. Unlike the banter bug and general environmental music weirdness, I haven't seen much of anything that spells out "this is wrong." I simply wouldn't be surprised given everything else that's... off-key for us.

I assume it's supposed to be stuff like "how many have you got Hawke?" From DA2. I only get low health stuff. But we do need confirmation on that before throwing it into our ever growing list of audio bugs

Re:banter if i was to guess with no technical knowledge (and i do mean guess) it might be that the audio files arent loading properly, kind of like how it might take a while for a texture or sound effect to load in some instances?

(What about music at Skyhold??? I remember the infamous drums but when I'm there I just hear wind, birds chirping and people working in the blacksmith...)
This song played during the cutscene when I first entered but that's the ONLY time I've heard it. Also, I've noticed that when I'm exploring other locations (Hinterlands, Storm Coast, etc) it's almost ALWAYS silent which is really disconcerting. I tried to remember if there was ambient background music playing while exploring in DA:O and DA2 but I'm not sure...
Is this a glitch? I rarely ever hear music playing and when you add the lack of party banter (I've gotten maybe 15 in 50 hours worth of playtime) the world feels SO lifeless.

Wait, there's supposed to be music playing while walking around at Val Royeux?
I've been there myself and watched a few vids its just quite as anything there just ambient sounds and npc's talking no music or banter

I came here from seeing the story on yahoo of all places. I've read about the bug/problem before but I'm not sure if I'm affected. My last 15 hours have been spent doing war table missions (at 93h now) before I do the last main quest. I may have the problem of very little talk as when I was finishing some random side quests or doing extra req quests for the achievement (which is now stuck because mobs don't respawn that I need) I hear maybe one 6 line conversation per map and that's it.

No, there should be music there and banter. Just went there my self.

Well I can tell a little more, since I now managed to get through the game, clocking around 50 h.
The LEAST Banter happened in:
Storm Coast (None)
Emerald Graves (None)
Exalted Plains (None)
Val Royeaux (None)
The Western Approach (2 banters in total)
Fallow Mire (2 banters in total)
The MOST Banter happened in:
The Hinterlands (6 banters in total)
The Emprise du Lion (5 banters in total)
But seeing how that comes together as 15 banters in total in 50h of gameplay, it is still extremely little. Compared to the number of banters I got in DA2. Even in Act 1 there were far more than 15.
Also I have been in all locations multiple times and with different companion - setups, but the amount of dialogue pretty much stays the same or is not triggered at all. For example, after the 6 banters triggered in the Hinterlands, I've been there three more times to finish up quests and gather resources, with different companions, and nothing happened.

Well damn...No, there should be music there and banter. Just went there my self.
I just realized I've had another audio glitch all along and never really payed attention to it: sometimes when I go in the tavern, the bards music starts playing but she doesn't sing... Even though the lyrics are being displayed on the screen.
It's really sad and annoying because I love her songs.
I hope Bioware fixes these bugs ASAP. I thought they convinced EA to give them another month to polish the game before release... I shudder to think of how messed up the game would have been if we had gotten it in October.

Well the music will just play for around a minute then fade a way. maybe thats the reason people are not hearing it on youtube videos

In regards to combat dialogue, I have gotten some. Sometimes Varric will say things like 'One more for me!' (and I always expect him to follow it with 'how many have you got, Hawke?' and it makes me sad) and 'One less to worry about'. It's similar to Cass' 'May the Maker take you' or whatever she says. It does happen, I just don't know how often it's meant to.

Switching over to another saved character and back again seems to help it on my end, tho conversations seem to reset. But yeah, hope there is a fix soon.

-snip-
This actually squares very well with my experience. I simply couldn't trigger anything in The Western Approach after one or two exchanges. The horse/sound 'fix' seems to be largely illusory here.

Oh. if you mean that banter, then it happens everytime they take the killing blow.

Also I just tried traveling to some areas and you should be hearing music on Western Approach, Crestwood, Hinterlands and Val something. Will test later for other maps.

It doesn't for a lot of people, and often my battles are silent.

I see. Just trying to clarify things as others mentioned that there are banters such as Sera reacting to an enemy that carries shield, that is something that I've never heard of in my battles.

Video evidence would be awesome just so we know exactly what your meaning when you say music.

During the battle with the dragon, Iron Bull never made a peep. I certainly would remember him shouting something in Qunlat... So this is obviously a bug, and even though it's not game breaking it IS ruining my experience and ability to immerse in the role play.
I NEVER hear any combat banter apart from the occasional "Sera" "Iron Bull!" but it often happens when those characters aren't even hurt and have full health... Which is dumb.

This is hitting all platforms though, including previous gen consoles. So graphics aren't making any difference. ![]()

I'm very familiar with this. My Inquisitor has a tendency to sometimes shout "Dorian!" during combat when Dorian is perfectly fine. I get that the boy's in love, but that's a bit over the top. And I've only ever heard him yell Dorian's name.. no one else's, even when others are injured. I have heard a few snippets of combat dialogue, but that was a long time ago. I do remember Sera shouting "your face!" or something similar when she killed someone. Has anyone heard that?

I also don't seem to be getting much banter. I just thought there wasn't any. I play on PC through Origin. Sometimes I'll get Solas telling me about an artifact, but I have found some where he didn't say anything. My game is pretty quiet, no combat banter, ever.

So I tried that mount / dismount, rest as well as the switching audio tricks and none of them had any effect on banter for either of my two characters ![]()
