I'm going to put the singleplayer on hold for now. Oddly enough, standing in fields waiting for people to talk is less fun than I imagined.

I finally managed to force Solas and Cole to talk to each other, by standing in the field next to Jimmy in Redcliffe with only the two of them in the party. This is after about a dozen hours of having them both in a full party of 4, in addition to another 3 or so hours in a party with only Solas and Cole. Redcliffe village seems to be the best place to trigger banters. And I've noticed that running around adventuring seems to trigger banter far less frequently than staying still does.

How often have you gotten them to talk with that strategy ?

Okay, I have to ask since it's bugging (ha!) the heck out of me...
Is there anyone else who never hears any combat dialogue, like, at all? Many of you are saying you only hear them call out when very low on health or a companion has fallen, but I'm not even getting that. :/

Video evidence would be awesome just so we know exactly what your meaning when you say music.
I'll try to make a video evidence later. But this is the music that I'm saying that plays in val something when you enter it:

Thankfully we got to know about this, otherwise we would think that no music while exploring is just the way the game is. Overall, this situation makes me a little sad about what I already missed because of that bug.
I wonder if that's why stuff like lack of banter and music wasn't picked up by initial testers, because maybe they didn't realise what Dragon Age games are "supposed" to be like?

I'm done til they patch this. I tried last night with the audio switch and the mounting, and it helps intermittently or it might not be helping at all and its just area changes/certain combos. Ironically, I'm gonna switch to Assassin's Creed ;P Oh well, great game aside from this bug.
I don't know about anyone else, but my best luck was with Vivienne and Sera, banter-wise.

Maybe because it's an intermittent issue? There are some people, including me who is not experiencing the lack of party banters.
But if we are suppose to get at least 6 banters an hour then mine is bugged as well, I get 3-4 on average per hour.

Just chiming in that I definitely hear more music and banter in the Storm Coast, like a lot of people. Not sure what it is about the area that makes my team so chatty. Varric and Cassandra have been sniping at each other since I zoned in.

When I try to play now, I can't notice anything except the lack of music and the lack of dialogue. I'm just spending time making new characters in the CC for the moment ![]()

I'm the same. I reloaded an early prologue save thinking I'd just take my time and do loads of side-quests till the patch came, but I literally can't stop thinking about the silence and hoping a banter will fire off. I was thrilled when Solas and Cass had a short chat in the Hinterlands, and then...nothing. I feel like I'm obsessing too much about this now I know it's a problem, so I really am going to have to shelve it until it's fixed. It would be great if we had some intel about what's going on towards fixing it...

Uninstalled and reinstalled my game.
Loaded my most recent save, went to continue the Exalted Plains.
Have in my Party IB, Dorian, and Blackwall.
Have had two banters (non quest related) and a one liner (area related) in 20 minutes.
(that's more talking than in 2 hours normally!)
Let's see if this holds.

I waited 20 minutes and they talked for the first time in my 60 hour game, then I stopped playing. To clarify, it was in the fenced off field in Redcliffe that you can only get into by jumping into it from the cart next to it. Once you're in the field there is no way to get back out so I had Solas stand outside as a means to escape the field.
However, I had previously tested Redcliffe with another party combo and they were bantering sporadically - time between each dialogue exchange was between 4 to 45 minutes, with 7 banters total in 2 and a half hours. Exploring the wider Hinterlands for 90 minutes with the same party yielded only one banter and that was when I had them standing idle at a camp for a few minutes.

I'm getting sucked into this investigating ![]()
My party is at the Storm Coast - Varrick, Solas, and Cassandra, at the "very bottom" of the map. I've got really funny banter between Varrick and Solas 5.5 minutes roughly after I got into the game. Had to quit after that. Does it sound like frequent enough for you guys ?

I'm happy that this appears to be working for you. I redownloaded, had a few banters, but now just silence again.

I will stop to play the game until a solution for this bug/glitch is found... don´t want to miss any more banter and risk the chance of the patch not working for games in progres.... I will probably restart any way just to get all the banter, but knowing there is banter/npc comments there which i do not get is kinda annoying me while playing the game...
I hope that they will find a solution soon

I’d still really really like to have some pointers to how the scripts are supposed to be triggering. People are literally chomping at the bit (get it, mounts, ahaha?) to try to help resolve this problem. I can wear my “trust me, I’m an engineer” shirt, if it helps?
It’s perhaps overreaching a little to say that daily updates are deserved, but of course it’d be nice to hear about any developments.

- No banters where the Inquisitor could chime in since Haven
There should be? With over 100 hours playing I am now actually upset. Party banter is the best in these games. I play for them, I replay for them. And it seems I missed out half of the reason I am playing. Gasp!

So here's what I have from the silent companions this morning.
9.50 - I tried out Val Royeaux. There was no music and no banter at all. I was there for 1/2 an hour-ish.
So then back to the Hinterlands to wander around pointlessly.
10.23 - Fast travel to camp. No music.
10.27 - Combat no music, no companion combat speech.
10.28 - Combat no music, no companion combat speech.
10.29 - Exploration - no music.
10.31 - Music cut in and plays in combat.
10.32 - Cassandra and Solas comment about plot point
10.33 - Music cuts out
10.34 - Weird audio noises heard like mumbling venatori but no-one present or nearby.
10.35 - Music starts while idle
10.45 - Combat music cuts out.
10.51 - Music starts in exploration
10.52 - Varric and Solas plot point discussion
10.53 - Music cuts out in exploration
10.59 - Music start in exploration
End of session.
Ok, so my remarkably silent companions were as expected silent. Two conversations relating to major plot point recently finalised and nothing that could be considered casual banter at all. That's pretty consistent with my remembered experiences earlier in the game. They have next to nothing to say to each other.
Later on I'll try the horse/rest fix with the same party and see if it loosens anyone's tongue but to be honest it's just too boring to do at the moment again. I'll kill something a work my way back around to it. ![]()

Wow that music is awesome. Same theme as the "Empress of Fire" song the bards play in the tavern (the only music I can consistently get in the game :/), but complete with epic orchestra. It's completely mind numbing how much we are missing :/

I just finished my first playthrough - 60 hours, as I was rushing to see the main plot - and hardly got any banter at all. I got a little bit of Bull/Sera in the Storm Coast (and by "a little bit" I mean "one banter that was really hilarious") and when I got to the Hissing Wastes Solas had a bit to say to Bull, but overall I had actually assumed that DAI had the same word budget as previous games spread over a bigger area. I'm sort of comforted to know this is a bug and can be patched, but OH GOD PLEASE HURRY UP WITH THAT PATCH!
EDIT: I'm also not getting ambient music. ie when I visit Val Royeaux it's dead silent.

Funnily enough I literally had that music play in Emerald Graves. In a cave. It was a strange moment.

Soooo, I may have found a fix.
I play DAI on the PC, and I originally installed DAI using the disks. My dad, however, bought the deluxe edition through origin and downloaded his copy. He also started his game without the English Voice Over Pack. His party banter works.
I uninstalled the game and reinstalled using origin download. I also deleted the folder for the English Voice Over Pack (it auto installed it.) You can find this folder in Origin-> Dragon Age Inquisition-> _Installer-> DLC and the folder is called DLC_EnVo.
This is my results. I had a party of Blackwall, Solas and Serra. I spent the entire time in a camp in the hinterlands and occasionally moved my character around:
1:49- Blackwall & Serra talk
2:08- teleported and rested
2:18- Solas & Blackwall talk
2:43- Solas & Blackwall talk
2:46- Solas & Blackwall talk
3:12- Solas & Blackwall talk
3:19- Serra talks to herself
3:44- Raised music volume
3:53- Solas & Serra talk
4:08- Solas & Serra talk
I also had continuous bouts of ambient music.
*Fingers crossed this fixed it*

My issue is with Varric and Solases banter. Solas keeps asking Varric about Corypheus over and over and over. Like the energizer bunny just a lot more annoying.

Interesting, I have the VO pack too. I’ll see if anything happens after deleting it (it’s useless for already-English versions anyway, which I didn’t realize at the time and had completely forgotten about).
