Conspiracy Theory: I think this is related to something to do with saving. Out of all the weird things we're testing to make banter proc, all of them do some sort of auto-saving. I think something about the save glitches out, and stays corrupt or silent until we fix it, only to corrupt again at a later save. I was testing banter today, and the only thing I did differently was keep my hand off the quick save button (I tend to mash it like mad after every fight), and I got three banters and a combat dialogue fight before the issue popped up again.

To those who sent me their save files, I'll be testing this after 4 hours since I'm still at work. If i can't get banters then it's probably save file related after all

I quick save regularly and that isn't affecting anything. If I do the mount/rest trick, I can quick save constantly and still get banter. I also don't think there is a quick save feature for consoles. If it was just PC being affected by this, then the save data would have something do with it. Since it's hitting all platforms (including previous gen,) there is something else up.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I would like to think that perhaps one of the save files sent off would have had a problem. So far though, that doesn't seem to be the case. Some folks have tried disabling the auto-save feature on the PC, but I don't know if that helps or not. Has anyone that has tried this had any luck?

I've had Allan test two of my saves that were lacking in banter, and so far he's been getting banter just fine.

For me, the party banter seemed to have grown over time. At first it was near existent, but, then when I started romancing Blackwall and did his reveal quest and flirted with Dorian til he was my best friend and flirted all the other guys til they could have the "romance" option, I started getting lots of talks. So, if I have Varric, Blackwall, Solas, Iron Bull, and/or Dorian in my party, there is always talking.

I would recommend Solas and Cassandra's banter to try for next. They get along surprisingly well.

True, perhaps situation develops over time ? It depends on whether it was designed to always have banters in like a few minutes intervals or not. BTW te ony interactive banter I had happened right after the intro ( Solas asking me about my roots). Does anybody have a lot of banters you can get into ?

I had brief bit of time this afternoon to go back and check out a new save I started the other day - same Inquisitor race, etc. I followed the quest line, and took Cass/Varric/Solas to the Hinterlands soon after getting to Haven. Within 40mins arriving at the Hinterlands, I had five instances of banter trigger. (One that I'd never gotten in my 10hrs with the above party in the Hinterlands.) 20 minutes later, I heard another new banter I'd never heard before. Solas read Hard in Hightown?! (In my previous game, I'd had four banters spread out across four/five hours.)
To my surprise, I'd also average a music cue trigger every 1min 30secs. It seemed incredibly constant. I've also - even more to my surprise - have heard three separate musical cues in that time when I was on the move. Combat dialogue/reactions from the party members are always present, though they may not comment with each battle.
As far as I can see, a working game should have something along the lines of -
Banter should trigger approx. 5-7mins.
Music cue should trigger, at the very worst, every two/three minutes - but should be far more regular.
Combat reactions present (outside your Inquisitor), although the party don't always comment.
I moved forward to Val Royeux to get more party members to test, but like in my previous glitched save, there was no party banter/music whilst I was there. I'm not convinced this save is remotely glitch free, and may develop the same issue as my first game, but the difference was pretty remarkable. First time around, my experience in the Hinterlands was very silent. The second time around, there's constant music, combat soundsets playing, and consistent banter. I'll enjoy it while it lasts, it makes such a difference to exploration.
(Will follow Vikarus' lead, and try to lay off the saving on PS4. Will see what happens!)

Oh, I romance Blackwall too
but I never flirted with anyone else, doesn't flirting with others spoil the romance with him? He looks like someone who wouldn't appreciate very much that sort of woman to me, but perhaps the flirt dialogue options are not that compromising in the beginning? Actually I have a friend who is playing on pc who's getting a lot of banter and she flirted with the whole party at Haven, and then also with Dorian, her best friend.... perhaps we have found the key to unlock party banter? ![]()

I'm not certain how saving works on PC but there is a way to at least partially prevent autosaves on PS4 - just max out all save slots across multiple characters. Doing so did produce results at first - I got 3 banters in 25 minutes while in Redcliffe with no autosaves. However, once I ventured out into the wider Hinterlands the game started autosaving again - I think there are two different types of autosaves, some on a timer and others that occur near specific locations such as camps. The location-based saves do not seem to be affected by the max save slot limit and they occurred when travelling the Hinterlands; however the timed autosaves all failed in both Redcliffe and the wider Hinterlands (the game tells you in a pop-up every time the autosave fails). Every save failed while in Redcliffe and I got regular banter there. When I was in the Hinterlands the banters dried up completely and that was the only time the game was saving.
However, this is the same thing that happened when I tested the same areas with all autosaves enabled; banters happening frequently in Redcliffe but not in the Hinterlands. That tells me that the timer based autosaves do not interfere with banters at least. It's possible that the location based autosaves do interfere with banter, but I'm not convinced.

The flirt options are mostly friendly/teasing at first, but I romanced Blackwall and flirted with everyone and it was still the best romance ever.
...I also flirted with everyone but did not get banter, so.

I quick save regularly and that isn't affecting anything.
Glad to see that, I'm an obsessive quick - saver myself
However, maybe I'll delete the majority of standard save games I have, perhaps it sort of takes some of the data weight off the game's shoulders... anyway, I still believe more in theory regarding audio pack. Can't wait to test it live.

I feel I should warn you: I only have 4 characters, and only two of them are above level 2. So I don't think that is gonna make a difference, but hey, try it anyways. Let us know how it works. ![]()
I also don't have the audio pack, same with several others, so please bare that in mind while you are testing.

Anyone who can provide proof we are supposed to be hearing music in Val Royeaux during gameplay please do post a video evidence
Be super handy to know
Here's a badly recorded sample.
Shadowplay doesn't play well with DAI, hence the stuttering.
This is from a savegame before the Winter Palace.
EDIT: that is to say, any savegames with this character after the Winter Palace don't play music in VR or Skyhold.

Another 2 hours lost in The Western Approach looking for quarries with the same party and still no banter from anyone. It's going on four hours now.
I'm thinking it's a bug alright. ![]()

This is still a guess but based off another post from a fan who knows about programing on this thread (not a BioWare dev, just a random programmer) they said that maybe multi thread tasks in the game could be putting things like banter at a lower prioroty than other tasks - which would explain the seemingly random and sporradic nature of the banter timings. Maybe when the game's processor is busy loading other aspects of the game, it becomes less frequent as a result?

I have never experienced any music in VR since the start of the game and I have played a total of 100 hours so far.
Perhaps this is also related to music in general? For those that hardly have any banter; do you have music playing at all in the background as you travel? Like, say, the hinterlands? I have music play briefly, but I am mostly dealing with ambience and footstep sounds.
The music never loops, however.
Also, I have never heard any type of combat music whatsoever except at specific scripted events...such as fighting a dragon and that happened only a couple of times.

Nice isn't it.
I do keep banging on about it, but I think it's important: this seems to be save game related, for me. I do NOT get this music anymore. It is most definitely only playing with early saves. Has anyone else checked this with their characters?
