That's my hope as well.   :)
 
I revise my earlier statement.   I'm starting to lean that this is some sort of internal audio issue that no amount of fiddling with the settings is going to help.  
 
I'm wondering if the folks that get the music in Val R. are getting banter consistently?  It seems so far like a lot of us that have the glitch don't get music in Val R.   If that's the case, there might be the first concrete link in the middle of all of this, with the audio.
 
I'll start.  I have the lack of banter and I don't get music in Val R.


Val R also silent for me. Will test it again today with the 'fixes' as I got my first full song while playing yesterday in the Hinterlands.

With my game I'm noticing a distinct pattern when it comes to banter. When I first start the game and load a save I'll get banter within the first 10 minutes, then I'll hear another 10 minutes or so after that, but after the second banter plays I won't hear anything for at least an hour or more. After the second banter plays mounting/dismounting, resting, etc. doesn't seem to do anything to trigger more conversations.

 

I also don't hear music in Val R. and I don't hear any battle music either (I have no idea if that's normal or not though).

Probably, or longer. :/ It just seems like such a nebulous issue, and all anyone can really provide is anecdata. Hopefully this thread can help point the troubleshooting in the right direction. 

 

Which is why it would be extremely useful if someone from bioware could give us at least some basic information about how the system is supposed to work, so that we could at least test relevant things.

 

I just hope the recent absence of communication from bioware since they asked for the savegames and since the bug has made its way to the major news sites mean they are on the right track and don't want to communicate until they (QA) are sure they got the problem nailed down. Well that's what my optimistic side is imagining anyway to make the wait more bearable :)

Also in the Val Royeux camp - I couldn't get music to trigger there until Skyhold in my first glitched save, and in won't play at all in my second save once again. No banter in Val Royeux at any point. At the very least, I'm now getting music/combat dialogue 100% in my new game, even though the banter is still bizarrely sporadic. (Out of desperation, did the audio trick again, and two minutes later, heard 2xSera/Solas banter for the first time in my life.) I didn't realise music was supposed to trigger every time you travel to a camp, either, that definitely wasn't happening in my first save.

I get banter in some areas but not val royeaux marketplace where i also lack music.

On  my 60+ hour save Val Royeaux is just dead for me. I realize funnily enough, noticing how good the ambient sound effects were was probably not something you're supposed to notice consciously.

Think it was said a lot of people seemed to have missed out music and banter in Val Royeaux but I have herd its meant to happen there and now seen that music is supposed to happen to :(

Yeah I tested teagles save as well. Had sound in that Val place. Didn't have that in mine. Also I went to the hinterlands in Teagles save and the music seemed to fade out pretty quick.

 

That save also seemed to load way faster than mine normally do lol.

Unfortunately, I think it has more to do with Thanksgiving. Hope I'm wrong though.

Anyone on here tried idling to see if banter appears? worked for anyone having problems? Teagles save just bantered again, now they are chatted twice within a few minutes now! I am idle though.

I put him in the hinterlands.

Music in Val R comes and goes, for me. The last time I was there on my second character, it was playing -- that was the first time I'd heard it in ~90 hours. Still no banter, however.

New character.

After Val R. (no music there, no banter)

Teleport to Hinterlands.

Running around Hinterlands for 20 min - no banter, no combat music, no combat dialog, occasional ambient music.

Teleport to camp. Rest. (No mount yet.) No rest music. Rest again - rest music - check. Idling in camp.

After 12 min - banter between Sera and Cass.

Idle for another 20 min - no banter.

Rest - no rest music.Repeat 3 more times - no rest music. Use another tent - rest music check. Idling.

After 9 min - banter between Sera and Viv.

Idle for another 20 min - no banter.

 

Yay, i bugged another char.

Posted in EA so will post here now. Haven't had a chance to help with any tests still at work, but PS4 Digital Deluxe, 25ish Hours, Story up to Skyhold, Lots of Save Files have probably had the glitch the majority of the game though can recall MAYBE 4-5 non story non quest related banter. Have used various parties while doing lots of side quests have been to The Coast, Oasis, Hinterlands. None of that was interactive for me to respond. Don't recall any unique combat calls, and I'd have to check to see about VR. First time i noticed something may have been up was in haven bard singing was subtitled but no sound  of singing just music. Have had sound cut out while in combat. Havn't noticed too much ambient music cutting. Have gotten stuck in dialogue a couple of times and had to skip through. Nothing too game breaking (except the banter to me is). Best to luck to everyone working on this here and at Bioware and hope everyone celebrating had a good holiday yesterday. Again best of luck everyone is doing great work

Tried Teagle's save. Music in Val Royaux works. I also fast traveled there a few times and it kept on working.

 

This is pissing me off. It doesn't trigger for my characters, no matter what I do.

Teagles banter is pretty slow to catch on my pc. Seems very sporadic. None so far in oasis great music though!

- Had music in Val Royeaux earlier, but only in the beginning. It didn't loop, and now when I go there it's silent.

- No combat music or dialogue, except for characters shouting when they kill/ a companion get knocked unconscious.

- Sparse but existing party banter. It can go hours without any banter at all, then I can get 4-5 banters in one hour or so (not counting remarks about the environment, they seem to trigger as they should.) Haven't gotten the opportunity for the Inquisitor to chime in, except for that time in the prologue.

 

Right now I travelled to the Forest camp near Hafter's Woods in the Hinterlands (I've had most luck with banter in Hafter's woods) and tried to rest. Like WindFury said, one tent gave "rest music" and the other didn't. After resting in the tent with music I've been standing outside the tent idly. The ambience music comes and goes, but I've had 2 party banters plus a random comment from Varric so far in about a 15 minute span. Do you think it can have anything to do with bringing up the start/options menu? I haven't done that since I fast-traveled here.

Could be lots of people seem to think resting and mount issues are causing these problems at the moment with the info we have to go on 

 

Never thought about options though some people have said changing and accessing the menu to change the sounds settings have helped them

I`m having wild guesses that there is some audio bug that is connected to save/load process and location load on teleport. After all  the rest/mount/dismount thingy makes the game auto-save. Then there is Val R. (nobody wants to bother writing that name in full xD) which seems to be cut off from the music and banter no matter what you do in there (save/load does not affect it for some reason? The locations is somehow unique?I mean, it is a safe zone, kinda, fall damage is still there though. Perhaps it works a bit differently from other areas?) Save loading/auto saving seems to kick the banter mechanism to fire off for a while, but then it stops again, music also seems to work for awhile then glitches out again.

Went to Val Royaux with my character, saved and exited the game. Reloaded and still nothing but the blabbering crowd.

So, I loaded up Hinterlands--early game--Viv and Sera immediately started chatting, then just a bit later Viv and Cass exchanged a few words about necromancers, then I fought a few rebel mages, heard combat dialogue... then I completed an objective. Cleared out a cave... not a peep from anyone after that.

I imagine doing objectives puts all banter on hold, perhaps the issue is music and banter gets stuck off?
