I got an idea, is there digital download/hard copy relationship with the bugs? For example mine DA is downloads from origins, and i got banter bug. Maybe some people who downloaded it or bought the physical cd can comment on that?

Unfortunately there doesn't appear to be a correlation. Many of us own physical copies across all five platforms and we're hit just as hard. Good thinking, though.

I think sometime today I may remove the original message text portion of the OP and replace it with a streamlined version followed by a list of possible links and confirmed not-links.

6 Hour Test [PC]

  • Hinterlands: 1 hour, no music. No commentary between Blackwall, Solas & Varric.
  • Western Approach for 4 hours, minimal to little music. Only music that played was during Dragon Battle. No conversations at all. Some ambient music but it vanishes. After 30 mins, music had completely stopped. Battle music played during Griffons Keep Assault.
  • Added Cole to party (who I have never used before) and only spoke during the quest inside Time-Frozen Venatori Base (commented on surroundings).
  • Cole commented during battle with Dragon in Western Approach and said "it's very close!" or something along those lines.
  • No Val Royaux music. Hopped around for 1 hour. Quick Travelled back and forth between all regions (and returning to VR). Again, no Music. Pure Silence.
  • Blackwall, Solas & Cole have not spoken to one another for almost 3 hours now. It's depressing.

Possible Fixes that.. didn't fix:

  • Changed audio volume for all sliders - Yielded no results.
  • Post-60 hours, tried volume sliders again, no change.
  • Post-60 hours, changed audio from speakers to headset - No discernable and noteworthy changes in companion dialogue. Ambient Music in Western Approach plays more than Hinterlands, unknown if related to settings being changed. ValRo is still silent, no music plays when arriving or idling.
  • Repairing Game (via Origin Client) - No Results.
  • Disabling Origin Ingame - My origin ingame has been disabled since the start due to Xsplit incompatability, but apparently this helps music play. Alas, perhaps thats why I'm having music play too.
  • Disabling Anti-Virus - Unknown.
  • Disabling settings under "Account" i.e. Disable Share Data / Upload Data / Auto Login - Unknown, but others have noted this causes the music & party banter to play.
  • Reinstalling - Didn't work.

Current playthrough time: 65 hours 45 minutes.

I'm going to reinstall the game and run another test to see if a fresh install fixes the party banter issue. Will run test over a 2 hour period and note down times of when companions speak. To avoid companions running out of conversations I'm going to use Cole, Solas & Blackwall (as I have only heard Blackwall speak to Solas TWICE).

I will post here again with my results.

Download time ETA: 45 minutes.

During 2 hours I'll spend 20 mins in ValRo, 40 mins Hinterlands, 1 hr Western Approach. Also will note down loading times too, just for the sake of it not adding space between gameplay as... loading screens shouldn't count. If I have more time, I'll run a test for up to 4 hours!

If reinstall fails (which judging by several people who have posted earlier, it shouldn't) I'll test out:

- Disabling Anti-Virus

- Disabling all under Settings -> Account.

- Disabling Origin in-game.

UPDATE: Check this post http://forum.bioware...ews/?p=17901815for more information on my 1 hour Western Approach test, which... yeilded nothing. It's detailed, but it didn't work.

Is bioware actively trying to solve this issue at the moment, or should I not get my hopes up of this being solved quickly?

Again, sorry for my english.

Hey, I think I found something that worked for me. I don't know if it will work for everyone or if people already know about it.

So, at moment I have music in the open field, Skyhold AND in Val Royeaux (YAY! FIRST TIME) and 3 Banter in one hour without doing something funny.

I disabled all functions under the option Account (Share usage data, always log me in, Upload yadada), didn't log in ingame in my account, turned off my Antivir and disabled Origin In Game.

This was one hour ago and until now everything is fine. Sometimes the music in the field will stop, but will started again after a fight.

Hmm. After doing this i am now getting music even in battle.

And the combat banter as well :o Ive never had the party banters bug but ive never heard combat banters. I do now after doing this. Iron ball said 'gnats'

Holy ****! That worked in one of my save files. It didn't work for a different, but it worked for my 100+ hour one. I don't know about the banter, but I now have music in Val R. I didn't think it would do anything, too simple,  but did it just because, and it worked for Val R. at least. You're amazing.

I'm sure pretty much everybody here are running around with the same party, and has exhausted the banter comment.....

So now they feel alone...

you can't exhaust banter when you never have it to begin with, unless it's going on silenced in the background which i'm pretty sure isn't the issue. if cole and blackwall aren't supposed to have more than two conversations then i have even more of a problem with this game than i have now.

Only one of my save files started producing Val R. music. I have no idea why. The one that worked had about twice the amount of hours than the other. That's the only difference. Same race/class/keep data.

Continuing to find the cause of the bugs, can anyone with/without dragon age keep imported tell about their experience?

If anyone wants to try, here's a dropbox link with a savegame in VR playing music.

Oh wow, I never had music in Val R, and your save seems to work for me just as it did for others.

This is terrible, man. Just terrible. Yesterday I played the In Your Heart Shall Burn quest and it was the first time I felt the epic they were going for. It felt like I was playing a Dragon Age game.

But that was after 3 or 4 hours of grinding experience, roaming in the open world sections...

WITH NOT A SINGLE BANTER

AND NOT A SINGLE PIECE OF MUSIC

Just environmental sounds (birds, rain, etc).

This has to be one of the most disappointing open-world games I ever played. Skyrim had the wonderful atmospheric music by Soule. But here, with this awful bug, wandering the wilds feels so lonely and boring.

At this point, I am dreading playing the game. I would rather jump to the next story mission without having to spend hours into the atmospheric-less open-world sections of the game. I mean, if the game was not so hard, I would rather play without followers. What a waste.

I try different combinations most of the time and have gotten maybe 13 party banters in 60 hours. Several of the party members have never spoken a word to each other :(

If you read even a fraction of the comments here it should be clear that this is not what's happening.

Is bioware actively trying to solve this issue at the moment, or should I not get my hopes up of this being solved quickly?

Allan said this a couple of pages back: "I just got pulled into the "War Room" (post launch support) to discuss this issue.  It's clearly affecting a lot of people and that it doesn't seem to be an issue for myself doesn't invalidate it for you guys.  I've passed along the workarounds as well as those give hints (for example, getting on the mount does actively suppress banter, while getting off the mount fires events to remove that suppression)."

So it does seem like Bioware is actively trying to find a fix for this issue. Also, note how this is pretty much the only thread in the Feedback forum that devs have participated in.

Didn't work for me either.

But I will say that the music frequency has increased lately. Banters are still very scarce though.

I guess I just don't know if I'm affected by this or not? I played the other day for a couple hours exploring the Hinterlands with various party setups and had about 1 banter per 20 or 30 minutes but sometimes its longer than that.

Since this is basically an error of omission, its not clear whether this is normal behavior for the game or not. I was thinking that maybe Inquisition just didn't have as much banter as DA2 or Origins due to the more open world structure maybe making them more spaced out.

Kind of the same thing with the music too- it very rarely plays in the background when exploring. Is that normal? Is it supposed to be like Skyrim where you've got ambient music more often than not? Or does it only come on in specific instances?

Its hard to say if your game is bugged if we don't know what the normal behavior should be.

While I am now getting Val R. music, I'm not getting combat music. I'm also not noticing an increase in other music.

Dear All,

Happy Thanksgiving (i'm actually abroad right now ... different time zones)

~ Back to topic ~
1)Does force-fully skipping cut-scenes trigger the banter bug?.. by pressing space-bar.

2)Did the recent maintenance from 6.00am to 7.00am changes anything?

Overview of my experience @ Hinterlands, via a new play-through

->Initial Banter @ Hinterlands (Solas, Varric & Cass)

-Solas pointed out that the templars must be inexperienced/inadequate against an actual mage/apostate (This is triggered when you approach groups of templars,)
-1st Party Banter between Varric, Solas & Cassandra
Where Varric & Solas were contemplating their roles to clean-up the mess made by Men, which prompted Cassandra's rebuttal..
- Awkward Slience............................................................................

I've been running around with Solas, Cassandra and Varric for 15 hours. Excluding the prologue, not a single banter.
