Hi,
Signed up to thank you all for all your hard work in isolating this frustrating issue. Its very appreciated because unlike some games where you can put off playing until its fixed, Bioware games are very emotive journeys, the best ones are hard to put down, and even harder to contemplate starting from scratch.
I'm only about 15 hours through so far, but already that nagging feeling of something being amiss with the sound brought me here. I've read all 52 pages and while its hard when there are so many variables (save games, location, activities, party), there seems to be some constants coming through:
- Sound issues are developing the longer you play
- Its on every platform and edition
- A 'reset', be it riding / loading / travelling / adjusting sound fixes the banter problem for lots of people temporarily
- The music and banter issues may not be related
The best I can figure is that the game is awash with audio cues competing to play, its trying to play banter while you move across an active soundscape (ambient, enemies, combat, music) and is getting stuck. Its when you're out in the wilderness for the long stretches that you notice it the most. The music seems like a different bug to me, as if its thinking you've started a conversation/combat/menu when you haven't. Basically the dynamic soundscape is buggy.
What I'm looking for from Bioware ahead of a patch (which could take days or weeks depending on many factors) is if they:
1) Can re-create the problem
2) Can state when the music should be playing and how often banter should fire
3) Think its going to be fixable without starting a new game
That would at least allow us to make an informed decision about whether to continue for now. does that seem reasonable?
ps Does anyone else get a strange sound when jumping half the time that's like someone having an asthma attack?
- JeffZero, Enchant_m3nt et Mimilette aiment ceci

Again, sorry for my english.
Hey, I think I found something that worked for me. I don't know if it will work for everyone or if people already know about it.
So, at moment I have music in the open field, Skyhold AND in Val Royeaux (YAY! FIRST TIME) and 3 Banter in one hour without doing something funny.
I disabled all functions under the option Account (Share usage data, always log me in, Upload yadada), didn't log in ingame in my account, turned off my Antivir and disabled Origin In Game. This was one hour ago and until now everything is fine. Sometimes the music in the field will stop, but will started again after a fight.
Tried this (without turning off my antivirus) and at least the music almost immediately started playing. Haven't heard enough banter yet to say if it's any different but a few hours of playing should show me. Going to avoid fast traveling and horses so they don't affect it.
edit:
There's battle music in this game?!!

When I initially started getting the Val R. music, I had loaded an autosave in Val R. I left, went to fight some stuff to see if I could get battle music. One of my companions died and I hit F9, it loaded an older quick save. I teleported to Val R. and the music is gone. I've left and come back a few times, and it is still gone. Now when I load the autosave that granted me music, there is none...

tried this out. on my 40+ hr save file, val royeaux was still silent in the five minutes i spent wandering, as was skyhold. loaded up my new 4+ hr save file in the hinterlands; got music initially, and then a lot of combat music as i tried to get to a place to idle. when i found one i sat there for ten minutes and then moved for another five but nothing would trigger but the combat music when there were enemies nearby. no combat dialogue, no banter, and the only line i got was solas' plot-specific one about templars facing apostate mages.

I also have the music and banter bug, first I thought there is just less banter than in the other games and the music comes and goes so I'm not sure if it's supposed to be like that.
I'll start a new game to see if there is any difference.

Definitely not. Many people here are documenting their experience, and many of us are actively trying different party combinations.I'm sure pretty much everybody here are running around with the same party, and has exhausted the banter comment.....
So now they feel alone...

No words from the developers anymore. Guess they too have been affected by the banter bug.
Guess as the weekend is coming up we might not hear back till Monday hope I'm wrong though an update would be nice

I tried to recreate this in Teagle's save and could not. Their save still has Val R. music.
EDIT: I switched backed to my save from their save, and now have music in my Val. R. I then quickloaded again, and teleported back to Val R. and the music was gone. I also realize from their save, that they get Skyhold music and I do not. Switching back and forth from their save to mine hasn't brought Val R. music back. The only thing I've been able to recreate is the loss of music in my own save from quickloading a quicksave.

Just tried the "reset" thing- on a horse, fast-travel and rest- and I had banter during the taking of griffon's keep. Then, silence. The music in the Western Approach worked however, which it hasn't before. Repeated the "reset", but even after standing still for 10 minutes, nobody talked.

I think you misunderstood me.
Perhaps the way the mount system is coded into the game is what is causing the issue.
I'm shooting in the dark here, but I think something about the way the mount dismisses your party might have something to do with it. I know it doesn't make a difference if you have a mount or not. I hit about 10 hours before I got mine and I had a lot of silence as well.
Edit: I'm just guessing and I don't know about coding. Again, just shooting in the dark and spit-balling ideas.
Not likely in my case. Haven't used a mount for over 20 hours, and the party banter worked sometimes (1 per ~10 minutes frequency) usually after fast travel.

Thanks for starting this thread. I believe I have this issue as well, just as in DAO. There has been some banter but ever since a banter started while I just got on a horse it seems to be screwed.

What if the audio/music bug (no ambient/combat music, i have creatures dying screech sometimes stuck on repeat for a couple of times, especially with those giant red templar things, i have the game crash to white screen in cutscenes in the middle of someone talking, i have the game crash to white screen on war table when i switch between advisers cards, to see the differences, and there is a sound that plays when you switch) is the "thread" that prevents the banter from firing? We don`t yet have nvidia new drivers btw, right? And there is sound drivers in there too, at least in my case.

Turned off the account settings earlier . Now I've been running around Hinterlands and have gotten 3 banters (Iron Bull/Cassandra, Iron Bull/Dorian x2) in half an hour. Music is still quite rare, but I've gotten a lot more short ambient-y music clips when I reach a certain place, climb really high, etc. It's hard to say what's normal when I've apparently never experienced normal gameplay.
On an another note, does anyone else sometimes hear a weird, low male voice chanting/murmuring? I don't think it speaks english, but it appears at such random times and places that I've started wondering if it has something to do with this bug. Or my skull staff is speaking to me..

I think the whispering voice could mean that you're close to shards.

That`s venatori mages chanting xD Search around, there must be a venatori pack nearby.
Edit. Or shards, as gela mentioned. But i find shards sound to be higher and there appears to be more than one voice.

There were drivers released by Nvidia on the 18th with sound. I downloaded them last night before reinstalling my game and am still experiencing these issues.

I support this wholeheartedly. Bioware needs to give us an update on this serious issue ASAP. If they can't fix it for our existing playthrough I probably will start a new character... I dont want to waste my 60+ plus but, at the same time, I dont want to keep playing that character in such a dead, lifeless world (no music and no banter in most locations totally ruins the experience!)

I turned off the settings (thought if someone could give me a screencap or something to see what they've done exactly, maybe I got 'em wrong), tried the antivir thing, the sound thing, the travel thing, the mount thing, pretty much EVERYTHING and still nothing. Even tried five saves to see if it worked and nope. I can only listen to ambient music, though I can listen to the music in Val Royeaux, pretty much after that I have nothing. I'm entering despair mode.

I noticed the following:
Initially, I got a lot of banters but when I aquired the first addition party member (besides Cassandra, Solas, Varric) the amount of banters did go down drasticly. The character was Blackwall. I cannot remeber if it started after aquiring him, or after I put him into the party the first time.
I own a physical PS4 version, German release but my system is set to English, so the entire game is also.
Edit: Can somebody confirm this?

I`ve read this article http://gamingbolt.co...-support-issues
and this is our forum thread http://forum.bioware...unity-concerns/.
Plus, I saw a couple discussions on reddit and gamefaqs, it seems 344.75 still have some issues that needs to be resolved.

About 2 mins after writing that I stumbled into some venatori mages. I never had seen them before though, I've always checked the area when hearing the voices. The sound tends to be louder depending of my camera angle so maybe they had been behind some rock walls or something like that.

not sure if this might help.
i started a new game on a new name on my ps4, didn't do the keep or any of the dlc bonus things, and so far i hear music and have gotten 7 conversations in the hinterlands where as before i had only gotten one i think but i only been playing as long as it takes to do the opening and taking to that lady in the hinterlands and the horse dude and staked out 2 watch towers. so im not sure if the bug will happen again on my new game.
