I'll test this right now, minus turning off antivirus. Will update in a bit.

Thank you. I played a little earlier for a few hours - hardly any banter (although my highlight was Dorian nitpicking at Solas' clothing choices), buggy audio. I'll test this out a little later.

I'm starting to think it may be a priority issue as well, and using a mount or resting somehow resets them. All devs need to do is set party banter to highest priority! Yep. :D

This might have worked for me.

I went into the journal and hovered over every single quest which still had a diamond icon next to it
This includes:
Active questions
Collections
and
Completed Quests

I then sat through a whole lot of 'quest complete' notifications with the accompanied SFX

I then went into options and into account and turned 'upload' on

Then I saved and exited to main menu and logged in.

Loaded and within 10 seconds Viv and Sera were arguing. This is the first time I've even heard Viv talk in the party.

Time will tell whether this was just an amazing coincidence...

I just tried with a couple of places. All have music, banter for now. Except for the french city.
I am so happy:)

BEWARE: turning off the internet option under account WHILE in game hardfroze my ps4. Needed to unplug and do a repair because of it:(

If anyone wants to try, here's a dropbox link with a savegame in VR playing music.

I've been following this topic pretty much from the day it started. I also have the issue. Very little banter, and also very little music. When loading this save however I instantly get music! Music I never heard before. :( If, after loading, I fast travel to Skyhold, I also get music there, which I also never heard before in my own game!

There's definitely more going on than just the banter bug, it's also music. I'm now holding off playing anymore until this is fixed. Missing all of this just ruins it. :(

I'm also disappointed at the lack of progres updates from Bioware. Where they are on diagnosing/fixing this, any idea about what is considered the proper amount of banter and music, and more stuff like that. I appreciate that it might be a difficult fix. But at least keep us informed in the mean time! And I don't just mean "we're looking in to it" and nothing further for two days!

if it happens to have something to do with the journal...it would make sense why the most banter i got was right after arriving in the hinterlands and once i'd mostly cleared out the hinterlands before i moved on to the next main quest. just thought i'd add those two cents -- i'll test in a bit, but that does seem like it could be plausible with how my banter functions at the moment.

I tried disabling the account settings, all 3 of them.

The second I logged into the game (storm coast) I had Dorian and Cole comment on the sea + Cole and Blackwall bantered about some poetry. This happened in less than a minute.

For the next 40 minutes I didn't have a single banter, but music was pretty much constant. No music in Val R though. Noooone whatsoever.

So. I checked all the quests/collections/codex entries, all the stuff with diamonds. Waited for all "quest completed" SFX. And disabled online stuff/account stuff.

So far.

No music in Val R.

No combat music.

2 banter in a row after i teleported to hinterlands.

No banter after i teleported in Hissing Wastes.

=\

I`ll run around more, to see if i`ll get any more banter and check other areas.

That is... not a bad point. I had lots of banter when I had just arrived at the Hinterlands and as I started exploring it all dropped off. I've just arrived at the Coast for the first time and have had two banters in 20 mins... hm.

Just cleared my log. Will let you all know how it goes.

Edit: another ten mins have passed and I got a Sera/Blackwall banter. So it's behaving at the Coast, but as others have said this does seem to be one of the chattier locations.

This bug is killing me. I don't see any other way than to put the game on hold until it is fixed.

OH MY GOD. Guys I might found a serious bug now looking into the journal more connected to this bug.
Bear with me.

After cleaning the journal and got music and banter I went to Hinterland to buy some elfroot. I got an update for finishing Skyhold " A Green Garden" update. But I already finished it like 20 hours ago.
I noticed today that in completed quests for this quest it showed 0/30 elfroot. It looks like after finish the quest it DOES NOT lock it down. Every time I ran out of this ingredient in my inventory it takes it as UNFINISHED ongoing quest. After buying elfroot again it shows 30/30. It might over load the game with absolutely USELESS data.
Please check it if I am right.

Soooo for all those people who still think the game is intentionally quiet and without banter, someone on the DA subreddit posted a link to a youtube channel uploading all of the banter. And sweet Maker, we are missing out on a LOT. I'm not listening to them because I'd much rather experience them myself, but holy... :(

Edit: 12 minute video of Cole/Cass banter... wtf???

Well I gamed for a further 2 hours in the Western Approaches last night and I got one banter in a total of 6 hours playing.  This seemed to have been triggered on fast travelling from Skyhold back to WA.  That was it.  So my results with a new party configuration was one banter in 6 hours and scarcely any music.  The music played for seconds at a time and then cut out.  There was no combat dialogue outside of health notifications and no interactive banter opportunities.

Is this problem something Bioware is actually looking to patch?  I know that there were some banter bugs in previous game (although nothing of this magnitude nor apparently so widespread) that were never officially corrected.  Outside of Alllan's generous use of his personal time to have a look at the savegames, has there been any sort of official response that they will try to fix the situation?

I saw that and got mad. Then I went and crouched in a corner hoping to forget about all of this.

Yeah ... and I am starting to get paranoid. If music and party banter scripts fail to trigger, what else ?Am I missing quests ? War table ops ? Regular companion dialogue ? It's driving me nuts.

On my second playthrough. Getting load more party banter than I did the first time. Doing Crestwood atm, and going from the village to where you meet Hawke I had 3 pieces of dialogue between Cole and Cassandra.

I agree this ruins the game... and I hope they're busy fixing the game and thats why we're getting no response. Probably gonna take forever tho.

That's it. I put the game on hold.

I don't blame you. I am constantly looking at the clock now when I play wondering if they will banter soon or not. And the silence is more noticeable than ever. It just really detracts from everything else. And as the video above proves it's just so damned depressing how much we are missing. That being said, I can't put the game down because it is still a good game and once at Skyhold there are companion interactions etc that at least make me feel loved.

So I tried it - turned off all the account settings, my antivirus, cleared my codex and journal.

I loaded up the exact same Exalted Plains save from the other day and I got 3 banters in 10 minutes, whereas before I didn't get them there at all. So that was surprising.

No music whatsoever though.

I think with everyone's varying results all we can really say is that whatever is causing this...is very complex.  <_<

Same. I'm furious that this bug even got through in the first place, but it's just IMPOSSIBLE to play it like this.

Well, I've said it before but it bares repeating.  If there is an option to buy another copy of the game that would guarantee I wouldn't get this particular bug then it would be worth the cost to me.  However that doesn't seem to be an option.  If it's affecting those with physical copies on PC and Xbox 1 as well as those who are playing the game digitally (as I am on PC).  I'd just be throwing good money after bad.  Do we know of any platform that isn't subject to the banter bug?

So we are actively missing on precisely 171.92 minutes of banter dialogue. Good job everyone.

Almost three hours of dialogues lost in the fade. This is just... I don't even know what to say.

Newest round of testing: All online settings are disabled, I loaded my second character, who just arrived in the Hinterlands. The save started in camp, I didn't fast-travel or rest. Then I clicked on every codex and journal entry.

While playing I ran around in circles, collected iron and elfroot, fought enemies when the respawned.

Shortly after the start I got a banter between Varric and Solas, unfortunately I didn't check my watch.

20:23 Banter Solas - Cass

20:24 Cass comments on the environement

20:25 music

20:28 music

20:31 music

20:34 music

20:36 music

20:36 Banter Varric - Solas

20:38 Solas comments after a fight

20:39 music

20:42 music

20:44 music

20:48 music

20:49 Banter Varric - Solas - Cass

So the music starts approximately every three minutes, the banter every 13? Is that how it should be? There still isn't any combat music, should there be any? Has it been confirmed? There weren't many combat comments, but more than I had before.
