Yeah, it's definitely just 'perception' when we have people in this thread who have 60 hour games with no banter... :/
And when they haven't even told us what 'normal' is it doesn't make our 'perception' of the issue any clearer. *deep breaths everyone*

Mark Darrah: Note that it is possible to consume all of the banter available to a follower given your place in the story. Still investigating.
It's a sad day when Ubisoft is better at fixing bugs than Bioware.

Yeah we definitely consumed three hours of dialogue in, like, 10 instances of banter. At best. Stop making fun of us.

I'm not sure how it's possible to have consumed all of the banter when two followers have literally never spoken a word to eachother in 60 hours. I feel like they're underestimating the scope of the problem. (Not to mention the lack of music, that's pretty easy to percieve)

Yeah when this bug is the first result for this game on google as well as half their fan sub-reddit you would think they would stop burying their head in the sand about this.

I’m sure there is something to be said about perception, but obviously there’s an actual underlying problem here.

It might be best to keep a watch and a pen at hand while playing and to write down every banter and music cue. That should help with the "perception" part.

okay.
having mentioned the journal thing, i just did a bit of investigation with about 45 minutes of gameplay. i loaded up my 4+ hour save in the hinterlands, with a male qunari mage inquisitor and cassandra/solas/varric as the team, and i'm listing my events.
2:45 - Hinterlands loaded, checked the journal. Music played.
2:50 - Banter between Cassandra and Varric, I think. Not sure if it is plot related: "This place is too dangerous for refugees." "This is their home, Seeker."
2:53 - Solas mentions an elven artifact while doing his Measuring the Veil quest -- I only put it here because I've never heard him say that during the quest before, though I've heard it in other places.
2:54 - Finished Measuring the Veil. It showed as completed. I checked my completed quests in the journal and it showed as completed again when I exited.
2:56 - Had some static / noise stutter in combat.
2:59 - Set up a camp, but I didn't rest afterward.
3:00 - Solas and Cassandra banter.
3:01 - Music plays.
3:02 - Cassandra and Varric banter.
3:04 - Checked the journal again to clear the 'new' notification on collection quests I'd forgotten about. Music played.
3:06 - Finished 'Blood Brothers' quest, which marked as completed. Checked it in the journal, exited, and it was marked as completed again.
3:08 - Solas and Varric banter. Music plays.
3:14 - Music plays.
3:15 - Checked journal. Nothing new or completed inside.
3:19 - Fighting some Templars I got the first combat shouts I can remember -- Varric and Cassandra said "That had to hurt" and "Maker take you" respectively when they killed enemies.
3:21 - Music plays.
3:22 - Another weird static stutter / cut out with the sound.
3:23 - Completed the "Templars to the West" quest, which showed as completed. Checked it in the journal, exited and -- you guessed it -- marked as completed again. Music plays.
3:25 - Music plays.
3:27 - Level up -- not sure if that's important but thought I would add. Cassandra and Varric banter. Music plays.
this corresponds to about once every 10 minutes so...that's the frequency it's supposed to be coming? couldn't really enjoy it because i was too busy desperately hoping it would work. and for me, this is a lot more banter than i usually get. perhaps the fact that the quests keep completing more than once does mean something? if anyone else investigated it would be cool to hear about it ![]()
the developers are now saying we've exhausted the banter? i'm...pretty sure they'd have more than two things to say every five hours even just starting the game? i mean come on -- that up there is more banter than i've had in seven hours playtime before.

Yeah, I'm done with this game for now. I didn't pay full price for a game that bugs out and can't offer me the complete experience. No music and reduced banter is a killer. I just hope they don't take too long fixing it, otherwise I'll probably just forget about it and move onto other games.

Yeah, Mike Darrah's statement was asinine. A majority of my companions have never even acknowledged each others existence over the course of exploring together for 60 hours. I guarantee you I did not exhaust their party banter.
And, like you said, he doesn't even address the systematic music bugs.

If they can't actually fix it, then what else can they possibly say?
They aren't going to make statements about buy our fabulous, character filled world but there's a whatever % chance that it will be a fabulous, mute world. I don't believe that they are ignoring the bug and I don't believe the people who worked so hard making the game want to know that some customers aren't experiencing all their game has to offer.
I do know that I couldn't have exhausted the banter in a party I hadn't taken with me before in six hours in an environment they haven't traveled to previously, when one of them spoke one line to another and nothing else.
I just think that if it is very complex and they can't work out a solution then we will probably hear nothing further about it. It's kind of why I'm holding out hope that we'll hear something, even if it's just 'er, that's not right'. ![]()

Once every 10 minutes on average seems like a not-far-fetched number.
(BTW, if there’s 170 minutes of banter and each lasts about 30 seconds, spread out over 10-minute intervals that’d make a playthrough of 58 hours—plus the quest and Haven/Skyhold content.)

This is what happens when developers rely on third-hand information instead of actually listening to the people who say "we've barely heard any instances of banter during the game."
One of the efficiencies of being a large studio, I expect XD.

That's all I can do for the moment. His phrasing was... not savory. I am kind of concerned. Sigh. We'll see. Keep it coming. I'll make an OP update in a bit.
Mark hit me back up just as I was about to submit this post. "We are still investigating." I do so wish we could be trusted with a touch more of a specific statement, obviously, but there are myriad reasons they can't/won't go into details. Honestly, sweeping it all under the rug is only one of many. I have confidence it's truly being investigated, so I hope others here do as well.
I told him I don't mean to come across as angry. It's just that, well, it's fair to say a great many people across the fandom are following this thread for updates, growing more and more disappointed with the bug. Would that twitter had just a smidge more message space, I'd explain that the YouTube video on all the hours of banter coded into the game just has us all feeling crushed, left behind... sad. Feeling sad about this is natural. And my thread is the HQ for that sadness right now. So I just needed him to understand that I'm going to have a sense of obligation here toward keeping tabs on how things are coming along.
That's what I would have said, if the twitter message length would have allowed it. Instead I truncated it but hopefully got the message across to him. I don't envy the developers right now, but my empathy is running on fumes as I look across this thread, into the Origin topic, on to reddit and GameFAQs, and I see this sprouting up for so many fans.
Alright, got that off my chest. I'll be back in a bit. With playtesting data, too.

I sent Mark a trio of tweets emphasizing that while perception is inevitably going to factor, there are people with 80+ hours and 5-6 banters, people with full runs and no banter. Explained to him that there is simply a fear this will not be fixed given how experience-shattering it is for the thousands (probably more) impacted.
That's all I can do for the moment. His phrasing was... not savory. I am kind of concerned. Sigh. We'll see. Keep it coming. I'll make an OP update in a bit.
Thank you for all of your hard work sweetie. Much appreciated!

I've got a 126 hours logged through Origin and although I can't give you the exact number of banters because early on I simply wasn't recording incidents of it, I can say categorically I have never experienced a single instance of interactive banter. That's one fact I can provide, if it helps any.
