Any chance we could combine all the various tips/tricks people have posted in this thread into the original post? It's getting a little difficult to sift through everything!
Cool, so I guess that Varric and Cassandra only have two bits of banter. I guess I just exhausted the only two banters we get.
I guess I've got over 10 banters from Varric and Cassandra only so far, but hey ! It's all about your perception ;-)
Well, I don't want to be whiny etc, but here's my experience up to now (sorry for being a little offtop) :
1) Bought the game ------> 2) After a couple of hours of gameplay : Oh, the game recognizes my character as a woman ------> 3) creating a new character ------->4) Getting sad because of lack of banter and music -------> 5) after going through to skyhold my character....changed his accent to British.... ------> 6)getting to know that it's all happening in my head.

Update:
I loaded my first character (completed mainquest). Checked every entry in the journal and the codex. No banter. Then I also "checked" every item in my inventory. Two minutes later I had the first(!) banter between Iron Bull and Dorian. The music works, too.
So if the journal trick doesn't seem to work, it might help to look through the inventory as well.

Yeah, so we have the:
— Travel + mount/dismount + rest
— Travel directly to correct campsite from Skyhold
— Change party members after traveling to a zone
— Change the dynamic range to/from TV
— Repair installation/reinstall
— Disable Origin In Game/overlay, disable Online
— Clear all stars from your Journal (at least Completed Quests)
Plus obvious ones like:
— Change your party composition occasionally
— Go into a different area
What else?
21:12:00 - Companions swapped to Dorian, Viv & Cole
21:17:15 - Journal, Codex and Items all checked.
21:26:30 - Dialogue between Cole & Viv
21:33:00 - Dialogue between Cole & Viv
21:45:30 APPROXIMATE! - Dialogue between Cole & Viv
I decided to run around and do things for about 20 minutes and then stopped moving again, and then all hell broke loose.
22:03:00 - Dialogue between Cole & Dorian
22:05:00 - Dialogue 2 minutes after between all 3 party members, ridiculous!
22:07:00 - Dorian & Viv dialogue, oh my god something is happening to my game, suddenly everyone is talking with each other!!!
22:13:00 - No dialogue so far. It's just music every 2 minutes or so.
I really can't tell how or why everyone is suddenly talkative with one another but on average the dialogue happened every 20 minutes.
Very interesting. Cannot be a coincidence, surely! I'm excited to test this out in a little while.
Can someone explain what the journal trick is you guys are talking about? I don't think I've noticed any issues with my journal but I definitely have banter issues. Someone needs to tweet Darrah this message board. XD I mean, he's probably a pretty busy guy to say the least but this bug is so maddening. I hear nothing from companions in Val Royeaux and I don't think I've even had one banter from Varric (I've only had 5 total). And man, there's supposed to be interactive banters? Haven't come across one!
go into your journal and make sure you've read every entry under quests, collections, and completed quests. you should probably also make sure you've read everything in your codex and checked all inventory items.
I really wish this journal trick worked for me. Completely cleared out both the journal and the codex, and still nothing. Glad it's working for some of you guys though. @Efvie changing party members after getting to a zone, and traveling directly from skyhold have both had varying degrees of success for me/possibly others if you want to add them to the list.
Tried the journal thing, and I thought I was finally getting music-- Only for it to stop and then get nothing else for an hour. So, it didn't really work for me. Sighs, on how Darrah is answering... It's not exactly giving me hope on this getting fixed any time soon, he sounds slightly condescending, but I'm not to judge much.
Edit; Perception!! We got it all wrong! Someone, quick, fetch the dice, we gotta roll a perception check! 20 gets us the Maker's cry (and perhaps actual news about the matter)
But considering that we fans are probably putting thousands of man hours into trying to fix it and haven't even come close (I've tried everything listed in this thread, as well as troubleshooting the problem myself to no avail), there's not going to be an easy fix.
Well… we’ve spent hours batting at things in the dark without any idea how the system actually works. A bug flipping the banter switch to off, if you will, does not mean that there must be a way to flip it back on for us as players (or even avoiding it in the first place).
For someone who can see the code, it can literally be a matter of changing one single letter. (It won’t be, but…)
…
And I, too, think Mark deserves some slack. I don’t think you should read too much into it.
Go for it anyways. If it doesn't work, the devs have some solid proof. If it works, then that's another idea to toss onto the pile.
Added "No party banter bug" to my stream title. I only use it to show my friend the game, but since there's no banter, it's too boring for her to watch unless I'm at a cutscene. It's there if someone stumbles across it and wants proof. Same name on twitch.
Who else stopped playing until the banter bug is fixed?
Meaning if this problem persist i won't be buying any dlc or whatsoever. cause seriously, this ruined the game for me, specially since characters & characters relations are the most important thing for any novel/show/game i indulge myself in
I hope the good people of bioware aware of how bad this bug is *pun intended*

Please link it. I know this would help the devs if they could see what we're talking about firsthand. ![]()
You’re hoping that they can perceive the bug, hm?
…
Yeah I’m gonna try with my qunari instead of my first character… if I can actually stop refreshing this thread and play.
Tried the clear journal and codex thing in the western approach. Suddenly I had music. Restarted the game, got rid of all online stuff. Spent 30 minutes in the Western Approach killing enemies, nothing.
Went to Emprise du Lion and within the first ten, after closing a fade rift, Cassandra and Vivienne had an exchange that I'm pretty sure belongs at the beginning at the game. About how the Inquisition responded faster to the breach than the chantry. I am about to hit the arbor wilds, so this dialogue should have happened a very long time ago.
Ran around in Emprise a bit more, no music and no banter. I will keep on testing.

I get a banter maybe once every two hours or so, when I'm lucky, so my game probably isn't the best one to be streaming, if someone with no banter at all can stream, that might be better, but until then I definitely notice a crippling silence when I play. Music is random.

Sent Allan a PM with that link so he could see for himself. ![]()
Of course the second I link the stream my companions decide to say something. I knew I was cursed.

You've got larger periods of time recorded, right? You do have some of the hours and hours of silence around, I hope?
