Maybe all the party banter is hidden inside the storage chests?

In other words, we're screwed.
Yeah, now I'm worried. I've ridden my horse perhaps once or twice, and like I said, three party banters (one between Solas and the Inquisitor, one between Varric and Cassandra, and one between Varric and Vivienne) in the thirty or so hours I've wandered about with my companions in various regions. I cannot imagine that is intentional.
We also know that the ambient music is patently broken (a simple trip to Val Royeaux can confirm that). It's possible I suppose that some banter is also being muted? Anyone play with ambient and conversation subtitles on that can say whether they've ever seen subtitles for a conversation they could not hear?

Things were going so civil, but after that official statement from BioWare things are going to hell. Good job! Shame on you

We WANT to know how frequent was the banter between the characters in the saves you tested.

Did the codex/journal trick. Something weird happened, I got a repeat banter from Cass and Varric? What is even going on with this game anymore.
Update: Well, they seem to be talking now. Figures. I'd recommend doing the journal trick for everyone, but as far as I'm concerned this good luck is probably a fluke on my part. Still no music.

I am at @ 75 hours and party banter is very sparse. Great game, but there are some mistakes for sure!
It's too quiet! lol

okay, exactly how much concrete evidence do we need to prove that something is clearly wrong here?
this thread has been up since the 24th? and there are 62 pages and >1500 replies, every single one from a concerned player who is having banter trigger maybe once every two hours, maybe once an hour, maybe not at all. we have talked about every single thing that they just posted here, we have investigated every one and dozens beyond. there is something wrong. it is, unmistakably, there. ambient music is not playing where it should be and people are NOT TALKING. banter is supposed to be spread out through 150 hours, fine -- that doesn't excuse the dozens of reports about maybe 10 instances throughout a hundred hour playthrough. posting 'there is no problem that we can find' is not a solution at all and they may as well have not posted anything.
if they can't help they could at least have posted something about how often it was supposed to occur? rough estimates for those of us who, though the bug apparently isn't a thing, are not hearing a word from anyone? though i suppose now we know this is going to be up to us, again, at least for the foreseeable future.

Hey everyone, please see this post in news and announcements with regards to party banter.
Then explain to me why Cassandra and Varric never talked to each other in the span of 20 hours.

Conal Pierse, on 28 Nov 2014 - 4:16 PM, said:We’ve heard a number of reports from users concerned about party banter not firing in Dragon Age: Inquisition. We have conducted rigorous initial tests, all of which have shown that the system is working as intended. We ran tests over the course of several hours, and compared the captured footage of the playthrough with what the banter the game had recorded as having happened. In all instances, our game records matched the recorded play. The banter also occurred as frequently as intended. We have also similarly investigated save files that were supplied to us by users, and these were likewise found to be working properly. There are, however, instances that can disrupt the frequency of banter, so here are some best practices for ensuring you encounter banter out in the wilds:Switch up party members: There is a limitation on the amount of banter between characters, and it is possible to exhaust it over the course of a playthrough, especially with a static group of followers.
Explore on foot: Banter will not fire while the player is mounted or in combat, so stop to smell the roses (or pick the elfroot) from time to time.
Complete missions and talk to followers: some banter is tied to your progression through the main story (you wouldn’t want Sera spoiling the plot for you, would you?). Playing through the main story and learning more about your companions will unlock more banter.
Visit new places: Similar to party members, it’s possible to exhaust the banter for an area. It’s a great wide world out there, so go exploring.
See previous statement. Folks have gone into new areas, or areas that they haven't fully explored and still run into this.
Turn on subtitles: If you are concerned there might be something wrong with your sound system, turning on subtitles will help you identify if you’re hearing the banter as it occurs.
Please also note that banter does not recycle, so you will only hear a set of lines once. The rate at which it occurs is also random, which is why sometimes you will encounter it more frequently, and sometimes less so.
The banter system is also designed to work over the course of a 150+ hour experience, so don’t be surprised if you don’t encounter everything within the first 60 hours. We wanted to give players plenty of reasons to keep coming back to Dragon Age: Inquisition, and this is one of them.
We will continue to investigate further, as we know that our characters are a much beloved and key component of BioWare games.

Wow. This official response is pathetic. So, no banter for many people for hours is normal and no music for the most part is totally normal too? Feel sorry for the guy who did the music for Val Royeaux lol.
Who the heck is this bald elf in my party? Haven't heard a word outta him.
This is the systems working as intended? Must be my perception then. How do I work on increasing that so I can at least hear the music in Val Royeaux?

I tried the clearing all the journal entries and going completely offline and instead of reliably getting 2 banters within the first 20 minutes of play (after that my party tends to go silent for hours) I now get none. However, I now get music to trigger while exploring, but I still don't get music in Val R. or combat.

I don't think subtitles ate necessary are they? The party members come up and a speech bubble appears next to their name when they speak.

Oh, I forgot, I want to reassure everyone who has this bug, you are NOT missing dialogue. The dialogue is simply not firing. I'm well into the main story, past Haven, and just got a conversation with Varric and Cass, talking about Haven. Three conversations so far, after clearing out the journal.

I think Conal hasn't bothered to read the entire thread. Otherwise, he'd see that his "solutions" have already been tried and done to death. I do appreciate him taking the time to talk to us, but I'm left with the impression that he hasn't even read this thread. Maybe grabbed the highlights from one of the devs, but he certainly did not read what we've done here. That's what makes me irked.
Staying on foot? Most of us avoid our mounts like the plague.
Switching up party members? Yeah, done that.
New areas? I've tried this on brand new characters.
Complete more quests? How much more quests do the people that have played 70-80 hours need to do in order to get even 10 banters??
<thud> I do like that he's trying to help, but I wish he'd read the damned thread first. ![]()

agreed. i've read this entire thread top to bottom -- those were practically the first ideas anyone tried. i know it's a long topic, but even 10 pages of it would have been enough to realize that. it's why we're talking about things like changing the audio and mount/dismount and clearing the journal -- because the simple solutions didn't work at all.
also, the fact that it's a long topic should suggest that, indeed, this is a legitimate problem, and the fact that they can't replicate it doesn't mean that it's not there. the addition of 'we'll keep investigating' at the end rings a little hollow to me. i don't know what kind of reaction they were expecting?

What is going to happen then? They'll just ignore us and hope that we forget about all of this?
Or will they actually bother to read at least 5 pages of this thread? You know, a feedback discussion on their official forum.

I just put this into the other thread:
Not to mention we've tried every single suggestion that he's given and we've even come up with some new ones.
Conal, please take the time to read the thread and not just grab the highlights from other folks. The thread has been largely productive and civil, with little BioWare/EA bashing in sight. We won't bite, but hopefully you can see why we're frustrated by your post. Please, come read the thread instead of offering the most obvious suggestions that folks tried a week ago before this whole thing hit the news.

What a let down and a waste of money. I didn't pay for a broken experience. If they patch it I'll give it another go maybe, but after reading that official announcement it isn't looking too hopeful.
This is pretty much me with this game at the moment:
