I did a quick post on GAF re: the issue - it might not been seen, as threads move pretty quickly. Someone's already shared it on r/dragonage, great job!

can someone with this issue record 4 to 6 hours of no banter and upload that on twitch or maybe stream it on twitch so that they can see that the issue is real or at least tell us that it actually really works as intended??? pls add a describtion of the system/pc that you use...

for me this seems like the only way they would realise that missing banter and ambiand music is actually an issue for us!

unfortunatly i will not be able to do this myself...

Well, there we have it.  There is no problem with the banter and it is working as intended.

Ok, it is what it is.  I'm not sure how that accounts for any of my experiences nor the total lack of anything resembling interactive banter.  If six hours silence in a new area with a new party is their intended experience then I suppose my expectations for the game were unrealistic.  I shall now adjust them to the assumption that my party is intended to speak very infrequently and the PC is not to be included in any of the discussions.

Thanks for looking into the issue.   :)

Hmm, I should read more. I didn't even realize that there was a "banter bug"- I didn't realize that party members were supposed to be speaking at all. I haven't checked how many hours I'm at but I'm level 15 and I've only heard a couple of exchanges between Vivienne and Iron Bull, and thought that they were peculiar to those two and that that was all there was of them. Its really frustrating that these companies don't let the games actually be completed before being released, since they expect us to pay $65 for them.

I am so gutted right now. I had hoped they would be more forthcoming with information and more open to dealing with the situation. How many systems did they test it on for example? A handful of PCs? How common is banter supposed to be for them? Was their music behaving like ours does? If so they really need to alter that because getting three seconds of a song really sucks, especially when the soundtrack is so ****** awesome! I just wish they would talk to us more. These dismissive and patronising tweets and posts are demeaning and depressing.

Game is running at 37% on my system. But I admit, my rig is custom built (by me) and very strong (GTX 790 card, SSD drives, 64RAM, i7, etc, etc). Running on Ultra settings with no issues (besides gameplay issues) except the party banter.

I'm lucky if anyone talks once an hour. It's usually a lot longer. I do get music in VR, though. I've also seen moments where the game sounds quit working. That requires saving and reloading.

Clearly there's an issue with the timing of the banter. And other audio.

Is this an issue for console players too? Cause if it's PC only, don't hold your breath.

I'm kinda with you at this point.  I don't think they've intended to come off as dismissive or patronizing at all.  However, that post by Conal shows that he has not been reading this thread, and as a result, comes off as dismissive of the issue.  That's what bothers me the most.  It's very obvious that Conal did not read this thread at all.   If he had, he wouldn't have been offering suggestions that we've already tried and debunked over the course of this last week.

what irks me is the fact that people are posting 'it's working for me' on the announcement thread.

it's great for them, honestly, but if you're not having the problem and you post that you aren't you're not really contributing to helping the people that have it, and bioware is that much more likely to say 'see it is working correctly'.

or, maybe i'm just a little snappy right now. could be both, honestly.

For those of us on PC, be sure to disable the Origin overlay, I think that's helped mine.

Also nixed a micro-stutter I encountered every so often.

i have to disagree with you, I´m still convinced that this is a bug/glitch and not working for me "as intended" i have no banter in new areas for up to 6 hours or only after i reloaded a save i while exploring the new area... this can´t be what is intended... also if i compare my expirience to the expiriences youtuber share... both are extreamly apart...

odd..  I have had to reinstall the game, and both times I installed it through origin due to my physical discs giving me an error, and origin shows that I had the VO pack installed, but when I go to the DLC folder the VO pack isn't there.

I'm trying to repair the game right now to see if that changes anything.  I might just try installing from the disc again to be honest.

I haven't been keeping up much with the thread, but that didn't seem to do anything (the repair game anyway).  However, I did notice that the Storm Coast is giving me a LOT of banter.  I have Varric, Dorian, and Cassandra in a party right now and I've had three banters in about 15 minutes, which is more than I usually get in hours.

I'm at a loss, because trying the rest at camp, fast travel, mount/dismount thing I'm not sure is actually helping.  Sometimes they start talking more and other times they stay silent.

I would hope not. But yeah, after all of the effort we are putting in here and across several other sites to see such a post... it's really disheartening. I will give them some slack as it's late Friday for them. But really if we don't get some chatty devs at the start of next week actually addressing this issue their so-far-civil fans are going to get much, much angrier. And nobody wants that. We want this fixed and I'm certain they do too. This is their pride and joy they have been working so long on it and have clearly recorded a lot of dialogue for the game, for half of us to not hear it must be a nightmare and such a disappoint for the team. But so far it seems like they think it's a non-issue which is not cool.

Considering that we're playing on all of the different platforms, that would be a neat trick.

Heh, there is no PC Master Race here.  We're all players and all of us that post here are affected.  It's sad to see that it takes something like this to put aside our differences in our preferred platform, but I'm still happy to see it.

If that's the official Bioware stance, I wish they would tell us how the banter system works so we could at least try to figure it out ourselves.

I think this thread has shown that we're diligent enough to at least find the reason behind it, maybe even find a stable workaround, if they would at least push us in the right direction.

What a disappointment. But I still hope they're working on it...One of our fix methods seemed to help me but just for a second.

So been trying the newest thing where we mess with the journal and codex stuff, and for the most part, it seems to be working pretty well.  Had four conversations in an hour (though there was a time before that...still after the codex stuff, that we ran two hours without a banter, so not perfect).

The main reason I'm writing this post though was peculiarity I noticed. In the last half hour (which came after that wonderful hour previous) two of those conversations that we heard recently (both of these between Solas and Varric) just repeated.  I'm not sure what this means, but I thought it might be worth mentioning.  We haven't loaded, haven't done anything particularly weird (well...besides all the weird stuff we're trying to keep the banter coming).  These conversations had to do first with Varric and Solas' presence in Orlais (and the expressions that their presence caused) and after that, about a spoilery event that happened in the dragon age 2 DLC.

Just another audio error to add to the list :)

PC, PS4, XOne, 360, Ps3. This bug is affecting thousands of players amongst all platforms.

This gives me a sad chuckle.  Make sure you put that into the banter thread that Conal started.  He just said that banter isn't supposed to recycle, so you're only supposed to hear a line once per playthrough.

Please also note that banter does not recycle, so you will only hear a set of lines once. The rate at which it occurs is also random, which is why sometimes you will encounter it more frequently, and sometimes less so.

I'm sure it's just perception that Dorian and Bull didn't banter AT ALL during the 60+ hours of gameplay I did, even though I had them in my party constantly. It wasn't until I had completed the game, loaded a pre-ending save and started testing around in the Hissing Wastes that I actually got their infamous banter.

I'm doing a new game now, and.... quiet as always. I've got my party (Iron Bull, Varric, Vivienne) idling in the Hinterlands and so far, nothing. *sigh sigh sigh* Tried clearing the journal, but that hasn't helped much. Am also playing with all the online stuff turned off. Haven't tried the resting/mounting dismounting stuff yet. :|

I kind of feel like Merry trying to convince Treebeard to join the fight. "How can that be your decision!?" We need to head south so Bioware can really see what's going on.

I don't believe that statement. What about the lack of music and combat dialogues?? I never heard the combat banters before I turned off the account settings. Also, why does resting trigger a banter? almost 100% theres a banter right after resting. So there should be somethign that's preventing the sounds from coming out

Figured I am going to spend a lot of time in this thread, so I thought I should get an avatar.

And yes, FFIX is such a charming rpg. Beautiful soundtrack, gourgeous art and well developed characters. I just can't stop praising that game.

To sidetrack a bit, I keep hoping they'll bring FFIX to PC so I can play it again without tracking down a playstation. :)  Still one of my favorite RPGs ever...  I probably should toss in an avatar too huh...been here a bit now.

Has anyone tweeted the writers about it? I'm not on twitter but they've seemed pretty proactive in dealing with issues and it's their hard work we're sadly missing out on.

I have not, but that's because they can't do anything about this at all.  This is purely a programming issue.  The most they could probably say is, "Sorry to hear that, but the developers are testing this.  Stay tuned the forums for an update."
