Has anyone tweeted the writers about it? I'm not on twitter but they've seemed pretty proactive in dealing with issues and it's their hard work we're sadly missing out on.

This might actually be a good idea. I know David Gaider is really active in responding to fan-feedback. If someone could respectfully bring this to a few writers' attention, I bet they would be heartbroken to realize thousands of fans haven't been able to appreciate all their hardwork on ambient dialogue and character development. Honestly, I wouldn't even know Sera was a lesbian if I hadn't already read about her character, because she only mentions it in ambient dialogue, and I haven't gotten any with her.

I have not, but that's because they can't do anything about this at all.  This is purely a programming issue.  The most they could probably say is, "Sorry to hear that, but the developers are testing this.  Stay tuned the forums for an update."

Not hands-on fixing it themselves, I realize, but I would definitely gently nudge my coworkers if I found out a lot of people weren't seeing my hard work ;)

We just have to keep this thread alive (and keep commenting on other boards too). The obvious break for the week-end isn't going to help at all.

I'm sure it's just perception that Dorian and Bull didn't banter AT ALL during the 60+ hours of gameplay I did, even though I had them in my party constantly. It wasn't until I had completed the game, loaded a pre-ending save and started testing around in the Hissing Wastes that I actually got their infamous banter.

I had this exact same problem, no banter from Dorian and Bull at all in a 50+ playthrough. It's what originally made me think that there could be a bug and brought me here, if not for that I probably would have never noticed.

I took Cass, Varric, and Dorian out to Sahrnia last night and they were surprisingly chatty for once! I was getting banters approx. every 8-15 minutes. I'm not exactly sure why banter seems to be working now, at least in this area. I didn't do the resting/mounting trick nor mess with the audio settings. Though I did fast travel back to the camps a lot, so that may have triggered it.

I'll play some more and document exactly what I was doing to see if I can narrow it down.

Do you mean the Forbidden Oasis?  I've been testing areas out for banter, and that one is really good at giving banters.  If you go back to, say, Emerald Graves you will not get the same rate of banter.

What I've gotten from Forbidden Oasis is a pattern like this:

- Nothing for 30 min

- banters start coming and continue for 2 or three times, at 7 - 10 min intervals

- nothing for 45 min

- banter

- nothing for 30 min

- 2 banters at 7 - 10 intervals.

It's still not perfect, but that is a better rate than I get from any other area.

Things like this helps:

Do I have to send you my PS4 so you can try it out and see for yourself that I barely have banter and no music whatsoever? Except I have a European one so it probably wouldn't work at all. I do have several hours of play on my Twitch channel so you can check for yourselves what my game looks and sounds like.

The only times I've had consistent music was during the Haven battle, and another part later on that played the same piece. Everything else is totally silent.

Yeah it looks like the reddit downvote brigade is gutting my thread for the improper use of "denies". Maybe we are just crazy.

Bioware there is a problem 50 hours and 12 banters the banters system is not working. And on my 2nd run just beat the warden base mission only have 3 banters.

Playing this on the X1 might as well just rambo the game cause no one wants to say jack ****.

Redditors can be jerks, so I don't think we're crazy in this sense.  Generally speaking, well...at least I'm medicated.   :P

Also, please read this guys:

To be perfectly clear: as I said, we are still looking into this and conducting further testing.

I am providing you with an update on what we have found so far, as well as some general best practices. This doesn't mean that we are not taking your concerns seriously or that we are not looking into this.

This is an update on what we have found to date on an issue we know is near and dear to our community.

I'm sorry if there was any confusion, but please do not misconstrue my message as a dismissal of what you've been telling us.

If they think it's not a bug then can't they just up the banter rate in a patch?. I am no programmer so idk if that would cause more problems

That latest reply gives me some hope. Here's hoping they can track this tricky bug down.

Perhaps we should start putting together a list of the things we've tried?  I think it would help.    We've done all of his original suggestions.   We're all on different generations of different platforms, so that isn't the issue.

Let's see...the fast travel/camp/mount/rest nonsense.  Changing the audio settings.  Disabling Origin in game.  The journal/codex mouse over.  Waiting for as long as possible to even do the mount quest.  Exploring new areas.  Repairing the game.  Reinstalling.

What else?

I just don't get this sodding game. Why is it that I can go for hours with no banter and then suddenly get three in a row?!

might as well add the changing party members, talking to followers, and turning on subtitles things that were mentioned in the announcement.

I had very little music and banter maybe every 2-3 hours in between and sometimes two in a row just for them to come back with one hours later.

Now I marked all the codex and quests as read per how some have said (as well as disconnected anything online); and I do have a lot more music (not everywhere though) and in 1,5 hours I've gotten 6 or 7 banter oppertunities. I've no idea if this is even relevant but to me that seems like a much more normal amount? They even banter when idle and I've been idle for maybe 20 mins once without a single word before I did this.

Lucky streak maybe, I don't know.

Anyone else miss just being able to zone into an area and get guaranteed banter?  I can't tell you guys how many times I ran in and out of places like the Gallows (or the start of the Dalish camp in Origins) so I could indulge in the banter.

Everyone has to know this problem stretches across all platforms, hence it's not entirely a hardware issue/GPU issue (Nivida & ATI) / CPU issue (Intel & AMD).It could be their servers in how they manages data in short, through saves/progress/auto-saves/decisions/world-states etc

1)Many have pointed out that re-installing has not been very accommodating to resolving the aforementioned banter bug. = Re-installing is not really a solution

2)Many of us triggered the banter bug .. even in the starting area / (first few hours) @ Hinterlands ,That is a problem, which shows the bug is actually triggered, or there's a sequence which would lead to this "banter-slience" as not 100% of the users have this bug..

3)I have seen posts suggesting we might have exhausted all possible dialogue, when there hasn't been actual conversations , puzzles me..how can anyone agree with that POV? Did they not scroll through 60 pages of responses?

4)Everyone has to know, Bioware - EA , that there's a chance, they will ignore this issue despite their official stances, as the production cycle for Inquisition has ended.

5) i would like to suggest more posters capture actual footage, if possible..as evidence and to continue to spread the word.

Yes. I sat in Orzammar forever, running back and forth and changing out party members to just listen to them talk. It made them all so real, and hearing Shale and Sten's friendship made me feel guilty if I didn't have them in the party together. Nothing like that with Inquisition. I have no idea how anyone feels about anyone else, aside from Cole and Solas, who I've been lucky enough to hear together.

Maybe they should just patch a watercooler into each camp

Let's just say that getting to know one of my companions was part of what led me to a reroll.  I was locked into a romance with them, and once I got the banter to trigger after a crapload of trail and error (and probably luck,) I noticed very quickly that his views on certain things clashed heavily with my character.  The banter allowed me to get to know him...which made me go and reroll.  He's a friend, but I couldn't do his romance with my dwarven character.

  A water pump.  Let's keep it consistent with the art theme of the game.

A little update: After I turned off the 'web' settings in game and cleared journal+codex, I also have the 'drums' in the background while being in Skyhold.

But the banter issue still exists...

Hi all

Just wanted to share my experieces as well.

I have put about 50 hours in this game and have experienced at maximum of 10 or so banters between Companions.

Companions do not voice dialouge during battle, except when somebody is incapacitated.

I have only experienced 1 interactive conversation with Varric during the prolouge.

Of the Companions there has been sparse to single occasions of banter between:

Sera and Iron Bull

Solas and Cole

Blackwall and Cole

All others are very silent, except for environmental comments.

Background music plays as normal, at least as I have percieved it.

I play on Win 7 64, GTX 690 GPU, i7 3,5 GHz and 16 GB RAM.

I'm right there with you. It's really frustrating because it can really get your hopes up. Honestly, I'd rather be one of the people who's game is completely silent, just so I don't keep thinking it's fixed, only to realize it isn't a few hours later.

So been trying the newest thing where we mess with the journal and codex stuff, and for the most part, it seems to be working pretty well.  Had four conversations in an hour (though there was a time before that...still after the codex stuff, that we ran two hours without a banter, so not perfect).

The main reason I'm writing this post though was peculiarity I noticed. In the last half hour (which came after that wonderful hour previous) two of those conversations that we heard recently (both of these between Solas and Varric) just repeated.  I'm not sure what this means, but I thought it might be worth mentioning.  We haven't loaded, haven't done anything particularly weird (well...besides all the weird stuff we're trying to keep the banter coming).  These conversations had to do first with Varric and Solas' presence in Orlais (and the expressions that their presence caused) and after that, about a spoilery event that happened in the dragon age 2 DLC.

Just another audio error to add to the list :)

Just wanted to add to this,

Let me explain.

When I wrote this, my roommate had been playing for a few hours and I heard the conversation come up where Solas and Varric discuss the disgusted expressions of the Orlesian nobles.  I asked her about it, sure I had heard it recently.  She agreed, and I then asked if she had loaded recently.  She said she hadn't.

Now, I know I won't always remember when I load, but I decided to take her word on it and write up a message about it, especially as the second conversation I mentioned came up for a second time (another one we had also heard recently).  I figured it might be related to the more general bug that we've been discussing.  My roommate thought I was crazy because she just thought it was normal (which might say that this has happened before...she seems to think so, and thought it was just to keep the game from getting more silent than it already is).

Now, just 5 minutes ago (after another half hour of playing) the Orlesian message came up AGAIN.  This time I was watching and I know she hasn't loaded the game.  This isn't some user error, but a definite repetition of dialogue we have already heard, which either means those flags that are supposed to keep dialogues from repeating aren't working on our game, or that something else is going on.

A single banter repeating 3 times isn't exactly what I was hoping for when I wanted more banter (especially since I'm still pretty sure this is supposed to be an early one, and she is 80 hours into the game with these being her favorite characters).

Hope this helps somehow :)

Cheers

I want to reroll so bad, but seeing as how I don't know what I did to cause the bug, I'm just scared that I'll cause it to happen again. I more or less finished the Hinterlands in my current playthrough, and am quite sick of it!

I romanced Fenris in DA2 in my first PT, and not on my second. Hearing his banter with Isabella in my second PT made me jelly and angry! WAS THIS GOING ON BEHIND MY BACK THE WHOLE TIME?! I miss banter. :(
