I'm guessing it's more widespread than is maybe realized-- many people with the bug probably think it's how the game is supposed to be.  A cursory search of reddit/tumblr shows there are quite a few people noticing this issue.

Yeah I have a feeling there are going to be a lot of pissed off players this week once this issue becomes more widely known. To the point where I'd almost suggest Bioware try to patch this ASAP over the other issues with this game. Graphics and gameplay tweaking issues are pretty minor compared to a bug that locks you out of a good chunk of the game's much lauded storytelling

Okay, I decided to experiment after I got to Skyhold.  I went to the Hinterlands, with a party that had never traveled before together: Wall/Bull/Dorian.  Blackwall and Dorian had never interacted before, despite Dorian being in my party for since recruitment and Blackwall being my primary tank since his recruitment.

I started at 9:56pm my time (it's 10:40pm now,) and started at the Upper Lake Camp.  I proceeded on foot until 10:05pm, when Dorian and Blackwall had their first banter together.  I used the quick travel a total of 5 times from 10:07pm to 10:14pm.

At 10:15pm, I started at Redcliffe Village and proceeded to run all the way south to the Forest Camp, on foot.  This took until 10:35pm to do, since I was also gathering metals and herbs along the way.  Killing the occasional Red Templar as well.   Zero banter from anyone.

So, in about 40 minutes, Dorian and Blackwall was the only banter I had.  I think it's bugged.  I haven't tested other zones yet, because seeing that was just too disheartening.

Try four hours of silence from Cass, Dorian, and Cole in the Exalted Plains. One of my favorite areas in the game, and not a peep.

:(

I've played over 50 hours and I've probably only seen 10 banters or so. The ones I've heard have seemed to mainly trigger early after I've entered a new area.

Selfishly I would agree with you, but in all likelihood it's going to take a lot of troubleshooting and testing to get this resolved.  Unless it's something simple like some flag that was accidentally set wrongly - unlikely.  But I agree, this trumps the PC control issues as it cuts across platforms.  And we're much more polite!

I'm glad that this seems to be a bug, but very annoyed that I'm just about to finish my first playthrough, at 90 hours, having heard maybe 6-7 banters (!!) throughout the entire game. :(

I'm playing on PC.

If people can confirm that it seems to be region based that would certainly provide more information.  Seems right now a few people have a gut feeling that that might be the case?

Actually my party is silent everywhere, storm coast included, I wonder if the bug isn't triggered by a dialogue option and your run is f*****d up forever -.-

Wow so it's a bug! I don't know if I should be mad or relieved. I thought they did a terrible job this time around.

Yeah, I thought that maybe there were just fewer instances of banter this time around spread out over a much larger gamespace. Even so, half a dozen instances of banter over a 90 hour playing period is just really bizarre and reeeeeeally lonely. :( Will someone please speak to me!?

Yeah, the problem is you could go thru the game blissfully unaware (and if you hadn't played the other games, you would think this was it)... but then you find out it's a bug and you get pissed for the XX hours you spent on it while not getting the full experience.  As a company, you would almost rather customers remain unaware than this scenario.  And it's usually the most loyal / hardcore folks who find out!!

The worst thing for a business is for customers to feel like they have wasted their time, or upset over the experience, especially after the fact.  If you have a video card glitch, or big issue with PC combat controls, or crashing, once it's patched you feel happy and go your merry way.  With this bug you can never get back the XXX hours you sunk in.  So they definitely need to get in front of this and 1) acknowledge there is an issue (haven't seen any official communication on this front) - heck, they even acknowledged that some players have issues with PC controls and 2) expedite the patch so that additional disgruntled people don't continue to pile up...

So how often is banter supposed to trigger on average? Once/30 min? 10 min? Could someone post a video with the intended level of banter frequency so I can maybe compare?

Yea I thought their design choice was "let's make a Skyrim with a better main storyline", so they cut down the banter stuff.

The party banter is a huge part of the game's soul, I have also experienced some graphics glitches but I didn't care much, the missing party banter is instead something that makes me want to stop playing the game until it isn't fixed  :crying:

I agree. My dialogue wheel keeps calling in sick to work, characters frequently disappear, etc., but I can deal with all that and at least it's a recognizable problem that will inevitably be patched. I didn't even know this was a thing until I stumbled across this thread. A whole playthrough in which my party members just stood around quietly and avoided eye contact... ;(

I love this game, but same here.  I've started with a completely different race/class combination.  I had been playing my dwarven archer, but I'm putting her on hold until this is fixed.   I'm not risking my secondary character, my human warrior, just in case.

In the meantime, I'll see if my elven mage falls prey to the same fate.   I'll let you guys know when she starts hitting the Hinterlands.   If this happens again, I'll just wait until this scripting error is fixed.  It's killing my enjoyment of the game like none of the other bugs have so far, and if I experience this again, I'll set the game down for the time being.  I really...really don't want to, but I might not have a choice.  This is a bug that, in a BioWare game, is pretty game-breaking for me personally.  :(

my first playthrough everyone was totally silent... I thought there was hardly any banter in the game this time but when I started my second playthrough I began to hear it more. Still not in crazy amount but just a bit more

I've started my second playthrough and I'm wondering if I should just shelve it until this is addressed. It's discouraging.  I'll probably bounce around the Hinterlands a bit and see how it goes. Bit reluctant to dump more time into the game if I risk missing out on content like this.

What gender/race/class combination were you playing?  Maybe there is some sort of correlation there somewhere.  I was playing a female dwarven archer.

Also, I'm not even touching a mount until after Skyhold.  I rarely used them anyway and I know my way around better this time.  I'm wondering if using a mount before Skyhold could trigger this as well.   I do recall that I had some banter before I rode my mount for the first time, but very very little after that.  I'll add this to the experiment pile, and try to keep you guys updated.  If I get any results, I'll post both here and in the EA answers section.

Oh man, I thought this was just me. I've played four hours and barely get any banter (on PS4) and sometimes the audio glitches, like sound effects and battle music start late. Don't know if this is a glitch but sometimes the bard sings without an instrumental background or vice versa.

Drat, there goes that theory.  I know this has been happening to male character as well.  Oh well, talk to you guys in a few hours.  I'll be playing and catching up on chores.  I may have been slacking while playing the game.

my 1st was female elf rogue, second - female human mage. Totally hearing it more the second playthrough, though I don't know if it depends on the character you pick. We can just trace a tendency if it's like that for most people here...

female human rogue, but I read of male qunari warriors having the same problem and on every kind of platforms .... dammit, I had just arrived in Skyhold and I was so thrilled, now I just feel I don't want to play a mutilated run anymore  :?

My edition is no deluxe, I have a xbox 360 version on disk
