Hey everyone. I've been lurking in this thread for days. I've tried most of the suggested fixes. I've really only had luck getting the enviromental music to play by adjusting audio settings. I'm still having no combat music or combat banter, and very little exploring banter. I'm 55ish hours in. I've never heard some of the companions speak to each other, even after swapping the party around.

That's interesting, because you actually get grunts and responses to being lit on fire. I don't get even that. There's so many different layers to this. ![]()

Hi, thank you so much for recording evidence! If I might make a suggestion, please consider tweeting this to some of the relevant BioWare devs. No matter what they do they can't seem to replicate our frustrating experience yet even with our afflicted files booted up on their computers. It's like there's a magical ward against it at their offices and at a certain point they'll have to believe we're nuts, the lot of us.

Sigh. It's kind of sad that at this point I just want Bioware to say "hey, we experienced the bug!" I tend to only play one game at a time, and I'm wondering if I should pick up something else. It would be great to know when the next patch is due.. days.. weeks? Even if it doesn't intentionally fix this issue, maybe it incidentally fixes it?
To add some levity for myself I envisioned a Bioware planning document, written by Dilbert's PHB:
1. Pay designers to create a dynamic banter and music system.
2. Pay writers, composers to author lively, funny, dramatic dialog and music.
3. Pay voice actors, musicians, audio engineers to record said dialog and music.
4. Pay programming team A to implement systems as directed by designers.
5. Pay programming team B to completely eliminate any effects of steps 1-4 in final product.
6. Ship game.
7. PROFIT!!
Oh well. These threads are my new mount/dismount/rest where I keep hoping to see something fixed! ![]()

Had a pretty good day, banter-wise.
12:29- load game in Haven.
12:21- Travel to the Hinterlands with Blackwall, Sera and Solas.
12:22- banter between Blackwall and Solas after combat.
12:23- Fast-travel to camp
12:27- ambient music suddenly starts for about 20-30 seconds, stops when enemies are spotted. Combat music doesn't start.
12:28- Solas and Blackwall banter, near the camp with the ruined tower. can hear music. music stops after marking one of the apostate caches.
12:38- Sera comments on environment
12:54- Sera comments on environment again
13:05- Fast-Travel to Crossroads
13:08- Blackwall and Solas banter.
13:29- Fast-Travel to Camp.
14:29- Went to the Storm Coast, switched Blackwall for Iron Bull and Sera for Varric
14:38- Solas and Varric banter near the beach.

I tweeted it to the DA offical. They've been tweeting with me.
Cool. That'll definitely help. Perhaps sending it to @BioMarkDarrah and @AarynFlynn will also help. There is no guarantee they'll have time to look, but higher-ups seeing that we're ready, willing, and able to provide visual proof of our problem isn't gonna hurt.

So I started a new playthrough, on a female human rogue. I must've been messing around in the Hinterlands for about an hour or so and in that time I had six banters trigger. This is more than I have ever had in this area on my main character. On top of that, I was also getting combat music. Not all the time, mind you, but I was hearing it on the West Road, just outside Crossroads.
Can someone who has a fairly early save test whether combat music triggers here for them also? It's where there is a lot of templar-mage fighting.

That`s a "quest" battle music, it will be there until you deal with mages and templars. It goes away after you`ve finished the quest.

Tried out my post-epilogue character. Companions should have plenty to talk, as I completed all companion quests. I was in the hissing wastes for two hours, WALKING through the giant area and I got one banter between Bull and Vivienne about what he should call her.
Again, I am pretty sure this banter is supposed to happen at the beginning of the game (it actually happened at the beginning in my other playthrough). I fast-traveled once, but that was after the banter. I heard a bit of music, but no combat music. Sounds were present, grunting as well, but no reaction to being lit on fire.
I explored a few of the dwarven tombs in the area and got dialogue with Varric, but I think that's supposed to trigger. Can anyone confirm that?
So, updating my computer, fast-travelling, clearing my journal- nothing really helped. And I am pretty sure I haven't walked around with this particular party constellation (Viv, Bull and Varric) in this playthrough.

I made a video with my save, and Teagle's save showcasing the fact that he has Val Royeaux and Skyhold music and I do not. I'll make other videos tonight to document my lack of banter, combat music, combat... grunts, zone music, etc.

I also started a new playthrough and decided that every time I gained a quest I would make it off as 'read' instantly. I found that in the two or so hours I played that eight bits of banter triggered, there also seemed to bit a bit more music but that was probably just because I was near to the templar/mage area and triggering the quest battle music mentioned above.
Hmm, at least I was getting a decent amount of banter, the world was finally starting to become a little less silent. No idea if this will last though...

Yeah, I went to the Hissing Wastes for the first time yesterday and Varric commented there. I explored for two hours as well. No banter.

Could this have something to do with the inner circle quests? Blackwall doesn't talk in the game for me, because I've finished that quest where you find the badge in the Storm Coast, but VIvienne/Cassandra do because I haven't finished their quests yet. And the finished quest aren't logged in my journal until I switch to the respective party member.

Maker's work, this.
Be sure to provide links to various BioWare devs on twitter if you can.

Hey, so this is possibly only tangentially related to the myriad other audio issues we've been encountering, but I'm still wondering if it isn't worth mentioning--has anyone else, on PS3 or otherwise, experienced The Boop? It's happened to me a few times now--while playing the game my speakers issue a, well, a BOOP sound. Super loud, sounds like your standard computery sound glitch (I've gotten that sort of noise from my netbook before when the sound card/drivers went wonky, for example). Never before from the PS3. Scared the hell out of me the first time. Anybody else?

With as many permutations as there appear to be between us, I wouldn't outright say no to the whole damn thing being the product of a mischevious fennec at this point. But I definitely won't label your finding "all-inclusive", because I haven't finished any of them and have had this problem all game. Likewise many others.
Could be related. Somehow. Because. Well. It seems everything is. Haha. Ha. Heh. Ugh.

I've had it where the party will say nothing at all, to one or two things, or they'll just fire off and then nothing for a long time.

I wish I could figure out what's going on. Hours without banter, then Vivienne and Blackwall strike one up out of nowhere, I take a break, then come back and go to Sword Coast with the 'original trio', Cass/Varric/Solas, and two banters in 5 minutes: Cass and Varric, then Cass and Solas.

You know what really annoys me? How they've kept so quiet about how banter is triggered and how the system works exactly. If they just simply told us how it's meant to work then maybe we'd have something a little more tangible to work with.

You and me both, my friend. I kind of predicted the silence though. In this industry, there are reasons for it, unfortunately. Especially right now. This is when sales will be at their greatest. Any programming statement risks being read negatively. As far as the public is concerned the devs probably need to sound like rare issues aside, DAI runs like Antivan silk and every design choice was heralded by Andraste herself.
Of course, I'm aware of the irony. News sites reporting the bug could well diminish sales slightly. Which is the nature of the beast. Puts me in a weird situation, I'll tell you that. BioWare games are just about the only ones I care to play. Even after being bludgeoned by this awful bug I absolutely want them to succeed. Obviously I also want this fixed. But regardless I want more BioWare games and I want the devs to have stable jobs. And yet here my thread remains, linked to by IGN. >_>

I hear you on this. I really do appreciate that this must be a maddeningly complex problem to work on, but in general I feel like a lot of us would feel better and be much more inclined to understanding if we just had a little more, I don't know, PR on this. Or, yes, some/any communication that might allow the community to put our heads together more constructively than the shots in the dark we've been making.
