Are we all playing the Deluxe edition?

Yes. Now I am trying not to blame my unicorn...

Same problem here, happy to see I'm not the only one. I've got the same thing going on where I can quest for hours and barely hear a thing until I'm in a camp or something and idling and they get two in a row. I switch my party quite a bit so that doesn't seem to be it either.

PC, female/human/mage, no deluxe. About 55 hours in.

And here I thought the giant nail protruding from Bog Unicorn's forehead would inspire commentary.

It seems that most, though not all, of us in this thread have noticed this problem in Deluxe. I'm going to try to acquire a regular copy of the game for PC and see if that makes any noticeable difference.

Ok since we are collecting information here...

Male/elf/mage, English, both subtitles on, mistakenly downloaded the English language pack, used mount but not often, 26 hours, <8 banters. I can't think of anything else...

How about disk vs digital copies? Is anyone having this issue with a digital copy?

I have a digital copy. I have the issue. I've tried reinstalling, wandered around on foot with my party for over half an hour, no banters.

I've been playing NON-deluxe, regular version on PS4. I'm 40+ hrs in and I've only heard banter between Varric/Solas in the beginning of the game. Right after I left Hinterlands it stopped completely. I haven't heard a single conversation between anyone else :(

It honestly has ruined this game for me, which is terrible b/c it's otherwise easily my favorite Bioware game. But it just completely takes me out of the RPG experience and I don't know anything about my companions. I'm going to finish this playthrough b/c I'm so far in already, but only for completion's sake. Not going to start anew until this is resolved....

FYI I even tried pretending the reason no1 talks to me is b/c I'm a female Qunari mage...worked for a couple hrs at least :P

I'm not sure the cadence.  I remember waaaaay back in the day just sitting idle with the game on my XB1 sitting idle hearing banter go off as I worked on other stuff.  I loaded up my game now, and in 5 minutes I heard a banter, but then waited another 10-15 with nothing (I did have some combats in there though)

EDIT: I'm about to play now so I'll keep an eye out for it.

None at all? That is rough. I got 1-2 in the Hinterlands, a couple more in Emerald Grove many, many hours later, and another in the Sword Coast. Most of them involved Sera. This was spread out over a 90 hour period.

I thought it was because I didn't have high enough affection with the companions.  I figured that more banter would show up and well, it didn't.  :P

It sounds like I might have done the right thing by hitting the eject button when I did after ~13-14 hours.

Yes, physical copy. Honestly, I thought they just got rid of the banter, but after reading about some other ppl's experiences (which sound amazing) it has ruined the game for me :(

I get a lot of banter but certain characters like Bull are quieter than others.

PS4 no keep import regular old physical FDP no deluxe with a Male Qunari Mage.

Also upgraded my thread in Scuttlebutt no spoilers about banter locations interactivity etc if anyone is interested.

I had one blissful time with Sera/Blackwall/Dorian where I am pretty sure I got like 4 banters in 4 hours...otherwise, it's been so silent here. Very upset to hear that this is a bug. I mean relieved they didn't gut banter? But very upset.

Edit: PC, delux edition, DW lady dwarf, keep import...if you're collecting g data.

I seem to only get banter with Solas in the party, and then only about once an hour or so of play.

I've played for thirty hours and outside of the prologue banters I've gotten one party banter between Sera and Blackwall. I'm just gonna shelf this game until the issue is fixed, very dissapointing.

To be honest, I haven't been giving this much thought until I saw this thread. As many others, I thought this was just how it's supposed to be. I spent my entire day yesterday in the Western Approach, completing pretty much everything in that zone, and I'm almost sure I didn't have a single banter the entire time. That said, most of the time I play with Cassandra, Blackwall, Varric and Vivienne and I'm about 40~ hours in. I don't switch my party a lot. I remember having some amazing banter between Varric and Iron Bull which made me literally laugh out loud. Seems like a real shame if we're missing out on a lot of party banter, it was one of my most favourite things about DA2 after all.

I'm about to start up the game and will be playing for the entire day. I'll be paying much more attention to this now and I'll try to shuffle my party as much as possible to see what happens.

I'm playing on the normal (non-deluxe) PC version; I don't even have the preorder stuff, and I'm having this issue too. After 44 hours played I've gotten maybe 10 banter incidents that weren't quest related.

Hey everyone. I've been sitting in this thread reading everything with this issue driving me mad, and I fixed it for myself, so I have to tell you guys!

I tried reinstalling, nothing. Ran a repair on Origins, loaded the game, just sat in place and waited. Almost immediately, banter! And by "almost immediately" I mean, it happened in less than ten minutes, with another banter less than a minute after. Hopefully this wasn't a fluke, but I'd try repairing your game if you have the issue and see if it helps.

Good luck!

Edit: Turns out it was a fluke. Got three banters after the repair, then nothing for hours. Oh well.

it's amazing: I never realized how important party banter was in DA:O and DA:2 until it was totally missing in this game. I'm not a game developer, but I really wish they kept the "checkpoint" banter system so it was consistent. Or at least some sort of time-based system. I don't understand how it works as it is: maybe if one of the Bioware devs could respond and enlighten us? Also, for ppl who deleted and re-installed it didn't seem to make much of a difference either, and I doubt it's an issue w/ the physical copy.

Is it even practical that this is a fixable issue? It seems way too random for a simple "patch" fix. And even if they could I'm guessing the timeline for a patch like this would be a long time away...

DA is all about character development so this really IS a game-breaking glitch IMO. I couldn't care less if there were occasional graphics issues, the game looks gorgeous anyway, and I can deal with sound cutting out and w/e, but this is just horrid. Any glimmer of hope that this game hasn't been ruined for me would be great...

ran a repair on Origins, to your existing game file? How did you do this: I'll def give it a shot once I get home.

You can right click your game in the Origin launch menu and select "Repair Game." I'll give this a shot and update.
