Are people fast travelling from the war table all the time or only that one time to do the fix?

I travelled from the war table the first time and then I could travel anywhere and get a fairly normal rate of banter (every 10 minutes - though one took about 30 minutes which seems a bit long).

Anyway, I'm off to write a 5k paper on biological anthropology as represented by a certain book. If it's decided that I need to clarify anything with the latest workaround documentation or an urgent new something-or-other occurs, feel free to PM me if it's a big deal! Be back later.

So with the latest fixes (the clearing journal/codex entries, the fast-travel war table fix and putting Origin offline, specifically un-checking "Always Log Me In" under Account), I am now getting banter, reliably, at about 10-20 minutes.  I also heard music in Val R!  Combat music is still sporadic, but it's there!  I heard combat dialogue for the first time ever!  And more frequent environmental music!  I heard Vivenne and Iron Bull banter for the first time ever, and more than once!

It's like a different game, honestly.  One thing I would say about keeping banter up is that I have to super, crazy keep up with the companion dialogue.  Like, I've maxed out everyone's dialogue options early, I go back to Skyhold constantly to chat people up, I do everything to court their approval so they talk to me more, and I'm working hard at doing people's personal quests the moment they come up.  It's kind of exhausting, but since I've been all up in my companion's business, along with the other fixes, I've noticed a lot more banter.

It's kind of annoying though because then when you return you have the war council music just exploring around Skyhold. :/ Better than no banter or music though.

The fast travel from the war table to a zone then vr seems to helped banter a bit for me. I also finally got vr music. It didn't do anything for combat music for me.

"While at a camp, mount/unmount and then rest. When your party wakes up, either idle in place or go about your questing business -- try both and see if one works for you. This method has had an appreciable number of results for many of us whose companions were effectively mutes all game beforehand, but like the rest of our list, it seems to get "clogged up" again fairly quickly. Rinse and repeat if you find success with this. ***"

This suggestion worked for me. I completed the game with 144hrs. But decided to go back to old save and try this. Was in Emerald Graves, PC user. I had Sera, Iron Bull and Solas. did the fix and moved them near a mansion. just left them idle and left game open while I did real life stuff.

In 1 hr, I heard 4 long conversations and 3 one-liners. That is the most I ever had in my normal playthrough.

For me, this bug either happened do to using mounts or resting at camps a lot.

Adding my voice to the choir... this bug was so prevalent I didn't even know there WAS music at VR until I googled about my companions being so quiet. I've been playing for about 50 hours, and had a grand total of... 10 banters? Not including obvious story-triggered ones. That is across several zones, and many different party compositions.

About the latest fix, if I go offline from Origin, will I be able to continue playing the campaign normally? Or will saves be lost after I log back in? Anyway to just skip Origin's cloud?

Thanks

but I don't know if it has something to do with HL with its crazy respawn rate killing banter's triggers.

The vast majority of the (few) banters I have heard in the last two days have been either immediately after exiting combat, or immediately after changing party or resting.

I can confirm for me that taking origin offline has let me hear music I have never heard before.  I started a new game and didn't realize how much I was missing.  The banter seems a little better as well.  I haven't gotten to skyhold yet with this play through, but it seems much better than it was before.  Now if they would fix the damn Directx bug.  I get tired of wondering which cut-scene my game is going to crash on.

Reporting in, after a two-day jaunt with the game, about 12 hours in with a new character started Friday evening:

I'm on Xbox One, Deluxe edition.  Have the Flames gear in my inventory, but have never donned them.

Consistent music for the first 11 hours or so, although it would only loop for 10-20 seconds or so.  Combat music was sporadic.  Got horse, have NOT used it, save for one occasion when I tried the mount/dismount/rest trick in an attempt to re-fire banter.  Unsuccessful.

Have acquired Iron Bull and Blackwall.  Around that time for both of those recruiting requests, banter fell silent.  Using all the tricks in the OP, I was getting banter every 10 minutes or so for the first 10 1/2 hours of my game.  Then at about 10hrs 30 minutes in, banter reduced to a few one-liners from Cassandra, Viviene, and Solas.  I got two one-liners from Cassandra in 20 minutes, on my way to recruting Blackwall.  Cassandra and Varric have never bantered yet, although I've had them in my party quite a bit.  All companions' discussions in Haven are maxed out.

Can confirm that War Table FT does not work from Haven.  Will NOT trigger VR music, and will not re-fire party banter.

After recruiting Blackwall and Iron Bull, I went to the Hinterlands to do some level grinding.  Hinterlands have fallen silent.  In 30 minutes of play, no banter.  Music in 10 second loops.  No combat music after three templar/mage fights, and three Fade Rift closings.  Have Iron Bull, Sera, and Solas.  ZERO banter.

Have stopped at cultists' castle.  Solas did make a one-liner comment about them.  Iron Bull and Sera silent as church mice.

I have ALL workarounds going, as I have since the character was created.

I'm pretty sure I'm done with the game for one month.  Last two weeks of semester (I'm an academic), following by vacation to London for the holidays.  Leaving home in the states and my DAI game behind for some time.  So no game for me.  Fingers crossed that it all gets patched during this next month.  If I get an odd moment to fiddle with my 30-hour Skyhold save and my 12-hour Haven saves, I'll report back, especially about any differences in banter between the Skyhold and Haven saves.

.

To soul-brothers and sisters in The Sceptr'd Isle, Cheers.  Cannot wait to experience a London Christmas.  To everyone else, best wishes.  Let's all keep our hopes up.  I'll lurk in this thread, and will contribute if I have anything potentially valuable to add.

Bioware.... any feedback guys?  This seems to be the key to the puzzle that you were looking for :)

I've personally not had the banter bug, but didn't have VR or Skyhold music after the initial visit there during the story - now I do, so that's awesome as!

Was the combat music for rabdom encounters or boss battles and side quest fights?

Didn't sound like the music I got at the assault of heaven. It was very...drummy.

Bioware should look at the latest workaround involving skyhold and fast traveling directly from the skyhold war table, and hopefully find the core problem and fix all this lack of music/lack of banter/bugged bard sound mess in a patch ASAP.

(skyhold drum music is connected to this mess somehow?)

The game is clearly broken and I'm waiting with playing it further until I know I'm getting the music, correct accent, correct amount of banter and so on. (this is on PC)

Bioware fix the game asap please. It seems like this sound bug affects nearly everyone at some point.

Can we have an official response regarding this latest skyhold workaround/temporary fix?

That would actually make a lot of sense since it isn't a hardware bug and neither a faulty game state in the save games. That leaves the Keep as a possible cause. Running in offline mode disables access to that.

I'm going to give it a try later on.

So I just spend about two hours playing using the War Room fix, this is what I've found so far:

  • Music in Val R
  • Music in most maps when I first enter them.
  • Afterwards I sporadically hear music, but not an entire track
  • No combat music
  • Banter occured 4 times excluding environmental comments.
  • Drums in Skyhold

I romanced Cassandra and when I used the dialogue option which starts a scene, afterwards the drums in Skyhold are gone and so is the music in Val Royeaux and other maps when going there.

I think the last bit hasn't been mentioned yet

So do you HAVE to go to Val Royeaux for this banter fix?

I doubt it. I’m not even sure that the two are strictly related, somebody just noticed a high correlation between the two things.

My banter came back on its own while I still had never heard the music in Val Royeaux, so I don't think the two are necessarily related.

So the key is to travel via war room only?

Fun story, I was testing the Val Royeaux fix (I had already tested while connected and it had worked, but not for banter so I was testing it offline), fast traveled to the Emerald graves, got sidetracked closing a Rift and suddenly, Val Royeaux music starts, out of the blue, without any prompting.

I don't know what to think anymore.

(oh, and no banter for me yet)

People getting 2-3 banters after the Skyhold war room trick are probably just getting lucky. It partially fixed music, although combat is still silent.

From what I understand the problem is leaving the war room "normally". Basically you need to fast travel out of the war room, then you can use the world map to get wherever you want.

My romance scene with Dorian also made me lose all the sound (SFX) temporarily. After I saved & loaded after the scene it worked again.
However no fix worked in my case regarding the no music/silent banter bug.
