No, I get that. What I'm wondering is if maybe the voice choice is tied to this banter problem. Maybe it's just the people who picked an american accent who're experiencing the banter glitch as well. Or maybe not. Just a suggestion, since we haven't tried correlating them before.

The voice change happens when you pick the opposite voice for your race instead of the default one. Your elf had the english as a default voice, but you picked american. If a dwarf had picked the english accent, theirs would have switched back to american.

My human with the default english accent had the banter bug, but his voice didn't switch when customizing the special ally.

Alright, no lead with that then.

Just an update on my own general experiences of recent times.

Playing today in the Emerald Graves I actually heard music and added onto that I also heard combat music, it wasn't a special battle either, so the music definitely exists outside of those situations.

I also got what people may have been referring to when they mention combat dialogue?  I'm paraphrasing, but when finishing a battle it went something along the lines of-

Solas: Cassandra you fight quite well

Cassandra:  I have to, otherwise we'd all be dead.

I also got some music in Val R today, although it just fades out, which I'm guessing is normal.  Not much of an improvement on banter though.

I'm also getting the drums in Skyhold when I fast traveled from Val R to there...although from what I hear that isn't meant to happen?

Can't say what caused the change in my game today, probably just chance...something is definitely off in the audio side of things, one way or the other..

But yeah, it is a fear that they will just close off the issue, especially since Conal's post used phrases such as "working as intended", "The banter also occurred as frequently as intended" and "save files ... likewise found to be working properly."  To be fair, he did follow up with a post to say "we are still looking into this and conducting further testing."  So I would just read it as an unfortunate use of words rather than intention to ignore, but still, those are red flags in my mind.

This is what I meant with their 'bloody awful job' regarding PR.

This is an open and official forum, if there's an apparent issue they'll always tell people they're 'looking into it'. Even if they've known about the issue and already chose not to fix it, they won't officially tell us that. At least not two weeks after release. (not saying this is the case here)

EA (and BioWare) has to learn to be honest with people and tell them what's up, avoiding all the PR speak they currently employ. If I read something like "we're looking into it" I know this statement is a standard reaction coming from the PR guy, not a dev, designed to be as nondescript and meaningless as possible.

Allan's posts are a great example of how to do it properly. But EA is way too afraid to admit a mistake to post things like that in an official statement.

As you said, red flags. But let's see what happens in the next few days.

Yeah. It was probably released together with the game.

If you're on pc you can find it in Origin games> Dragon age inquisition> Update

Probably referring to the patch for PS4 to fix issues with the PS firmware updates.

edit: Ah, apparently there's actually a day-one patch for PC as well. Didn't notice that one.

Well, Allan is at least level 15 and killing dragons on his Twitter. So he's at least playing for extended periods trying to nail it down.

It will be fixed, surely. It's just a matter of when. That's the reason why I've been so upset over it. By the time I noticed it, I wanted it fixed the day before. Sitting at my desk, spamming refresh on the no spoilers section of the forum before the game came out, and now, spamming refresh on these two threads and Twitter. I'm waiting for the same game to come out twice. I'm like a greedy spoiled child on Christmas Eve, and I CAN'T EVEN! :)

The game will be perfection when it is patched. Now, please hurry.

Today I'm going to test a new character without the day one patch and see what happens.

Unfortunately it does not seem to be the problem. Upon further testing the patch does not really effect the music/banter in game. Why I thought it was an improvement is because the character I created without the day 1 patch is the first "testing" character I made, meaning I did not go into any menus, and just rushed through the intro. Actually going into the menus fades the music out, and it does not return during the intro sequence.

Seeing this it seems pretty likely that there is a problem with the transition between the menus and the gmae itself. Leaving the War Room breaks the music the same way entering the menu in the intro does: after a few seconds it slowly fades out and does not return.

Unfortunately I couldn't test the banters: rolling back the saves to a previous patch seems fairly challenging: there's a corruption check for the saves, so just stripping the DLC flags from the file doesn't work.

Well, back to square one... Eh, I'm really getting tired of this.

I have discovered a fix for banter and music (for myself anyway).

By exiting zones from the <-> icons instead of using the world map, I have been able to get music working in Val Royoux and Skyhold.  I have also noticed party banter with much, much more frequency.  Characters that had never even had a single line of party banter before began speaking to each other.

Also, don't back out of the war table.  If you go to the war table use it to travel somewhere.  These two things have greatly improved my gameplay experience on this second go around.  I wish it had been like that from the beginning.

Also as an interesting note: I made a new testing character to see the difference between saves that differ as little as possible, but still one of which has music and the other does not. So after getting control of character I did the following things:

1. Quick Saved, copied the save to a different folder (this one has music)

2. Entered the menu, waited ~10 seconds for the music to fade out

3. Quick Saved, copied the new save to the folder (this one has no music when loaded)

4. Compared the two in a hex editor, and amazingly they have a ~60% difference. Of course because I do not know the save format this does not mean too much, but it's still an interesting thing to consider (the last 2/3 of the save file can be a giant checksum for all I know).

What Skyhold music are you guys referring to? Not the "drums of Skyhold", right? Because that's not meant to play anywhere except the War Table.

Seriously? I get that everywhere. -_-

Okay, here's the thing. I started a new game (third time with my elf as I still wasn't happy with his face even after 17 hours >_>). I have only walked around in the Hinterlands so far, and I actually seem to be getting a normal amount of music and banter.

Music seems to be partly tied to location, at the crossroads I consistently get music, I had music in the "war zone" area while mages and Templars were fighting there that has disappeared now that they're gone, I also seem to be getting music when I go to the Redcliffe farms. Other than that there are shorter snippets that play every now and then.

I've been getting quite a few conversations between Cass and Varric and Solas. Some I've heard before, others I haven't. I haven't counted exactly how often and when they've happened, but it certainly feels like they're talking all the time now, compared to how it was in my previous games.

The interesting part is I haven't done any of the fixes listed. None.

I have not done the camp/mount/rest trick.
I have not cleared my journal of "new quest" tags.
I haven't done the fast travel through war room trick.

In fact, that's the one thing I've deliberately done differently - I have avoided fast travel through the war room altogether, even when first unlocking the Hinterlands. But I've no idea if this has done the trick or if it's been because of the reroll or if I've just been lucky today.

I will continue to stream. Anyone wants to check it out, beware of spoilers. ;)

One more small bit of information: made another quicksave just after that has no music, and compared the 2 no music ones: the saves are shifted by a few bytes, but are more or less the same, even after the point where the music and no music ones differ so drastically. So that probably means that it has an effect on the music issue at least (probably the banter too, since the same fixes seem to effect both), and is not just some checksum or some form of ever changing part of the save file.

Hi, SpiritMuse, and thanks very much for the info.  I had the same experience until about 12 hours into the game, when all banter disappeared, and didn't come back.  Prior to acquiring Blackwall and Iron Bull, I had lots of music and banter--once about every 10 minutes.  Now, in the hinterlands with Iron Bull, Sera, and Solace--nothing.

If you hit on something that's consistent for 20-30+ hours, then great.  We'll have to give your playthrough more time.  And thanks very much for continuing to stream; that will be helpful as we all work on this bug.

I've noticed the same thing! I enter a menu and the music fades out and doesn't return.

Has anyone else noticed the same things?

It would make sense if the music bug was tied to the War Room, since the war drums happening all over Skyhold seems to also cause music to work in other areas. Weird.

There is a "war drum" music/audio that can glitch. It's the background sound for the War Table, but sometimes it gets stuck playing outside the War Table.

What Skyhold music are you guys referring to? Not the "drums of Skyhold", right? Because that's not meant to play anywhere except the War Table.

Yeah, I brought that up earlier. More often than not the game glitches and plays it everywhere, which is irksome to me since I'm flirting with Josie to the rhythm of the war drums but no biggie compared with the rest of our raw deal. :P

The drums all over Skyhold is not a bug. That's how it's supposed to sound there.

You're certainly more optimistic than I am. I can't even play this game anymore it feels so empty. And none of the fixes from other users are working.

Battlefield had the same issue with the Frostbite 3 engine and they never fixed it. So I'm doubting BW will. Why the hell are bugs becoming more and more common in video games?

Okay guys...

Don't know if anyone had this...

Was running around with Sera, Bull and Varric and no music no banter...

But suddenly I get a "Sera Codex updated" message... As if they should have talked about something that gave me codex update about Sera and thats the reason her codex updated? Buuuut there was nothing but the wind...

I think its the Quizinquision somethingys guys fault... He is the one with stupid wind sounds...

Because games nowadays are ridiculously complex pieces of software, especially stuff like DAI. The amount of testing required to even get a game like DAI to the state it is currently in is incredible.

@Battlefield: Are you talking about some missing sounds on certain maps  in MP? Cause that's the only issue I can recall regarding sound. But I've never played SP...

GAF is now full of people discussing how they are enjoying trying different party combos just to hear the banter.

Maybe, one day, we'll be experiencing this too.  :(
