Hey everyone. I've been sitting in this thread reading everything with this issue driving me mad, and I fixed it for myself, so I have to tell you guys!

I tried reinstalling, nothing. Ran a repair on Origins, loaded the game, just sat in place and waited. Almost immediately, banter! And by "almost immediately" I mean, it happened in less than ten minutes, with another banter less than a minute after. Hopefully this wasn't a fluke, but I'd try repairing your game if you have the issue and see if it helps.

Good luck!

Sadly, I've tried repairing earlier tonight after reading this thread.  No go.  On my brand new character, I also just tried sitting in a camp being idle. I went straight from getting dropped to Haven, talked to no one at Haven (just to eliminate the possibility of a companion dialogue option bugging things out,) to talking with the council, to the Crossroads, didn't talk to anyone there either except for Corporate Vale, did the relic quest for the Dalish NPC, then and to Dusklight Camp.  No banter, but I did get into some fighting on the way, so no biggie.

I had a sinking feeling though, so I tried an experiment. For five minutes, at Dusklight, I did absolutely nothing at all.  Then I jogged a few feet, while still in camp and grabbed an herb.  Waited another 6 minutes, and still nothing but silence.  I did notice that on the PC that the game autosaves once a minute, and that the music loops in 5 minutes.   After Allan mentioned that he gets banter after about 5 minutes of being idle.  I'm just about at my wits end, but I'll try another repair I suppose.   :(

If I get banter afterward, I'll let you guys know.  I'm honestly beginning to wonder about that armor and weapon, but I don't think everyone in this thread met the reqs to get that.

Edit: I have not ridden on any mount, but I did equip the Dragon armor and weapon before I was named Inquisitor, and I noticed it was replaced by a generic default one after the scene.  I'll load the earlier saves before I got the weapon and armor, and see if anything changes.

Dragon Age Inquisition: The Silent Adventure

It would be almost too epic if it wasn't so depressing.

Spent 10+ minutes just walking around the Western Approach and Emerald Grove and didn't trigger a single banter. :(

Just repaired, or at least that is what Origin is telling me.  Trying the idle at camp trick with my new Inquisitor.  I'll be right back.

Reporting a "normal" playthrough on PC with Flames of Inquisition pre-order, pre-install. Banter may be averaging every 30 minutes. Hard to say.

Sometimes my party won't stop, especially Solas and Viv (4 banters in a row), and Sera and Blackwall (3 in a row, including a single-word from each. That was the best so far. It might have been in Welsh?)

But sometimes, too, they won't start. After all those banters in a row, they stay silent until I actually change party, and a new conversation begins.

Once, only once so far, Sera started talking to Dorian right after I loaded a map.

60 hrs played, a few new characters created for kicks. I don't know if I could even estimate the average time between banters, since it feels like they are either talking or they aren't. But I have gone hours without banter at a time.

I'm trying to pin down if banter triggers are sometimes in the map at a specific location, such as near a cave entrance, because that's when they seem to start chatting. But I haven't been able to duplicate banter at such locations just by going there. So,unconfirmed.

I'm sorry you guys aren't getting the character interactions. They're all very good, adding depth to their characters, or at least reinforcing them. I can see how they would be boring without that. I mean, Sera... wow. She's a pistol!

Non Deluxe, digital copy.  both my characters are not getting near the amount of banter I hear others are getting, but one is noticably worse than the other.  My male / elf / mage has had less than 5 banters in 10 hours of play, and my female / elf / rogue has had maybe 8-10 in 15 hours.  So to be honest, not a WHOLE lot better.  Of course I'm relying on memory as I haven't been keeping track until I realized this was a bug, but will keep an eye on it.  Will try the repair when I get back tonight.

I've had significantly less banter than previous games. An offhand comment here, a small dialogue there ... maybe once or twice per several hours of gameplay. I just assumed that there was less banter. Didn't think too much about it until now, since the banter I did hear was good.

See: this is why I'm so disappointed by this game. Your playthrough sounds completely different from mine. Sera could be the Archdemon itself and I wouldn't know b/c she doesn't say a word. Maybe everyone in my game is Tranquil? *sigh*

ran a repair on Origins, to your existing game file? How did you do this: I'll def give it a shot once I get home.

I don't understand what I'm supposed to do, explain as if you were talking to a half-witted child plz

Assuming you're running on a PC, right click on your game in your Origins Library. There's an option that says "Repair Game." It takes about 5-10 minutes. I did it, and immediately got three conversations after hours and hours of silent game play (43 hours played so far, I've gotten maybe a dozen banters, not counting the three I got immediately after the repair). However the second I left the area my party went silent again, and hasn't spoken since, despite changing out party members. I wonder if it was just a fluke.

I'm not entirely sure tbh, but I assume logging into Origins account you can right click on your DA:I last save file and there is a "repair" button (idk what that even does). I haven't been able to try yet, but the few ppl that did try it looks like it hasn't done much if anything at all :(

A second thought: maybe it has to do with when we recruited the party members? I recruited everyone pretty much at once. I doubt this made a difference but it seems most everyone has banter in the beginning w/ Solas and then it drops off? idk...I'm grasping at straws now.

Well, I just tried going idle in Dusklight Camp after a repair.  I did so for a 1/2 hour, and did nothing but move my mouse cursor from one side of the screen to the other.  I didn't move.  I watched Solas pace around some and after 8 minutes, he started talking with Cassandra.  I literally spent the next 22 minutes after that with nothing but the sounds of fire and the music occasionally looping.  One banter in a 1/2 an hr.   I made sure that I was still at my desk so I could listen, but I did end up breaking out my biography of Al Jourgersen and was reading.

In about 10 minutes, I'll fire up an old save without equipping the pre-order armor and weapon.  I just...need a bit.

Edit: @DrK My previous character never heard any banter from Solas.  The only one she heard prior to other recruitment was between Varric and Cassandra.

1 banter every 30 minutes sounds AMAZING to me! I haven't heard 1 banter in over 30 hrs....

Thank you. Actually I'm playing it on xbox 360 but I do have an Origin account, sadly I can't find my library in the site, I searched in 'my account' but I can only find my orders and the privacy settings -.-

This isn't a Misery Contest as to who has had it worse, as far I'm concerned.  To one degree or another, we're all been affected by this.  I'm not saying I've had it worse than anyone else, I'm just trying to offer my feedback via testing.

I was being sarcastic. I appreciate the feedback, otherwise I wouldn't be stalking this forum hoping someone finds some miraculous solution lol.

I was wondering if the bug isn't triggered by a very early dialogue option, perhaps the first one? What did you reply to Cassandra when she accused you of being guilty for the explosion? I chose to remain silent ... talking about grasping at straws

Haha oh god, that'd be the craziest, and most meta bug by far in gaming history.

Okay, here's what I'm going to do:

I just deleted and re-created my world state.  I'm going to start another dwarf archer, because that's what I really want to play.  I'm going to use this newly created state as her foundation.  I'm not going to equip the pre-order gear until after I get past the cutscene in Haven.  Then, I'll get to the Hinterlands to go idle and wait.  I'll probably wait to equip that gear until I go idle at my first camp.  Then, if I get banter more frequently, I'll make a save.  Then I'll equip my armor/bow and go from there.

Sorry if I sounded a little snappish there.

I don't think the pre-order gear has anything to do with it, mainly b/c I didn't get the pre-order gear.

Even if it wasn't 1 character specifically (Solas vs. Varric vs. Cass), did everyone experience at least SOME regular banter b/w party members prior to recruiting the other party members? Trying to find a common denominator.

Ha, I chose to remain silent, too! Sheesh, Bioware, I was going for character melodrama, not a bonus gameplay feature!

I went back and briefly experimented again - Dorian/Bull/Sera didn't trigger again in the Hinterlands for ages, but when I went to the Emerald Graves for the very first time, Dorian/Bull started just outside of camp, followed by Dorian/Sera about five minutes later, followed by Dorian/Bull about ten minutes after that - then they stopped bantering. If I'm getting any banter at all in my game, it seems to be triggered by Dorian or Sera. It's interesting that Sera's getting a lot of dialogue in some people's games, but is completely silent in others.

(Thanks for keeping an eye on the thread, Allan!)

Well, if we're collecting info:
PS4, deluxe edition, female human mage, british VA, custom world state
Played for 30 hours.

Banter occurances:
Immediately after meeting Cass and Varric, two instances of banter between them
The Storm Coast: Iron Bull initiates banter with Viv (1 time)
Hinterlands: Iron Bull initiates banter with Sera (1 time)
Exalted Plains: Bull initiates banter with Sera (3 times)

Other than that, no banter no matter the area and who's in the party
