I would agree that Bioware's response to this issue has been good - at least, what I would hope for if I was having the problem.  Allan seemed to put in a lot of extra time investigating it, and even after their initial conclusions they're still looking at it - and apparently planning to do something about it, even if it is working as originally intended.

Yes I would agree with this as well. The follow up responses to the original official statement have been good. What I said is that the original official response (in the News section of the forum) was adding fuel to the fire.

War table trick fixes my music, but still no banter.  :(

Makes me sad. Not even sure if I want to continue playing the game untill it's fixed.

About sound bugs: "yes. This will not be fixed in the FIRST patch, however, as we do not have a reliable repro or a fix."

The drums all over Skyhold is not a bug. That's how it's supposed to sound there.

No, because after a ton of people complained they confirmed that that drum music wasn't meant to be playing.

Good to see lots of things that made it to live.

Well I just had the most amazing session yet!

First, I made sure the VR music played and then I went to Emerald Graves for the first time today (my favourite location so far - just beautiful) and this is what I encountered in 1.5hr-2hrs of play time:

- Combat music. Not all of the time but certainly in most cases.

- COMBAT DIALOGUE FOR THE FIRST TIME!!!! I almost had a heart attack. Thank you, Cole.

- Banter! Six I think. Or maybe seven. All evenly spaced so they felt natural. And it was the first time I heard Cole and Solas together! I had Blackwall with me as well and their three-way banters are so amusing.

- I also noticed a lot more comments on the surroundings. Cole is quite chatty - he has a lot of one-liners!

I'm so happy right now. For the first time it felt like I was experiencing the game as I should have been for the past 40+ hours! I just hope it wasn't a fluke and I go back to an almost-silent game.

I've been watching some videos and man the combat dialogue really adds a lot of spice to things. Even when my party banter is firing fairly regularly the combat dialogue NEVER happens. (Music likes to almost happen though. It'll do the intro then fade out super fast. I like to call them "interludes" as in "what a strange interlude")

There's suppose to be banter during combat, and like special combat music??

I really, really hope that BioWare finds the error and comes up with a patch or something... Or... well... I might have to save up so I can buy a new copy of the game.

Don't do that ;) Buying a new copy won't solve your problems.

Decided to give in and try this latest "fix". As others have said, it fixed the music but nothing else.

Also, I think it should be clarified that it isn't just the banters that have disappeared. When I first started playing the game and was exploring the Hinterlands, Storm Coast, and the Mire, my party was constantly chatty even outside of the banters. They'd have observations about their surroundings/the environment, stray thoughts about what was going on in that area (e.g. the refugees in the Hinterlands), or even say stuff like "Watch your step." when trying to go down the steep side of a mountain. After a certain point all that, along with banter, practically vanished. While exploring the Hissing Wastes for three hours the only thing I got out of my party was Varric saying, "Yep, still sandy."

Goodness. Congrats, Milky! I hope it continues for you!

Anyway, Mark's latest tweet is gonna make it into the next OP update. Is there anything else I should add?

Yeah, I agree with this. People had no right at all getting up in arms about the ME3 ending. That's a design decision and has nothing to do with the gamer.

Except that the ending was objectively bad writing. Bad design decision in some parts, but bad writing for most of it. To go along with the car analogy, the ME3 ending was like a car that has massive understeer.

Sure, it's not an outright flaw but rather a design decision (in this case regarding the chassis) but that doesn't mean you can't complain about it. Cause in the end it is objectively bad design and you sure as hell are allowed to complain about that in a product.

Especially if you don't know what you get. You're usually going on a test drive with a car and if you notice bad design, you get a different model. With a game that is rarely possible. You buy it unseen and have to trust the creator to not have done a crappy job.

More like neither of these companies can handle working with audio in FB3.

Right, the developer of the engine doesn't know how to use it properly. Sounds reasonable. :P

So far we know that music seems missing, banters and combat dialogue as well, music is temporarily fixed by fast travel, and music is fading away in main menu and stays silent. Anything i missed?

After further testing the War Table helped the music ... Somewhat. Sometimes I hear combat music, other times I don't. The music seems like it fades out too fast, but at least it's there. However, even though I thought it fixed my banter at first, it was just a fluke. I got a few banters and then nothing. Still wandering around in silence. I wonder, is there supposed to be banter in dungeons? It seems weird that there wouldn't be but I've never heard any while in a dungeon.

Honestly I hoped this would be fixed in the first patch. Nothing else is more game breaking for me. :/

Today I tried the War Table trick, and it actually worked! I got music, a lot of it, and some banter. I was overjoyed! It stopped working after a while, and then I went to the War Table, fast-travelled again from it, and it worked again. I'm not sure if it's a definite solution, but it's the first thing that's helped. ^^

Out of curiosity, does anyone know how frequent "War Table banter" is supposed to be? At the beginning of the game I'd get a short exchange (along the lines of Advisor X: "Advisor Y, how are your guys?" Advisor Y: "OK") almost every time I visited the WT, but these are no longer appearing (except one or two relevant comments after crit path quests, and one after my character's romance started). I'm not clear on whether these are part of the bug or if I just ran out of them or something, since it is entirely plausible / reasonable that there would be way less of this than party banter.

Because clearly the people over at DICE are the ones who worked on Inquisition. Clearly 10 banters in an entire playthrough, and no music means they're using it properly.

Just like to add my experience... I tried the War Table fix and it fixed music! I tested in VR and other areas! But unfortunately still little to no banter =( I haven't tried combat music or combat banter, I'm trying to avoid combat where I can because I don't want to be over levelled... but i might fight some things and see what happens

When asked about the banter glitch:

yes. This will not be fixed in the FIRST patch, however, as we do not have a reliable repro or a fix.

*sigh*

I’d rather read this as “the first patch to the game is coming out fairly soon”, which is sort of good news in itself. I have no illusions that the fix will be in in a matter of days—I’m just hoping to hear that they’re working on it.

(And maybe, just maybe finding a reliable fix—even if it is ‘if the first time you go to Hinterlands and Y happens, you’re screwed, start over’.)

((Although for me the Journal trick seems to have helped as I mentioned before. I don’t know if it’s fixed but it’s at least doubled the rate I was getting.))

If not quite every time, I’d say more than half the time. BUT I don’t go to the war table very often… I tend to only pop out of a zone once or twice in the middle of it.

Can we please, please drop the ME3 right now? Not another peep about it in this thread.

I get them basically every time I go to the War Table; I actually think I might have missed comments on my romance which is TRAGIC.

"Here's a winner: go into your journal and hover over everything, everywhere, until it no longer has the ticker next to it that designates that it's new. Of tremendous importance here is that many times completed quests have to be hovered over in their section as well. Likely a bug, and it probably causes interference in the system, messing around with other stuff in the process. Now do the same with your inventory and codex... yes, it's annoying. But it seems to clean things up for many players. You might try doing all this while disconnected from all account settings too; in my experience that has helped greatly. Once you're done, save your game, exit to the main menu, and then jump back in. "

This solution worked wonders for me.

Almost immediately after clearing all the little stars from my codex and all areas of the journal, I started hearing party banter. I'm at about 50 hours of gameplay now and I've just started hearing Cassandra and Varric banter for the first time, and I've had them both in my party for most of those 50 hours.

Exiting to main menu and jumping back in wasn't necessary, I just cleared the unread marks and it worked. Annoyingly however within 10 minutes I had a whole gammut of new unread stuff in the journal and codex just from wandering around and questing. Really needs a "mark all as seen" button.

Thanks for the tip.

Just to add to this, it doesn't seem to have fixed the problem completely; just kind of jumpstarts music and dialogue for a while but it seems to glitch itself again within an hour, either because of new unread content in the journal/codex (especially the "completed" section of the journal.) or just because it felt like it. At that point switching the audio settings to TV, exiting the menu and saving settings, waiting a bit, and then resetting it back to whatever (headphones in my case), seems to kick it back into working again for a little while (also clearing the codex/journal again if there are new entries when it stops working.)

Absolutely tedious ad nauseam though.

I doubt going through the Inventory does anything, but whatever floats your boat :) The journal has an obvious connection in that quests are known to be related to at least some triggers—and in a more sophisticated  system, they could be used as a way to track progression through the game. Codex could have similar relations, for example tracking things known about a character. But, then, it’s not impossible that the Inventory has triggers too.
