I tried replaying my character (elven rogue, non-default voice) from my earliest save, which is from right at the start of the prologue. Banter and music worked all through the prologue. I was so happy. Got to the Hinterlands and music still ok, appears then fades out every ten minutes or so, which is probably how it's programmed to go. Banter worked well, for a time. Then it sort of petered out, to the point where it's been half an hour and still no banter.
Hearing neighs sometimes, though I still haven't gotten a mount. Keeping journal, codex, and inventory stars cleared usually as soon as something changes. Resting seems to do nothing, though I haven't tried repeatedly resting until I get the resting music yet. I'll try switching audio settings again, since maybe the reason why banter's disappeared is because I forgot about this particular fix until after I quit for the day.

By the way, do you people also get random not-saves? Sometimes that red circly thing at the lower right suddenly shows up, and supposedly that's for autosaving, right? But I'm not doing anything important when it shows sometimes, and when I check the saves, there's no new autosave. I dunno, maybe I'm grasping at straws, or maybe this is supposed to be a banter indicator? Or am I just ultra paranoid by this point?
U know I was thinking maybe we should do a list what considered to be normal. I can confirm that I have music almost every 2 minutes. If standing still it plays a little bit later. I swear I will clock it later for future reference.
Good idea. I'll start clocking tomorrow as well.
Is this going to get patched? Because this bug really defeats the purpose of the game. Companions and character arcs are BW's biggest draw these days.
There was at least 6 posts in the thread about this but since it have 94 pages so far i don't blame you:).
It is investigated ATM, they cannot reproduce the bug so there will be no fix on the first patch, probably neither on second couse they already working on It.
I personally stopped playing couse its game breaking for me. I have time I can wait, there are other games as well.
Hi Dulon,
That thing with completed quests seeming to "stack" as new despite being, well, complete, is the same for everyone and really perplexing. Finalizing them does seem to help move other things along, such as banter, for many of us. Keep tabs on it from hereon out; it's weird but sometimes effective.
How have things been with your game lately, Jeff? Any luck with the work-arounds?

I wouldn't count the prologue talk as banter since banter is supposed to be random, while all the conversations/comments in the prologue are scripted to appear once you reach a certain point.
I'm probably affected by the bug as well, although the way it works seem to be very irregular. On a few rare occasions I was getting banter every few minutes, but more often I would go for a good while without hearing anything. Similarly to many others, I can't hear the music in Val Royeaux. My game did crash a few times right after character creation, I wonder if it has to do something with this.
From what I've seen, many of you seem to be getting the most chatter on the Storm Coast? That's where the only thing I get are commentaries about a quest or the sea (which I'm guessing is scripted), no actual exchange between the companions at all.
Ok, the war table fix etc did not work for me. Well, the music was fixed, but not the banter.
BUT!
Accessing my Journal and checking off all completed quests/collections/etc, did work. Like a charm. And as other people have said, doing so makes a crapload of 'Quest complete' pop up. This trick worked for *every* one of my saves and in a new game right ater the banter crapped out and before Skyhold. The bug hit again and I got 90 minutes of silence. Checked my journal again, and it was full of 'new' completed quests that I did in that time. Unchecked 'm all, and banter and music was back!
Results:
Maybe it is indeed the fact that the quests don't officially get flagged as complete and the banter doesn't trigger properly because the game assumes the quests to be incomplete of sorts. Seeing as banter is usually directly related to your progress, I could see this happening.
P.S.: Starting a new game today to experience the full glory that is Dragon Age: Inquisition. ![]()
You may have a point Realyn. Would be good to post this on technical problems thread and Dragonage twitter
So, it looks like I'm not going to be able to play DA:I any time soon... they can't even encounter the problem.
So just to clarify: every 2 minutes a 5-10 seconds tune is normal for hinterlands background music?
I have permanent music now. Though, as stated, at a very low volume besides the first little bit. It might as well not be there if you have enviromental sounds at 100%.

I'm 70+ hours in and have very little amount of banters so far (like 10 or so?). Tried all workarounds, advises, etc. and nothing works.
Today I noticed one thing. Sera and Cass never ever talk for me, but today I left them stand for one hour in Hinterlands near the camp. Almost all hour there was complete silence, and then banter starts, but spoke only Sera, while all Cassandra lines was skipped entirely. Very strange conversation it was.
I hope this problem will be fix soon. Banters is fun and important feature, especially in a big game like this.
This problem is probably related to the same bug that makes party members disappear from Skyhold (as in, literally vanish rather than leave because of approval loss), and makes Fade rifts inactive (visually present but impossible to interact with) and makes items disappear from the world until a save is made and reloaded while in visual range of whatever was vanished/inactive/not present.
IE poor optimization leads to memory leaks leads to things not being properly loaded into memory.
I wonder if the developers have been using computers to test the 'missing banter / people / items' problem on machines with 8gb of RAM or less, on-board audio, and leaving their computers running Inquisition for long periods of time.
An example I recently had of banter going missing; Cole, Solas, and Varric in the Lost Temple of Dirthamen.
All three of them had a line or two of reaction dialog.. and NO inter-party banter at all. None, all throughout the entire Temple. Switched out Varric for Blackwall; still nothing. Switched out Cole for Seras; STILL nothing.
It's a memory loading issue. Something is preventing the party banter dialog from being loaded and played.
@Realyn - thx for that info, I have a new game started (PS4) just after the prologue, ready-to-go if there's a patch.
But I might try your method tonite. Did you also disable the online stuff along with clearing codex/journal entries?
Yes, I'm also offline (have been since the fix was first suggested). Offline in the options and Origin itself in offline mode.
This being said, I do run into the bug even on 'fixed' saves every now and again. But reclearing journal and fast traveling between any two zones (and back if needed), fixes it again it seems. A bit of an annoyance, but it's better then nothing I guess. Still hoping for a quick patch of this issue.
What seemed to work for me was starting a new game with a default world save (no Keep save). Being a few hours into the new game and in the Hinterlands, I've now heard about 5-6 conversations between Solas, Varric and Cassandra already that I simply never heard on my previous game.
It's definitely an odd bug that I'm hoping they get sorted out.
