I've started playing as a rogue elven archer.  When I need a break, am I able to start a new game, say as a human mage or warrior, without losing my current progress?  Basically, does the game allow for more than one saved game at a time? For example, in SWTOR, you can have up to 8 or more characters going; in Skyrim, I was able to have 3 different games going; none of which affects the others.  Thanks.

Yes you can, on load screen there is a button "switch character".
