Viv and Sera is my current favorite, particularly when you're romancing Sera.

Sera: Yes! Tell me about how I'm not good enough for her, and how she deserves better, even though she makes me happy and it has ****** all to do with you. Let's hear it!

Inquisitor: Well, that was... oddly romantic.

I love hearing Dorian and Blackwall bicker and be judgemental of each other, It was nice when I was able to jump in at one point.

I'm loving the banter between Cassandra and Sera. Sera also has great banter with Dorian.

Sera seems to have really good banter with almost everyone. For instance, she shows her butt to Vivienne.

Good to see there are romance specific ones as well, I've been waiting for one with Cassandra and haven't come across it yet, given the amount of issues people are having with the party banter though I think I'll probably be waiting for a while. But people are looking into it thankfully.

I'm confused about what you're supposed to be upgrading to hear more banter?

 

I've noticed a severe lack of banter in my game. I've tried several combinations. I would say at best I get one piece of banter an hour, at worst I think I've run around for 4 hours and not heard a thing.  Is there actually a bug with banter not triggering? Cos one of the reviews I read said you could fill a small book with all the banter. I've only heard maybe 5 pages worth of banter.

There was a thread on the lack of party banter so I thought I'd post this to see if it helps. Some info on conversations when you're out in the world and a list of the kind of conversations you might have.

 

Party banter doesn't seem to have triggers, best I can tell it's all random. If you want banter you'll need to pick the right characters for your party and there are locked options that become available if you use your influence points to upgrade conversations about specific subjects at the war table. That allows you to join in to the conversations on PS4 you press R3 when a prompt appears.

 

The following characters are having regular conversations.

 

Cassandra and Blackwall. (Friendly combat related)

 

Cassandra  and Sera. (Joking conflict)

 

Cassandra and Varric. (Love hate/Location specific conversations in the Hinterlands)

 

Cassandra and Cole.(Indifferent)

 

Solas and Sera. (Culture clash/location specific dialogue in the exalted plains)

 

Solas and Cole. (Mindful)

 

Solas and Vivienne (Conflict)

 

Solas and Cassandra. (Reconciliation)

 

Cole and Vivienne. (Conflict) *interactive options*

 

Vivienne and Bull. (Viv Domineering)

 

Vivienne and Varric (Indifferent small talk)

 

Vivienne and Sera (Romance specific content for Sera) *interactive options*

 

Bull and Cassandra. (Joking combat related)

 

Bull and Varric (Indifferent small talk)

 

Dorian and Solas.

 

Dorian and Sera. (Riches to rags meets Rags to Rogue)

 

Dorian and Bull

 

Dorian and Blackwall (Conflict) *interactive options*

 

Sera and Blackwall (Rebellious/Location specific conversations in elven ruins.)

 

Cole has location specific dialogue that he'll spit out in areas of large scale death, destruction and evil

 

Bull has location specific dialogue on the storm coast.

 

Solas has location specific dialogue in exalted plains.

 

Sera has location specific dialogue in emerald graves.

 

You might have to think a little bit about the kind of conversations characters might have between each other before hand, if at all. Some of these are hilarious others will put you in a position where you have to pick a side I hope somebody finds this useful anyway if anyone else feels like adding to this please do.

 

 

Edit: Cole + Bull + Cassandra doesn't work well for me as a combination for banter I've noticed.

       

         Varric + Solas + Cassandra is preferable in the hinterlands for conversations.

 

         Obviously taking Elves into either of the dales location yields results.

 

Oh, so you're saying you have to press some button to join in the party banter? :0

Funny enough, that has been my more successful party for banter. In the Storm Coast, 2 Bull/Cass, 1 Bull/Cole and 2 Cole/Cass in like one hour.

I appreciate the tips and I'm sure they'll be of help to others, but trust me, it's a bug we're experiencing. I have had all those perks unlocked for dozens of hours and tried every party combination, testing each one for at least an hour of exploring... and nothing.

Cool to know for when it gets fixed though.

 

Any idea what's causing this bug? My first playthrough was barren of banter and it was really disappointing.

Whats the name of the upgrade so I can join in conversations? Also I beat the main storyline so is it too late for me?

Pretty sure there aren't any banter-specific upgrades. You can choose to take history knowledge/arcane knowledge/etc for more conversation options in certain talks, but the interactive banters are still there regardless.

 

And I think the hinterlands might just be a really bad place to get banter. I hadn't gotten any in 10 hours but then I tried going to the storm coast with Solas/Blackwall/Cole and I got tons of banter. Same thing with Solas/Viv/Dorian in the Emerald Graves (which I highly recommend, Team Mage is wonderful).

 

I also got some very specific banter between Blackwall and Solas because I'd brought both of them with me for the Redcliffe mage quest.

The comments/bickering/teasing in DAO was gold. It is primordial in making NPCs feel alive, gives the illusion they have a life of their own. Here nothing - my exploration feels so lifeless, so dead... another bug among the many other annoying little bugs that plague the product.

 

The music is lacking as well for me. It is rare that a track kicks in when I explore.

I have had some banter, but not as much as I hoped. I need to experience more but I only just reached Skyhold. I can say that Sera and Vivienne don't seem to get along well. There was some "biting" commentary back & forth between the 2 of them. I was like "ouch." Vivienne is sort of a b****, but the kind you can like I suppose. Lol.

 

It seems, a lot of companions like to tease Cassandra, which is fun.

The best combo I've found for banter is Bull/Blackwall/Sera. Iron Bull and Blackwall develop a bromance they talk about fighting and compare kills,battle tactics etc. Iron Bull and Sera are like a weird brother/sister thing they joke around, chat about women and come up with really random ideas on fighting. Blackwall and Sera have a Father/Daughter thing going on. He's one of the most tolerant in banter of her antics and gives her some good advice. One i got today was so sweet while Sera was talking about how she admires Josephine and the way she manipulates nobles she then makes a plan

Sera: I'll seduce some ****** right and take him to bed
Blackwall: And?
Sera: And just before anything happens I'll him i prefer his wife!
Blackwall: What message does that give?
Sera: It shows i am in control
Blackwall: How does it prove that you are in control?
Sera: Well after I'll punch him so he gets the message
Blackwall: Oh Sera.....I do love you.

Thanks for the suggestions, some players are experiencing a bug that limits the conversations guys and Bioware are looking in to it. So if you aren't experiencing anything there is a thread in the feedback area dedicated to the issue you may want to add some specifics about your experience it may help with a solution.

I get some banter but i never get to join in... I think the devs have mentioned before that we should be able to interact with the banter.. unfortunately this has happened to me only once during the prologue...

 

 

48 hours in and still no chance to butt in their conversations..
