hasnt science already proven aliens exist? The biological microbes on that asteroid from awhile ago. Its not Civilization levels of complexity, but its definitely alien.

I'm not sure science would be able to prove such a thing. I mean... we can discover an alien race? But that's not science, that's just discovery. I didn't read the article, but it seems like a silly thing to propose - there is no theory of action that can prove aliens life exists outside of finding alien life.

That being said, it would depend on the context. If we found life existed on a planet thousands of life years away that we have no hope of ever communicating with easily, let alone traveling to, I think it would be a minimal impact. If the aliens showed up planning to murder and enslave our planet, I think that would be a significant impact. Anything in between would be a case-by-case situation.

Truly, what matters is that we become a decent space faring race. Then we can worry about aliens.

Nope. If we do actually find alien life, I'm sure it would shake things up, but many people (religious types) would still just deny it despite irrefutable evidence.

OMFG I met one of those........... Don't ever start a conversation with someone who thinks the Moon landing an 911 were fake..... Just don't. It was one of those moments I wanted to curl up into a ball and die.
